Just that really.

No.

Itsmemaggie · 01/10/2022 20:33

No, it’s not particularly small I have a 15 month gap and would look on enviously at gaps that long.

That said on days you’re actually spending with very young children that far apart in age it probably doesn’t feel quite as decadent as I imagined.

Average age gap

No I don't think so. There's 22 months between mine and I don't consider that small either (I have a friend who has 14 months between her first two)

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2022 20:41

No. I have DC with a 16 month gap, that's small.

bluebellinthewood · 01/10/2022 20:49

My boys are 10 1/2 months apart - that's small!

Betsyboo87 · 01/10/2022 20:58

I’m in a group of 30 ladies who met online with newborns in 2020. One had a second before her first was two. There are now almost weekly pregnancy announcements so which will give a 2-3yr age gap. I’d say under 18 months is a small gap.

Violet1988 · 01/10/2022 21:01

No I wouldn't I would say it's very average. I have 2yr8 months and 2 yr10 month age gaps, other people have told me they think they are small gaps though

VroomVrooom · 01/10/2022 21:01

My cousin had twins before her eldest was 1, so for about a month a year, she has 3 DC the same age.

That is a small age gap.

bumpytrumpy · 01/10/2022 21:07

Nope

My in laws are looking at that kind of gap whilst going on about how small the gap is and pontificating over how they're going to cope.

Meanwhile I have a much smaller gap and they appear to have not noticed / forgotten

ShaunaTheSheep · 01/10/2022 21:09

Small? Absolutely not, and bigger than average I would say.

Beginningless · 01/10/2022 21:15

On the longer side of average I’d say.

VroomVrooom · 01/10/2022 21:22

Wny are you asking @37andfree ?

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 02/10/2022 20:32

Quite average I’d say. Hilarious that some people thinks it’s a ‘big’ gap though, a 2yr 10 month old is still a pretty little person! I’d class 4 years+ as a bigger gap but still totally normal.

Fwiw I have a 2.5yr gap, would have had smaller but miscarriage put an end to that. Unfortunately we can’t all pop them out in the exact month we would like.

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 02/10/2022 20:45

yep average. 2-3 years is bog standard where I am. When I was a kid 2 years was the norm but now it’s closer to 3.

Id say 18 months and lower is small and maybe 5+ is big, with 18-2 and 4-5 the outer edges of the norm.

Vinylloving · 02/10/2022 20:56

No I'd say 2.5 - 3 years is an extremely normal age gap, small for me is 18 months or less

Crappydoo · 01/10/2022 19:22

I had three under three and a half that was interesting! But they are all good friends now at 19, 18 and 16 🤪

I had 5 under 4 for a couple of months. They’re 20, 18, 17 and 16 (twins) now and it’s reasonably ok now 😂

SnorkelingInHawai · 25/04/2023 18:22

My DH is 10.5 months apart from his brother. For 6 weeks a year they are the same age. Now that’s a small age gap!!

2 y 10 m is fairly standard.

StopGrowingPlease · 25/04/2023 18:30

In numbers and in comparison to others, no it’s probably not but I think it really depends on your plans as that would be too small for me. I want to wait until ds starts school before I have another baby as I want them both to have the same opportunities to have me to themselves and go to baby and toddler classes and activities. If I had a baby just before ds turns 3 then I wouldn’t be able to take the new baby to all the classes ds went to and I wouldn’t be able to take ds to all his toddler classes either.

Newnamenewname109870 · 25/04/2023 18:33

I’d say it’s average but on smaller side of average.

Candleabra · 25/04/2023 18:35

Not really. I would class anything under 18 months as small. Though 18 months isn’t that notable. Anything under a year is definitely a small age gap!

weegiemum · 25/04/2023 19:35

Not small.

My dd1 and ds are 24 months apart then dd2 is 22 months after that. 3 under 4 was hard work but I like that they're so close now they're grown up x

StillWantingADog · 25/04/2023 19:36

No, fairly average

my gap was 21 months and almost the smallest among my group of friends

TheOriginalEmu · 26/04/2023 20:03

By the U.K. average it’s on the smaller side. Apparently the current average age gap between siblings in the U.K. is 3years 8 months.
personally I see think of anything under 2 years as small, from 2-5 as average and anything over 5 as decently big.

mine are all close in age, 13m, 10m and then 19m to my twins.

AegonT · 27/04/2023 17:14

I think 2-3 years is very average. By primary school tgey will have a lot in common. 4 years plus get commented on as big and 2 under 2 as small. I have a 6 year gap - easy as only one baby/toddler at once but they don't do a lot together.
