Weaning bib. How to stop clothes getting messy?!

Mummydee9263 · 08/11/2022 22:21

Hello, I am weaning my baby and using a silicone bib, problem is the food and drink keeps slipping under his chin and getting through to his clothes at the top. Resulting in change of top and vest every time he eats. Anyone else had this problem and tips to make it less of a workload and mess. Thank you

Bibado bibs.

Accepting that weaning is a messy process.

Bibado bibs!

Another vote for Bibado. One of our top recommendations

If its just round the neck, I find putting a dribble bib under the silicone one and then slightly pulling the dribble bib out at the neck can help.

For full coverage, the bibado bibs are great but do need regular washing.

I also don't bother getting them dressed until after breakfast, do a fairly mess free lunch and a then more messy/sauce based dinner to reduce outfit changes.

Bibados! I have 5 of them and planning to buy more. They are like a coverall/apron type bib that secures onto the tray to create a sort of pouch that catches food on baby's lap. Much less food waste when they can just rummage around in their wee second chance trough. At the end of the meal wipe face and hands, remove bibado and baby is all clean!

Silly billyz towelling front bibs. They're soooo good. I've never had food get on my child's top. Sometimes on his legs if he's eating something very messy and throwing it everywhere but rarely. They just go in the washing machine with everything else.
Much cheaper than bibado and the towel front absorbs water spills so it doesn't run off too.

We used the ikea sleeved bibs. They look like painting tops but are flipping brilliant.
And so cheap!

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 08/11/2022 22:44

Breakfast still in sleepsuit that is stripped off straight afterwards then 4 Bibado bibs that get rotated for lunch and tea over two days. They often do 3 for 2 offers so you pick them up more cheaply.

TroubleOverBridgedWater · 08/11/2022 22:46

Bibado + a Pelican bib!
We still do this for every meal at 2yo.

Parkopedia · 09/11/2022 21:35

Sainsburys do great sleeved bibs. Unlike the bibado they are made of terry towel type material which I find less messy as food clings to them instead of sliding around everywhere. (Much cheaper too!) They wring out under the tap just fine.

SuburbanMummy123 · 09/11/2022 21:38

Bibado, sometimes plus a pelican silicone bib. We had one Bibado and several John Lewis terry fabric ones - the John Lewis ones didn’t last 6 months (mainly due to the velcro) so next time I’ll get another Bibado.

Shouldhavebutdidnt · 09/11/2022 21:41

Another vote for Bibado - been using ours for 3 years now & still doing the job perfectly, have 4 on rotation so always have a clean one & for my older child (almost 4) I’ve just added on an extra length of Velcro. Expensive but worth every penny!

All meals in just a nappy round here

I was going to say something similar 🤣

People must be made of money to have loads of bibado bibs! I second the Sainsburys towelling sleeved ones, they're about £3 each so you can have a few to wash and wear!

Pamparam · 09/11/2022 21:50

Oh and the Velcro does go but I just use a food bag clip 😂

Redwood500 · 10/11/2022 20:56

I use a peg and it works perfectly. Tighten the bib behind the neck and clip a peg on.

Hugasauras · 10/11/2022 22:43

Bibados are good but I found with DD1 that they didn't wash very nicely, and a couple of them got mould spots on. For the price I don't think much of their longevity.

Those Sainsbury ones look great - have just ordered some for DD2 who will be starting weaning next month.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 10/11/2022 22:50

3 x ikea sleeved ones. Bung in the wash if super grubby otherwise just wipe down and hang up. Dry so quickly.

Wish I'd bought for DC1. Game changer

FrightfullyFreezy · 10/11/2022 23:06

I used to strip my dc off for really messy food in the house. Out of the house, or for less sloppy food, I used to buy those big, pull-on Terry towelling bibs from Home Bargains. I wasn't too bothered about stains.

They've gone up to £4.50! Even the humble bib is not safe from inflation

Orangedaisy · 11/11/2022 06:58

Yes we used to do even vaguely meals in just a nappy. But appreciate with heating perhaps on low that’s not all that practical. Also still use a peg to keep a bib/napkin on for my 2 now at 5 and 8!

Orangedaisy · 11/11/2022 06:58

*vaguely messy

surreyisik · 11/11/2022 07:01

Bibado. I bought 2021 clearance ones & used money off voucher as it was my first order. Couldn't be happier
