Fleece sleepsuit and sleep bag

I think my baby is waking up because he is cold, I have put him in a long sleeved vest, fleece sleepsuit and a 2.5 sleeping bag, is this too much? Scared of over heating

My kids are older but I was always told layers were the best. Babygro, sheet, blanket and a light baby eiderdown which i dont think they sell anymore. The babygros had a little piece that folded down over their hands.

I use fleece sleep suits when it is very cold (not yet!), but with merino wool underneath.

Right now my 5 month old and 2.5 year old are both wearing a wool vest and wool sleepsuit. 5mo is in a 1.5tog sleeping bag on top, and 2yo has blankets around him but doesn't like covers and won't keep a bag on. I'd guess it is colder than 16 degrees in their rooms but can't be sure (I prefer to use my judgment than stress over them wearing exactly the "correct" clothing for that particular degree)

I had a similar issue. First my room was too warm and then it remained at 17-18 during the colder months. Little one would often wake crying. He began to settle once he had more layers and a duvet. I found the days he would cry his hands and feet would be very cold and once I got the layers right his hands and feet would be nice and warm to touch. It is so hard getting it right though. Best of luck.

www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/glowinthedark-space-dog-print-2-5-tog-sleep-snuggler-e7922.html. we had one of these. Our box room in our old rented house got down to about 10° one winter. I layered dd2 in a long sleeve vest, socks, sleepsuit, a 3.5tog fleece sleeping bag with arms (Vertbeaudet, they make stuff for French Alps winters I think!) and a blanket on her. This sleep snuggler was great though, especially when she started moving a lot as she got less tangled.

It depends how cold the room is. If the heating is on and it’s 20 degrees this is probably too much. If it’s only 16 it’s probably fine.

if he’s waking up cold, add one layer at a time until he’s happy, rather than adding 3 layers at once.

the gro company used to produce a graph/picture chart thing showing suggested clothing for various temperatures. I found my daughter needed one more layer than they suggested, eg if they said just a long sleeve vest, I put her in Long Pjs instead.

Same

@Firstbaby1234 we still cosleep too and have just moved to the fleece sleepsuits thanks to the aggressive kicking of quilt (which I definitely want!). Quite a few good suggestions here; I’d just trial a few over a few nights and see how you go. It’s so hard to work out! On a side note, I have a cellular blanket but never really understood that ‘cellular’ meant or why they were so popular?! A 2.5 tog sleepsuit from Tu sounds amazing; I couldn’t find any other then ££ on Mori, hence the next fleece ones DS is currently (happily) in (no vest underneath though; think he would be too hot with that)

Cellular just means there's some holes in it. That way, if baby were to kick it over their face, they'd still be able to breathe.

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 16/10/2022 21:41

You can get sleep suits with arms. My baby was in a 2.5 tog sleep suit (armless) with vest and baby grow. I've since switched her to a 2.5 tog with arms and she feels so much warmer. They also do 3.5 tog ones. The arms in mine have poppers. They were very expensive but worth it, from jojo mamas.

I used to but fleece PJ's or sleepsuits on mine when they were about your babies age not when they where tiny though. The sleep sacks in winter are never very thick I found (I know the room had to also be a certain temperature but we had the heating off at night) I found mine always slept well in the fleece sleep suit in winter with the sleep sack and never hot cold or too hot. We sleep in a 10/13tog duvet in winter so no wonder they get cold in the 3.5tog winter sleep sacks

Firstbaby1234 · 17/10/2022 09:09

@SugarNspices yes I found this too! He’s been a perfect temperature and hasn’t been too hot or sweaty at all. He’s been sleeping much better!
