What’s on your toddlers plate tonight?

Just for fun 😊 thought it might give others some inspiration. I often get stuck for meal ideas - for the whole family, not just DS!

DS has just turned 2 and is having:

  • Leftover chicken from last night
  • sweet potato mash
  • baby corn & broccoli

No competitive toddler under/over eating please 😉😂 bonus points for pictures (obviously I forgot mine 🙄)

2 year old had smoked salmon and veg risotto,
Cucumber, strawberries and cubed cheese
Followed by a yogurt, kiddie puffs and blueberries.

Now eating a crumpet before bed, think we're having a growth spurt hahahaa

Always a struggle trying to get my 4 year old to eat a dinner, so tonight made such a basic meal:
2 hard boiled eggs
Spaghetti hoops
1 slice of toast

He demolished it all except the yolk... Result

Isthatmcormac · 08/11/2022 19:15

Some great ideas, thank you 😊 I also noticed all the salmon!! @PutYourShoesOnWereLate - what are these magical steamed salmon packs that you speak of?! 😯 DH and I both dislike all fish and seafood but I try and give it to DS at least once a week as I know it’s good for him 😬 wrapping up salmon fillets for the oven turns my stomach though 🤣 you’re telling me there’s a ready made version?!

@puppydogg14 I’m glad it’s not just mine that goes through phases like that 🤣 all my friends toddlers are fussy eaters or eat really small meals and are more grazers. Mine would give DH a run for his money some days 😅

16mo had leftover gnocchi with a chorizo/tomato/spinach sauce (fridge raid sauce!)

Yesterday she wolfed it. Today she ate 3 bits of gnocchi

Boxofsockss · 08/11/2022 19:48

Avocado pasta with cheese, sweet corn and green beans! Some for mom too!

JennyForeigner · 08/11/2022 19:51

Butternut squash waffles

We aren't as fancy as this sounds, but were given a waffle iron for last Christmas and have a fussy three year old. Absolutely genius. There is no vegetable you can't waffleize in some form, it becomes hand food and voila! Full tummy toddlers.

We also do a lot of home-made pizza in the bread machine.

mangowithasqueezeoflime · 08/11/2022 19:51

Nuggets, chips, peas and beans

Banana

Yogurt with granola

Caspianberg · 08/11/2022 19:55

Made beef casserole with carrots and creamy mash.
2 year old Ds declared it was ‘disgusting’, so ate a load of baguette with butter, and about 1/8th of a piece of carrot. wonderful

Caspianberg · 08/11/2022 19:57

@JennyForeigner - interesting. Ds used to eat well. But since he’s been ill on and off the last 3 months it’s dire. He likes waffles. Do you just make say mash butternut squash and waffle it?

We have one of these :-)

Our boy twin is a chilled out soul - until the carbs are withheld. I have to sneak potato wedges to the rest of the family or we would all need ear defenders.

Yes, that's right. We found the recipe in a library cookery book but there are other recipes online so it must be a thing. And honestly, they are delicious. Our picky eater (was low weight, slowly improving) gets his with creme fraiche and strawberries and a tiny bit of honey. Guaranteed win.

Mashed butternut squash also makes brilliant pizza instead of tomato sauce. We're all about the butternuts in this house.

wibblewobbleball · 08/11/2022 20:08

Pizza and wedges, and then a yogurt. Didn't even serve a vegetable as it wouldn't get eaten and I couldn't be bothered. She's 2.5.

Isthatmcormac · 08/11/2022 20:08

@JennyForeigner 🤣🤣 a boy after my own heart! Who doesn’t love a carb?!
My DS is all about the cheese - I swear he’d hear a packet opening a mile away 🤣 Or his all time favourite thing - the pomegranate 🙈🤣 or “poppy-gaga” as he calls it. The minute I mention having to go to the shops “NEW POPPY-GAGA!!” 🙈

Tuesday is freezer day so 15 month old had fish goujons, potato waffle and mixed veg.

4 year old had a fishcake and chips with mixed veg

Highfivemum · 08/11/2022 20:11

Fish cake
new potatoes
mixed veg.
then satsuma and banana

WalkingOnSonshine · 08/11/2022 20:12

22 month old DS was at nursery today but still gets a dinner at home.

He had a potato cake with Marmite, half a tin of beans, a scoop of my veggie stir fry, a banana & a slice of malt loaf.

Great idea for a thread, always looking for quick and healthy meals for us!

TheRookie · 08/11/2022 20:17

14 months old had macaroni cheese, and I mashed some cod and broccoli up and mixed it through the sauce for extra protein and vitamins 😅 he then had his sister's leftover roast potatoes and half a pizza pin wheel. We were clearing out the freezer hence every one having a different meal!

TroubleOverBridgedWater · 08/11/2022 22:16

2 year old had chicken nuggets and chips.
A rarity but it was one of those days.

Margo34 · 08/11/2022 22:22

Pasta bolognase, an apple and 3 frubes for my 2y1m old this evening ("Peach Mummy, peeeeeach! Not that peach, thenother peach! Oh and one more. And one more. One moooooore!"

pbdr · 08/11/2022 22:36

13 month old girl.
Rotisserie chicken thigh, roast potato, roast parsnips, roast Brussels sprouts, minuscule amount of gravy drizzled over it from a fork, some peas and some pineapple slices.

Went down well, she always loves a roast dinner. Especially the Brussels sprouts funnily enough! I'll enjoy that while it lasts until she reaches the beige stage.

frillseeking · 08/11/2022 23:06

Chicken goujons (is that just a posh word for nuggets?!), potato rosti and green beans. DD wouldn't touch the green beans but DS loves them so he had her beans and she had his rosti. Watermelon and Peppa pig yoghurts

RedHerring24 · 08/11/2022 23:32

Almost 1 year old had a red thai chicken curry with rice and a side of sweet potato.
Ate the chicken and dipped it in extra sauce. Ate the rice and chucked the sweet potato around until she realised she could use it to mop up the remaining sauce.

She then had some blueberries and soy yogurt.

WalkingOnSonshine · 09/11/2022 20:11

Quick snack plate tonight of pita, hummus, cheese and cucumber.

We went out for lunch at Las Iguanas and really liked their kids menu - lots of different options to pick & mix and option of fruit for pudding. He had a cheese and tomato quesadilla with chips and beans, and then a pot of fruit for pudding.

Cosycover · 09/11/2022 20:14

Well...

Ham
Cheese
Watermelon
Cucumber

He is very fussy 😂
