Own up. Who ignores the 48hr rule on D&V?

Seriously we're (me and DH) assume pretty much everyone most of the time ignores the no nursery within 48hrs of the last D&V episode?

The expense alone would make people surely or play dumb?! "Oh they were fine this morning " etc etc.

Hedonism · 19/09/2022 21:34

No, I don't ignore it because I'm not a dick.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/09/2022 21:35

I must admit I have bent the rule slightly, as in if the 48 hour would be up before 10am I send them into school (so 46 hours minimum) any time after 10 am they get the whole day off. I don't really think that less than 2 hours under the rule makes that much difference, but have never kept them off for less than 46 hours.

MariosMushroom · 19/09/2022 21:36

I follow it. DC rarely have D&V type bugs, so I'm guessing a lot of the other parents at nursery are also following it.

We never stayed off for a single instance of vomiting (thinking on it I don't think either of my DC have suffered from diarrhoea, weirdly), the one time it was an actual bug I think we went to 36h.

IggysPop · 19/09/2022 21:36

No - never done it. Even when paying through the nose for nursery and taking annual leave to look after the kids back in the day. Proper arsehole move. It’s bad enough spreading within your own household.

PretzelLady · 19/09/2022 21:37

I've never ignored it either. Honestly wouldn't be worth it for me. I'd rather them be at home than go into school and vomit everywhere and be a bit embarrassed and then I'd need to leave work to collect a vomit soaked child and drive them home. No chance.

bellsbuss · 19/09/2022 21:38

I don't ever ignore it , same with chicken pox. My children stay home.

justmewithmylifetoday · 19/09/2022 21:38

Never.

Wish everyone followed it. 48h seems like a long time but it's really not and is necessary to stop the spread of horrible bugs that is pretty nasty for everyone but even more so vunerable adults and children.

JustFrustrated · 19/09/2022 21:38

I did follow it, religiously. Also, for me when I once had a stomach bug as a working adult.

I'm terrified of being sick (not of vomit, or other people's vomit. Just the physical act of being sick) so would inflict it on other people.

In other bizarre and vaguely related information, did you know it's possible to be Sick incorrectly? I did not. I now do.

Turns out , I was vomitting wrong.

alwaystrainers · 19/09/2022 21:38

I've not applied it if a child has coughed/ choked like previous milk example and are not actually poorly. But proper bugs definitely would not ignore. Nor would I think to use it as hours but go by the 2 days off rule - hadn't thought of that loophole which isn't really a loophole. I've just gone "sick Monday and Tuesday, then not sick Wednesday Thursday send back Friday "

Groovee · 19/09/2022 21:39

I worked in a nursery where the owner didn’t enforce the 48 hour rule until the week she had no staff as they were all infected. I had about 3 absences due to parents sending their sick child in. After that she really enforced the rule and still does.

I have been known to say sorry not allowed back until Monday at the gate.

Riverlee · 19/09/2022 21:40

Always adhere to it.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 19/09/2022 21:40

For actual illness i have never ignored it, but for a one off i have, usually as i know what caused the sickness, and if its a one off its unlikely to be a bug

FlounderingFruitcake · 19/09/2022 21:41

I only ignore it when I know for sure it’s non bug related vom like car sickness or eating too much crap and running around like a nutcase at a party. Excluding newborn milky sick, 5YO DD has never had a stomach bug and has been sick 4 times in her life- twice was car sickness, once was from eating an entire large punnet of strawberries whilst we weren’t paying enough attention at a party, and the other she had tonsillitis so was obviously off daycare for that one but not the others.

Moonshine5 · 19/09/2022 21:41

No.

I'm so curious. How are you supposed to be sick? I may be doing it wrong too on the rare occasion it happens to me 🤯

CrabbyCat · 19/09/2022 21:41

I would always follow it for an actual vomiting bug, that's far too much misery to share around. DC3 however has a tendency to vomit when he has a cold with a badly stuffed jo nose, he chokes on the nasal drip (we are on the waiting list to have his adenoids out, it's not the reason for the operation but the consultant thinks it's part of the problems they are causing). If we are sure it's that we'd send him in.

ChilliBandit · 19/09/2022 21:42

We follow it, and I always wait two full days. DC once had a horrible vomiting bug and then didn’t vomit for over 24 hours and I thought great they are on the mend and they then promptly projective vomited around the 40 hour mark. I am guessing quite a few parents at nursery don’t though…

I am interested to know why 2 weeks for swimming though? I’ve only ever done 48 hours for anything.

Hugasauras · 19/09/2022 21:42

No but DD has never had diarrhoea and has only had one vomiting bug (and we kept her off 48 hours as asked). Maybe if I had a child who was prone to runny bums or something and I knew it wasn't a bug but a digestive thing? But we can juggle work around DC being around so it's not a massive deal for us anyway.

Sometimeswinning · 19/09/2022 21:43

Well it depends. Before my son was diagnosed with asthma he was often sick and sent home for 48hrs. It was ridiculous. He wasn't poorly. I started making my own calls as to if I sent him in after being sick.

I know several parents who send their child in through working at a school (children talk) and through my own children's friends (again they talk!) So ime people do ignore it!

Pinkbananas01 · 19/09/2022 21:43

Absolutely not! If you were one of my families youbwoupd be given immediate notice & have no childcare at all for your stupidity & selfishness

Figgygal · 19/09/2022 21:43

Nope as annoying as it can be I never ignored it

UserError012345 · 19/09/2022 21:43

Reverse.

NCFT0922 · 19/09/2022 21:44

I’ve never ignored it.

ProbAmU · 19/09/2022 21:45

No, wouldn't ignore for actual d&v, although like others an isolated vomit for other reasons (car sick etc) then yes I might.
