Hello I will be 50 tomorrow and my middle son is saying they should all stay off school to spend the day with me and husband. I have 3 children all at the same secondary school year 7/11/13. My eldest doesn’t want to miss school and my youngest has just started secondary school . Problem is my son in year 7 and 11 and 1 day off together last week as we’re not well and have had 3 days off this school year so far . What would you do? My middle son is very emotional and says I am only 50 once. Any advice thank you

Can you imagine the call to school? ‘Hi, it’s my birthday so the dc won’t be in today?’

Happy birthday for tomorrow. Are you doing anything special?

murasaki · 14/11/2022 12:58

I think.my mum went to work on her 50th, my youngest sister certainly went to school! Nice try, kiddo.

Your son in year 11 just wants the day off.

Send them all to school.

megletthesecond · 14/11/2022 12:58

Of course not.

Presumably anyone that did this would say their child was ill, wouldn’t they?

bengalcat · 14/11/2022 12:59

No . Just tell him you an DH will be having a birthday shag - blink and you’ll miss him going out of the door

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 14/11/2022 12:59

It wouldn't have even crossed my mind. Of course not! After school celebrations are the thing.

TitInATrance · 14/11/2022 12:59

No. You’re only 50 once but it’s just a number, and it lasts all year.

If you give way they’ll want a day off for every birthday in the family or it’s Not Fair.

Sorry, but 😂😂😂
He's trying to get a day off, send him in.

MN full of misery guts! I will go against the grain and say fuck it - give them all a day off and go and do something fun together. We have done this several times on birthdays and never regret it.

Johnnysgirl · 14/11/2022 13:05

Misery guts? Whatever...

augustusglupe · 14/11/2022 13:09

No. I would never have dreamed of keeping my DD off school for any Birthday.

Westendbuoys · 14/11/2022 13:09

"no, me and your dad have got some special plans tomorrow day time"

The day off doesn’t bother me, but to believe a child saying they want to spend the day with you because ‘you’re only 50 once’ is very silly.

My kids have have a couple of their own birthdays off and a day for a friends wedding, no big deal.

sunlight81 · 14/11/2022 13:16

Send them In - it's your birthday not theirs

10/10 for effort though - nice little con if ever I saw one!!

Natfrances · 14/11/2022 13:16

It's one day. I would :)

Mariposista · 14/11/2022 13:26

No way! Good on your oldest child for saying he wants to go to school.

You can be off work on your birthday as you are an adult and can choose to take AL that day. They haven't earned that right yet.

Celebrate in the evening or at the weekend.

Vegetablesupreme · 14/11/2022 13:28

Is this a wind up?

Nightynightnight · 14/11/2022 13:28

See I'd be inclined to say yes! I had a pretty big health scare recently and it's changed my perspective on things like this. I obviously wouldn't allow it to be a regular thing but if my lovely child told me they wanted to spend time with me on my big birthday I'd at least listen to them. I have to say that I'd only do this if they had no major issues at school, weren't behind in anything and had an ordinarily excellent attendance record.

Isthatmcormac · 14/11/2022 13:29

🤣🤣 got to admire his trying to be fair 🤣 send them to school, enjoy your day with DH and go out for a family meal afterwards 🤷🏻‍♀️😊

Hahahahahahaha! How to make your teenagers 🤮🤮🤮🤮 and never ask again. You're a genius!!!

FinallyHere · 14/11/2022 13:31

Yeah. Right

My middle son is very emotional and says I am only 50 once.

Do they play you in other areas, too?

IntrovertedPenguin · 14/11/2022 13:34

No. Just looking for an excuse to stay home. If you allow it your just making a rod for your own jack.

thesugarbumfairy · 14/11/2022 13:35

PMSL. 😂
