How do you do a full food shop with a newborn? The trolley seats seem so hard/dirty to put them in....

I hate online shopping as 1) everything that arrives is about to expire and 2) I get ridiculous substitutions or things not being available that change the meal plan.

With DC1 I'd use the baby seat trollies and put a blanket down first.

With DC2 I had a cloth wrap which was great for shopping. She slept through most shops

Use the car seat trolley so the baby doesn't touch the trolley. Or put a muslin in the seat before you put the baby in.

Once they graduate to the sitting up seat rather than the reclining baby seat, it becomes much harder to keep them from touching any grimy surface, edge, nook and cranny. At that point, I would wipe the seat/handle/edges down with a baby wipe and/or alcohol sanitiser.

I think you’ve been unlucky that’s not my experience at all. Maybe it’s your local store.

@Mamabear04

So my meal plan goes something like this

Jacket potatoes ( 30-40p for 4 !) beans and cheese
Chilli con carne or spag bowl
(One large mince pack I divide into 3 portions and freeze one for next week )
Tacos (2nd portion of mince)
Mac cheese
Omelette
Salmon/chicken breast and veg (what ever is on offer that week - there's always deals
Chicken wraps

I usually get 2 different kind of veg so this week I have broccoli and cauliflower then I have frozen peas, mixed veg and sweetcorn in the freezer and we have veg with every meal or salad
So omelet will have a salad for example

That shop includes a loaf of bread, milk, yoghurts, 2-3 different fruits alternate each week and I use organic milk and eggs only.

Also includes selection of crisps and chocolate For the sweet cupboard

I use Tesco own detergent and fairy fab conditioner

I use Tesco own washing up liquid

That will include shower gel, bleach's sponges but as and when as don't need them weekly

Honestly it's easy when you get used to looking for deals and meal
Planning so you have a varied diet not just junk. I suppose we could be healthier

I've attached my recent orders to show it definitely can be done !

and I've never had bad subs - sometimes I have none. This week they subbed pasta but I buy a lot of Tesco own brand so they subbed to some expensive make

And online you can search for 5days+ shelf life so with a 7 day shop it's totally so able
Sometimes I have to put a meat pack in the freezer if I'm not using it for a few days but that's fine

@SpinningFloppa it's happened pretty much every time I've done it. What I get annoyed about most is when you've planned your meals and then 1 key ingredient isn't available. If I'm in store I can change what I'm doing in the moment.

I also got massively annoyed when they substituted dairy alternatives for dairy.

I used a baby carrier if I absolutely had to go but to be honest I got a home delivery and still do and only physically go to the supermarket to buy odd bits as and when I just didn't put myself thru it - I agree those trolleys are filthy!

It depends where you live, my tescos comes from a dot com centre so a tescos Warehouse not the local supermarket so there are rarely any substitutes anyway it’s easier to nip out and get one missing item than do a whole shop with a newborn?

Online as the expense is worth the effort saved/time gained for us.

Thick folded blanket in trolley seat.

The trolleys you can strap the car seat on.

For smaller shops use the basket under the pram.

Sling and normal trolley.
