Aptamil Pepti 1 - Help!

Looking for some opinions on Aptamil Pepti 1 - FTM so this is very new territory!

Baby was previously on Hipp Organic 1 but the Health Visitor thought we should trial Pepti to see if it would help DS symptoms. DS (14 weeks) has always had reflux and tends to bring back up some of his feeds. He had also been sounding snuffly like he had a cold, especially during the night which seemed to be formula related.

When we transitioned onto Pepti DS was very upset, it was a total nightmare, but we turned a corner after a couple of days and was much more settled, so decided to press on. We are 2 weeks in and I am finding if I go any longer than 2.5 hours between feeds that DS is inconsolable, he will break his heart crying until we feed him. As the feeds are then too frequent, he tends to bring these back up. This was not the case on Hipp. The Pepti has also made his reflux worse as it is thinner, and the watery spit up smells awful in comparison. He also has terrible gas and loose stools.

Bottom line is HV wants us to press on and if Pepti doesn't suit, said we should see a dietician. Personally, I think her advice is wrong and continuing to feed DS with Pepti is cruel. I just think she is making out of a molehill as DS is clearly not lactose intolerant. DH and I would prefer to move back onto normal formula (possibly Kendamil as we have heard good things for reflux babies). Can we just ignore the HV and follow our instincts? How much harm would it really do to try another formula?

Did you just stop the pepti 1 formula straight away and move onto kendamil? Or did you do this gradually?

Hi! My LO (8 weeks) has been diagnosed with CMPA and reflux, we are on Apatmil Pepti 1 and Omeprazole… Does anybody have any experience of these two together? My LO seems to be having yellow stools, mucus/watery and containing undigested milk since starting the Omeprazole 3 days after starting Apatmil. She appears more unsettled on day 1 of the Omeprazole - does anybody else have any similar experiences? Trying to understand if the Omeprazole is worth it for her. Her reflux symptoms are being a little squirmy after a feed, spitting up (not massive amounts), hiccups, coughing and she is very congested (literally as if she has a cold but she doesn't). She hasn’t been much of a crier with it at all, but she seems to be crying more since giving the Omeprazole. We gave her the first dose of Omeprazole this morning and an hour later she had a small rash on her forehead - the same looking rash she had linked to hers CMPA. Any advice of experiences would be really welcome. 🙏 she seems to be ok on the Aptamil Pepti 1 thus far, but she’s only been on it 5 days - would it be noticeable if she wasn’t suited with it by now? Thank you to anybody who comments!

Hi @Hawaiikawe - how is your LO now? Have you got any further with this? We are trialling Pepti (literally on Day 1 of this) but also have a prescription for Omeprazole (we haven’t used it yet as none of our local pharmacies had the oral suspension in stock so we have had to order it in). We’ve had evenings of inconsolable crying, my LO being upset during and after feeds, wheezing / snotty nose, a rash that worsens during and after feeds and extreme gas (needing to burp him every 2-3 minutes during a feed) leading to a suspected CMPA. Just wondering how you got on as it’s so nerve wracking and exhausting!

Hi!! @Reallystuck Aah I’m so sorry to hear your LO is struggling, it is so tough! 😥

our LO has since been tested for milk allergy and has been comforted milk allergy. She is now on SMA Alfamino. This has sorted the milk allergy, but unfortunately the reflux still remains. She has been on Omeprazole but unfortunately reacted to that, then tried lansoprazole and that made her significantly worse. So we are currently unmedicated for the reflux and managing as best we can with carobel to thicken feeds and saline up the nose multiple times a day to try and help clear the congestion caused by the reflux.

i really hope your LO responds well to all! Good luck and here if you ever need to just chat!
