is it crazy to consider, taking dd to the maldives when she is one?

i think it might be mainly due to the flights, but then again some people take there babies trekkingall over the world.

the island where we would be going has its own doctors and sea plane incase we needed to get a hospital.
hopefully there will be no need for a trip to the hospital though.

I can see dh pov that, we would basically be right on the beach, and if gets too hot we can go inside the villa etc
he thinks apart from getting there, once there its easier than going to any european beach holidays. i am considering it
am i mad?

One of my friend took her ds to Bali when he was quite young.

I reckon you should direct your question at another MNetter - what was her name? Ah yes, Mozhe. Actually, I think she left her DCs at home whilst holidaying in the Carribean.

Mozhe could give you some coping strategies on leaving dcs at home while holidaying.

She did it with her child in SCUBU.

not mad at all. Mad is going from plymouth to london to NY for two days then to San Fran for 10 days then back to NY for 7 days then to london then plymouth with an 18 month old. In economy. thats mad.

PavlovtheCat · 23/01/2008 23:56

Plusses- ds too young to be too mobile so you will be able to chill. It will be lovely to play with him in the sea and on boats ect.
Minuses - bloody long flight. Very, very hot and my dd did not like heat at that age, may be too hot for anything other than dipping him in water for VV brief periods.

slim22 · 24/01/2008 01:35

take a night flight + a spoonful of medised = problem sorted.
We did:dubai/mauritius/carribean/thailand/cambodia/malaysia with DS at 7/13/18/24/30 months.
No problem at all on night flights. Nightmare on day flights.

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 10:08

good point about the night flights, yes i can see that would be easier

only other suggestion is to take a mini kettle for scalding teets/etc... and heating milk + sterilising tablets and a tupperware for overnight sterilisation of everything that goes in her mouth.
Enjoy, it's absolutely gorgeous!

kbaby · 24/01/2008 14:44

We went to las vegas and then on to hawaii with DD when she was 10 months old. It can be done and its actually easier on a long fight when they are fairly immobile. Book a night flight and arrange to have a skycot on the plane. It means you get more leg room and a bed for them to sleep in(lie about her weight if shes too heavy). DD played on the floor at our feet or crawled around the plane.
Take some home food in case she wont eat(we took weetabix) and sterilising bags from mothercare to do bottles etc

Enjoy the holiday

We are going to the Maldives at Easter and ds will be 7 months. The only thing im concerned about is what to do about food? Im still bf but he be on solids then, spose thats when blw comes in handy!

bozza · 24/01/2008 16:21

I never knew you did that kbaby.

peanutbear · 24/01/2008 16:23

I would go with any age child just to go if I had the opportunity its my dream location

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 18:12

we have been twice before, but that was pre dd

do you have to pay extra for sky cots ?

DH and I spent a winter in India, we left when our oldest was just 15 months old. We travelled around south India with him, and went on holiday to Sri Lanka. I have some of my best (and worst) memories from that time.

DO go. It is "only" the Maldives, it will be highly luxurious, and well developed, and not really much to worry about. She will love it.

Hulababy · 24/01/2008 18:23

Not mad at all. I'd do it. You don't need jabs before ggoing AFAIK and it is a safe area, which would be the only things that would particularly put me off taking DD somewhere.
