Own up. Who ignores the 48hr rule on D&V?

Seriously we're (me and DH) assume pretty much everyone most of the time ignores the no nursery within 48hrs of the last D&V episode?

The expense alone would make people surely or play dumb?! "Oh they were fine this morning " etc etc.

I don't....I wouldn't wish a sickness bug on my worst enemy! They're awful! We had one not long back and we couldn't go out before then anyway as we just felt so drained and tired long after stopping being sick.

Never. Unless obviously not because of a big but because of eating too much shite at a party or car sickness. It's a rubbish thing to do. We have 4 kids so it has been truly awful at times but its what you do. Not fair on my kids not fair on other families.

Honestly OP you need to think more.

No although our nursery rules changed from 24-48 hours just after my dd started so I nearly did he first time (didn’t realise the 48 hour rule). Never after that.

I don’t ignore it. Norovirus put my otherwise healthy newborn in the hospital hooked up to a drip. It was horrendous.

Rules aren't just for other people.
I respect the health of others so would avoid risking it with selfishness.

Not if it's a D&V bug but my autistic DS has episodes withholding BM when stressed, leading to tummy troubles. If I'm sure the D is linked to that, and there's no vomiting or other symptoms then I have.

You are an arsole if you do...i was a c/minder for 10 years.. D&v bugs go through like wildfire.. it has lead to my setting closing costing everyone more time off work.

This, have some bloody responsibility OP.

People that ignore the 48 hour rule will be the same ones moaning when childcare setting closes for the day because too many staff members are ill.

One of mine vomited profusely in the car. I didn't keep her off for that, but yes to 48 hour rule otherwise.

On the travel sickness, school tried to enforce that tablets must be prescribed. My GP wouldn't write a prescription as it's available OTC. School said she couldn't have them. I ended up saying that I didn't care if she had them, but they really would - 4 vomits on a 1 hour journey and I was allowed to send tablets again for her.... and they didn't make me keep her off.

My DD ate her body weight in chocolate once and vomited before bed. I sent her to school the next day.

I used to ignore for a one off bout of sickness, DS would sometimes be sick without being "ill" iyswim, but not otherwise.

If more people actually thought about others and followed the 48 hr rule there would be less cases about. I think this to

So you do keep them off or you don’t?

It’s selfish and irresponsible.

I've ignored it in the past if I know what's caused it and know it wasn't a bug... for example my DD gets a bad cough in cold weather and sometimes coughs until she is sick. I wouldn't keep her off if that happened the night before school. But for a bug I would, I think you can tell the difference between a virus and a random vomit.

That's horrendous, of course you can't ignore it! How selfish to go around knowingly spreading highly infectious illnesses that are so very unpleasant especially in an environment where it spreads like wildfire, and knowing how upsetting it can be for small children to be that poorly. You post has made me really cross!

My SD always ignores it. Result is she had her DH have never had time off work for a sick DC.

I'm appalled, but what can I do?

I ALWAYS stick to the rule and the dicks that don't SERIOUSLY piss me off. Poor kids.

AFingerofFudge · 19/09/2022 22:29

@JustFrustrated what do you mean by you were vomiting wrong?!

Report
ehb102 · 19/09/2022 22:31

I always followed the rule but it never gave me any great hardship to do so.

Report
iolaus · 19/09/2022 22:34

D&V absolutely keep them off

If it's 'just' vomiting and has a reason (mine used to get car sick on most journeys over 15 minutes till they were about 6 or 7) then no I wouldn't keep them off school the day after

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/09/2022 22:34

Are people ever actually sick from eating too much eg ice cream? When people say this I always assume it is them excusing themselves from the 48 hr rule. But maybe it does happen I’ve just never experienced it

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/09/2022 22:36

Who will provide your childcare if the nursery can't open because too many staff are off sick? The rules are there for a legitimate reason,

I always follow the rule.

  1. because I’m not a dick and don’t want to pass it on.
  2. because I often feel rough the next day.
  3. because I wouldn’t risk going anywhere and it starting up again until I know it’s definitely over.

homarrrer · 19/09/2022 22:44

Yeah, I ignore it.

If they wake up the next day and they feel fine then I send them in!

I have a full time job and I can't be taking days off left, right and centre because they've had the shits, sick, cough, sneezed.

We absolutely don't, but I know people just ignore it. One of the school mums brought a child who had been up during the night (and the previous day) with sickness bug to a party the following day... "hes woke up fine today and he'll be sad if he has to miss out", chorus of mums "oh bring him of hes feeling better" wtf no, do not bring him!!! We have had 3x d and v bugs that my children have picked up from school in the space of 9 months, we all got it every bloody time. One was so bad our daughter ended up in hospital with it. It makes me so mad people do this!!
