I would just buy a cheap buggy.

My DC are now 10.7 and 8 but this is what I did.

Our suitcase was wrecked when it came off the flight from Portugal in October - so I certainly would be wary of anything expensive going in the hold.

I would get a cheap buggy as long as it was age appropriate. Too many buggies get wrecked on planes and you rarely get compo.

depends on age of child

we took the whole works with carrycot last time we flew, but dd was only 7wks

it was fine in the hold but then it wasn't as expensive as the Buzz to start with...

spottyzebra · 21/01/2008 18:48

dd will be one when we go

Get a cheap one and keep your nice pram nice.

When you see how the baggage handlers throw things around, it makes you want to travel with only hand luggage or go by sea!

Olihan · 21/01/2008 19:00

The dirt cheap Mothercare ones do lie back a bit, not as far as a Quinny but enough that they can sleep okay.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 21/01/2008 19:00

Buy mine. It is only £20 plus delivery. Is suitable for a 1 year old and you have your lovely nice one to come home too and a spare buggy should it make it home too.

SparklyGothKat · 21/01/2008 19:04

oh dear We are going away to menorca in may and Callum will be about 8 months old, but the size of a 6 month old, and I didn't think about my pram... i don't want it ruined, what pram is suitable and cheap?

SparklyGothKat · 21/01/2008 19:17

ok I kill it, have looked on ebay and there is a few on there local to me, so will watch them and hope get them cheap.

lizandlulu · 21/01/2008 19:18

i went to spain when my dd was 6 months old and took her maclaren, which was my only buggy at the time, and it was fine apart from getting a bit dirty on the pink bits.
but if i went again i would def get a cheap one, look in the local paper or for sale boards.

SparklyGothKat · 21/01/2008 19:21

so the HUGE pile of buggies that I saw last year at the airport was either damaged buggies or cheapo ones that people just left behind at the airport??

oooggs · 21/01/2008 19:24

I took my powertrack and carrycot when we flew to Switzerland when ds1 was 4mths. They lost the carrycot on the flight home and we had to travel back to Cornwall via underground and train carrying him, two rucksacks, a laptop, nappybag and useless chassis. They eventually found it and we recieved it by courier two days later.

Next time I took a very cheap knackered thing

lizandlulu · 21/01/2008 19:26

yes it is just not worth risking it for the sake of £30.
looks like i was just lucky!

lizandlulu · 21/01/2008 19:28

there is a lady on the for sale boards selling a maclaren quest. she says she needs it gone tonight and will accept offers. i cant do links, but it is at the top of the list now

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/01/2008 19:31

I took my (huge and expensive) Mountain Buggy on holiday with me, despite having a smaller and cheaper one, because I wanted one that I knew was reliable and would cope on sand etc.

lizandlulu · 21/01/2008 19:32

i suppose it does depend on what type of surfaces you will be going on

snookie28 · 21/01/2008 20:19

I have a buzz and have not taken it on any flights. I am nervous it would get damaged but mainly because it is heavy and cumbersome to travel with. It would take up the entire boot of the hire car or would be a nightmare to get on or off a coach. I ended up buying a Mamas and Papas Ziko in the sales for my DD when she was 4 months. It is fab ( baby can lie down almost flat) and I didn't get too worried when I saw it being thrown onto the plane.

SparklyGothKat · 22/01/2008 16:32

ok have brought a cheap one from ebay

geminikate · 22/01/2008 16:54

I took mine for my DD and it got broken to peices..... actually saw the baggage handler throw it in the hold ...so now when I leave the country I use a cheaper one that is only used for when we travel.

I took mine, bugaboo, loads of time and was always fine (I leave it under the stairs of the plane though so it has never got lost, yet!). I am under no illusion they treat it with zero care but so do I, so fair enough. I bought a cheap stroller from e-bay for a fiver as a spare and sometimes we use that one because it'd fit the boot of a hired car better when with luggages etc.

bookwormmum · 22/01/2008 21:36

I've only flown with a stroller once (I actually bought it on holiday since I'd thought I could manage without one and found that no, I couldn't with a 2.9mo!) and that was ok except it was open on the conveyor belt at baggage reclaim. I've had enough cases damaged to risk me putting something really treasured in the hold.

Hulababy · 22/01/2008 21:37

We bought a MacLaren Volo for travel use.

BIL and SIL have taken their Buggaboo on the plane to Oz though and it was fine.

bookwormmum · 22/01/2008 21:40

Maybe long-haul flights are better at customer service generally?
