Best things about new babies

Hello all,

I'm pregnant with my first child and in the third trimester. I feel like I'm spending so much of my head space on preparing for birth and motherhood that I'm losing sight of the good stuff.

Would love to read through what the best bits of having a brand new baby are. Which bits did you love the most? I want to make sure I treasure every minute (or as many minutes as possible), and start getting properly excited about baby's arrival ❤️

Thank you!

I’m currently cuddling my 5-day old boy watching him doze off while breastfeeding. The contentment on his face is the most heartwarming thing.

KangarooKenny · 29/08/2022 17:21

Getting all the cuddles and snuggles when breast feeding.

InsertPunHere · 29/08/2022 17:21

The little snuffly noises like a tiny woodland creature. The lovely smell of their little wee heads. Their tiny fingers and toes.

The little curl up they do when you hold them on your chest. I miss that so much.

Congratulations!

LittleBearPad · 29/08/2022 17:25

The smell, froggy legs and sleeping snuggled on your shoulder

boatyardblues · 29/08/2022 17:27

Everyone will focus on snuggles so I’ll focus on practicalities. They can’t move independently. If you put them down somewhere, they stay there. By the runaway toddler stage you hanker after it. They’re also portable (pram/car seat) so you can take them places without them having an opinion about it. 😄

So many things, driving when my little boy was a newborn and he looked like a little potato, the little clenched fists, and later on gummy smiles!

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 29/08/2022 17:29

Watching box sets. I've never been able to sit down long enough since and second time around I had the first one to care for. I'm looking forward to my 50s so I can sit down again.

everydayiscakeday · 29/08/2022 17:35

Watching box sets with a newborn snuggled on you sleeping. There’s nothing like it.

Needmorelego · 29/08/2022 17:40

Their feet.
Seriously....they are so teeny weeny adorable.

MyNameIsMarya · 29/08/2022 17:49

When they sleep. Because then they don't scream. I didn't enjoy the newborn stage as much as others did though. Now that he's almost 4 months I kinda miss him cuddling with me. He already refuses to sleep on me and always pushes himself up and looks around.

twofojoy · 29/08/2022 17:56

That newborn stretch. Makes me broody just thinking about it! The smell , their tiny little hands and feet.

The bubble - which doesn't have to be all sunshine and roses as mine was binge watching greys anatomy and eating instant meals for dinner most days Blush BUT I loved it.

Just enjoy every minute , OP. Take it all in and go easy on yourself as it really does go so quick.

dmask · 29/08/2022 17:58

They don’t move!! Enjoy whilst you can, wish I had done a few more holidays and nice meals out when they were that age, when they start moving it’s a lot more difficult!!

awwbiscuits · 29/08/2022 17:58

The smell! The scrunch up legs! The stretches! The milk drunk face 🥰

dmask · 29/08/2022 17:59

Oh and watching tv! I was a bit too obsessed with doing things as felt a bit lazy, but if I have any more I will definitely make the most of films/box sets!!

waitingfordark · 29/08/2022 18:03

My 7 week old is currently asleep on my chest after a big feed. I can't help but give her a million kisses. She is so content and snuggly.

As much as it is tiring (and I struggled the first 3 or so weeks probably because of hormones!) I feel such joy just watching her.

Seeing her beautiful face waking up, she does a cute big stretch and I just melt.
The noises she makes when she's feeding like she's just so content and happy.

Her gorgeous little legs when I'm changing her nappy, and take her legs out of the babygro. Oh my gosh I just love it. Her little feet!!!!
When she holds my finger really tight.

Not so keen when she holds my hair that way though..!

She's started smiling which is just the most adorable thing.

She loves looking at everything in the house. I walk around holding her and she stares at everything and I just chat to her.
It's just all lovely. A have many moments where I just think "god, I love you so much".

I love going places with her. I'm so excited to see how she experiences life.
Also - clothes. I just love looking at her little tiny clothes and babygros. I was doing this while I was pregnant and just imaging her in them.

It's just lovely. Hard sometimes. Especially if I'm really tired. But honestly, there's so much loveliness too 🥰

Derrymum123 · 29/08/2022 18:21

The newborn smell - if you could bottle that you'd be a millionaire.
The way they randomly move their arms and legs as though they are falling, for no reason.
The way their little chest moves up and down whilst they sleep.
When they hold onto your finger with their whole hand- pure trust.

Jendrw5 · 29/08/2022 18:41

Their little smiles, even if it's just wind at first, and then they start smiling for real. Lights up the whole room and if you're having a bad day that will definitely make it better.

glamourousindierockandroll · 29/08/2022 18:41

My first thought was the fact that they stay where you put them and as long as they are dry, warm and fed they generally are asleep and therefore you can go anywhere you like with them and they won't mind.

It's annoying when they grow opinions Grin

Teenprobs · 29/08/2022 18:42

They are cute they sleep they can't talk back, they can't move... can you tell mine is a toddler lol 😆 😅

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2022 18:44

Everything above, but also for you - you’ll probably get more sleep with a newborn than heavily pregnant! You can lie any way you want, you wont ache whenever you move and you won’t be getting up to pee 46 times a night! Everyone says how little sleep you get with a newborn, but the

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2022 18:45

They often sleep more the first 10-12 weeks than the following 10 weeks after that, and you sleep better yourself

Ballcactus · 29/08/2022 18:50

The Moro reflex-very cute

tobee · 29/08/2022 21:23

My dc are 27 and 23 now (so super long ago) but getting to know their personalities; my 2 were very different from the first. Figuring them out.

Also how they need you in a very simple way.

SalviaOfficinalis · 29/08/2022 21:27

The baby smell. I found it went as soon as I stopped breastfeeding.
