Fleece sleepsuit and sleep bag

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:18

I think my baby is waking up because he is cold, I have put him in a long sleeved vest, fleece sleepsuit and a 2.5 sleeping bag, is this too much? Scared of over heating

Some of the fleece suits say not for sleeping in
I'd try a long sleeved vest and sleepsuit first. Maybe add a cardigan if it's really cold

Ima90sbaby · 14/10/2022 21:20

Place marking as I believe my DS is waking because he's cold too! Unsure what is "too much" for bed wear.

Regularsizedrudy · 14/10/2022 21:20

What is the temperature of the room?

We’ve had him in cotton sleepsuits for the past couple of nights and he’s been waking up crying and his hands and feet have been cold

What is the temperature of the room?

This?

You can buy 3.5tog sleeping bags which may be a better option than the fleecy sleepsuits.

I think they're hands and feet are often cold and not an indicator of being cold but I'm not 100% sure of this!

It's so hard to know isn't it?!!

modgepodge · 14/10/2022 21:27

It depends how cold the room is. If the heating is on and it’s 20 degrees this is probably too much. If it’s only 16 it’s probably fine.

if he’s waking up cold, add one layer at a time until he’s happy, rather than adding 3 layers at once.

the gro company used to produce a graph/picture chart thing showing suggested clothing for various temperatures. I found my daughter needed one more layer than they suggested, eg if they said just a long sleeve vest, I put her in Long Pjs instead.

NannyR · 14/10/2022 21:28

How old are they and what is the room temperature? I would go for a higher tog sleeping bag rather than using a fleece sleepsuit or use a cellular blanket over the top.

ifoundthebread · 14/10/2022 21:29

I used to put ds in a vest, sleepsuit and sleep sack, a pair of socks on feet before the onesie and a pair of socks on hands (they stay on better than scratch mits) then a knitted cardigan over the sleeping bag.

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:30

its 16 degrees in his room and he has always slept with a long sleeve vest the last couple of weeks. I think I may check on him in half an hour, i can always unzip the sleep suit?

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:30

He’s 10 months

OP posts:
SatinHeart · 14/10/2022 21:34

Past about 6 months I used to just put a blanket over the top of the sleeping bag even though they say don't. My thinking was at least they can kick it off.

Orangesare · 14/10/2022 21:37

I just used the fleece sleep suits. I bought them from next or Morrisons and they didn’t say not for sleeping in. If it was really cold I added a blanket

Alittlelost0 · 14/10/2022 21:38

Babies hands and feet often feel cold when they actually aren't. It's best to test by feeling chest or back, it's to do with circulation I think!
At 10 months I would tuck a cellular blanket over a higher tog sleeping bag rather than the fleece. Just because I think fleece is sweaty rather than unsafe! There's other types of sleeping bag too like with arms! Hopefully you get better rest tonight!

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:40

The one he’s wearing is from sainsburys and it defiantly didn’t say no sleeping on it, I think I’m going to check on him in about an hour as he’s just gone off and if I think he is sweating I will take his sleeping bag off and then can add a cellular blanket without the sleeping bag

My little one is older (22 months) but just in a fleece sleepsuit as he kicks off quilts and hates sleep sacks. Irrelevant though, all I wanted to say is how lucky your little one is that you’re so concerned for their welfare and so attentive and caring (and same goes for all the other mums or clearly very beloved and well cared for little ones on this thread)

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:48

@Hulahulahulahoop thank you, I’m a first time mum and I worry a lot about him, we used to cosleep and he loved being nice and cosy and warm in our bed, he woke up last night and I think he was cold because as soon as we brought him in our bed and he got warm he drifted off which is why I bought the fleece sleepsuit today but now I worry about over heating

Babiesarenotrobots · 14/10/2022 21:48

I didn't think the fleece sleepsuits were for sleeping in either. I know I've woken up a right sweaty mess if I've ever fallen asleep wearing fleece. Tu do a nice 2.5 tog sleepsuit that might be better?
I've got a couple of 3.5 tog sleeping bags and my daughter currently has a long sleeved vest, sleepsuit, 3.5 tog bag, Knitted cellular blanket.
The sleeping bags I have have arms which keeps the heat in. If yours doesn't, it's good to add a knitted cardigan over the bag. Wearing it over the bag keeps the heat in and wool keeps them warm but not sweat like fleece. It's a minefield!!

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 21:56

He has fell asleep with the fleece sleepsuit on and sleeping bag, would you recommend me taking the sleeping bag off and putting a blanket on instead?

OP posts:
Hulahulahulahoop · 14/10/2022 21:59

@Firstbaby1234 we still cosleep too and have just moved to the fleece sleepsuits thanks to the aggressive kicking of quilt (which I definitely want!). Quite a few good suggestions here; I’d just trial a few over a few nights and see how you go. It’s so hard to work out! On a side note, I have a cellular blanket but never really understood that ‘cellular’ meant or why they were so popular?! A 2.5 tog sleepsuit from Tu sounds amazing; I couldn’t find any other then ££ on Mori, hence the next fleece ones DS is currently (happily) in (no vest underneath though; think he would be too hot with that)

FusionChefGeoff · 14/10/2022 21:59

I bought a higher tog sleeping bag

Regularsizedrudy · 14/10/2022 22:00

I think at 16 degrees that will be totally fine. Our room is 20 and we have vest, sleep suit and 1.5 tog bag

Hulahulahulahoop · 14/10/2022 22:00

I’d maybe unzip the sleeping bag gently and see how he goes; but honestly, he will be fine and will let you know if he isn’t at this age. You’re doing beautifully and I hope you get a good sleep too!

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 22:00

Hmm I think from the comments I might go in and take his sleep bag off and just put a blanket over the top? He’s already asleep now so trying to take the fleece sleepsuit off would be a nightmare

Firstbaby1234 · 14/10/2022 22:07

I have just gone in abs felt his chest and he doesn’t feel sweaty or anything, if anything he still feels on the colder side so I’m thinking he may be fine?
