i think it might be mainly due to the flights, but then again some people take there babies trekkingall over the world.

the island where we would be going has its own doctors and sea plane incase we needed to get a hospital.
hopefully there will be no need for a trip to the hospital though.

I can see dh pov that, we would basically be right on the beach, and if gets too hot we can go inside the villa etc
he thinks apart from getting there, once there its easier than going to any european beach holidays. i am considering it
am i mad?

sky cots dont cost extra, but theres only 1 or two on the flight so ask for it now (you may have to get there early to ask for it.)
night flights a great idea.

oh enjoy. i am

We took our son to: Australia, New Zealand, China, all over the USA and Canada, all over Europe, plus several caribbean islands - all before he was 2 yrs old. It is EASIER now than it will be in a year's time. Flights with babies are never much fun unless you are lucky enough to have a great mobile sleeper, but once you're there, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. DO IT!

We are returning to MALDIVES with DS this time for Christmas/New Year 2008

Last time we went it was January

What time of year are you planning? cos you want to go when Mozzies not there which iirc are July August

RTKangaMummy · 24/01/2008 18:58

Goodness me - go go.....

I took my DD (now 8 months) to Boston, Australia, Norway and France before she was 4 months old and it was fab! I was breastfeeding so that made it much easier.

My cousin has been taking her 2 LO's to the family villa in Kenya since they were 3 months old and had no prob's what-so-ever.

ENJOY

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 19:05

when we go really dpends on dh's work, prob summer though.which i know isn't the ideal tim to go but last time we went in august and only had 1 day of rain, no mozzies but i think the hilton island sprays the whole island to kill the mozzies !

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 19:07

im still bf, with no plans to stop! so that will make the milk easier

RTKangaMummy · 24/01/2008 19:16

BANDOS cos they had kids club and Doctor on island

We were at the start of Round the World trip so flew via Singapore

But this time we are going direct cos we want to spend more time on island

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 19:42

bandos, is that quite close to male ?
last time we went we stayed in dubai for 5 nights on the way, although this time we will go directly there

are you returning to bandos at xmas?
and did you take the seaplane ?

I have been to the Maldives. It is BLOODY LOVELY. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

But there is NO WAY I would go there with a 1yr old. I wouldn't want to leave a 1yr old in a kids club type thing. And all I'd want to do is lie on the (most incredibly stunning) beaches. Which, IME, is a joyless pursuit with a 1yr old. They'd be bored shitless.

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 19:50

what holiday would you take instead nnb?

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 24/01/2008 19:54

TBH, I don't know... we went to Devon when dd1 was 1 (stayed in a cottage). It worked quite well.

I just think beach holiday with baby = stress+zero relaxation.

But that might be because I ADORE beach holidays (ie lazing around reading in the sun). Something I could not do with a 1yr old, even with DP on hand

TellusMater · 24/01/2008 19:58

DD had her first birthday in Mexico (DS was 3). It was a fantastic holiday. Mostly I have to say because we went with my mum and step dad, so had plenty of help, and my children will sleep anywhere, so we could go out in the evening and they would fall asleep in the pushchair and we could have a nice meal in peace.

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 20:02

yeah dd is a great sleeper, sounds great her falling asleep in the push chair

RTKangaMummy · 24/01/2008 20:04

Yes we are going back to Bandos fro Christmas/ new year

It has all been updtated since we were there in 2002

He didn't actually go in kids club but enjoyed the climbing frame and pool etc. {he was 6 years old then}

We went by boat cos it is quite close to MALE

Also it was middle of night {i don't think the sea planes fly in dark do they?}

We walked to our room and could hear the waves gently lapping at beach but couldnbt see them

So we had a deffo brill surprize in morning when we saw the beach

He flew to Canada when he was 12 months old and it was easy on the plane - just get organized

HAVE BABY WILL TRAVEL

DS has been on more planes than trains and buses put together

He still never eats any plane food even if we are flying from Auckland to uk

So if you are BFeeding yopu will be fine

BTW don't go Half board IMHO we go B & B so we can choose anyo of the restaurnats

notnowbernard · 24/01/2008 20:06

Have to say though, if you do go to Maldive am very !

MegaLegs · 24/01/2008 20:11

IIIII wanna go to the Maldiiiiivvesss

prettylovebird · 24/01/2008 20:13

rtk we [dh] are just looking at bandos now, part of thereason we liked the hiltin island was that it had 7 restaurants, so i think we may like bandos, did you think the food was good?

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 24/01/2008 20:17

We went B & B and so we were able to eat in any of the restaurants

The Half board I wouldn't choose

But the other food was good and very relaxed

BUT this was in 2002 and it has changed since then so I can't say what it is like now

Although we are going B & B again

We thought the HB would be too retrictive and also too much pressure of lots of people queing etc.

whereas we had choice and very relaxed

We are soooooooooo excited

The cocktails are sooooooooooo good too

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 20:20

definitely definitely go - much easier to do it with babies than older kids. dd went to South Africa, Zimbabwe, US and Australia plus several trips to Europe in her first two years. the flight to Australia whilst 6 months pg was maybe pushing it a bit but all the other journeys were fine and all the holidays lovely.
