I am very surprised at how many people got things broken or ruined in flights. I travel once every two months with pram and luggage with a low cost company and everything is always in perfect condition.

Refuse to risk my bugaboo, so bought cheap second hand maclaren for when I fly, but am amazed at the number of expensive prams I see Brits with when I'm abroad - so maybe I'm being too cautious?

I've got the same dilemma at the moment...
Take my mountain buggy with me or buy a cheap stroller to take on a plane?

travel with quinny zapp can carry on as hand luggage, always have just carried on. would not risk a bugaboo with baggage handlers chucking it about - o no

I only ever took our lightweight fold-up McClaren buggy when we travelled with DS as a baby. Haevy prams are a complete PITA.

We took our P&T when we went to France and it was fine.

Well if it were me (and it has been, except I don't fly but have been on numerous other complex public transport holidays and car ferries) I wouldn't take a buggy at all, just a sling or two.

What do you do if the buggy gets wrecked on the OUTWARD flight? Then you are buggiless and you're out the £25 or so for a cheapo buggy.

You can get a gorgeous second hand mei tai for example for £25 and it definitely won't get smashed in the baggage hold.

Just a thought, for those who are interested...

I bought a cheap stroller from Kiddicare, it was £15 reduced from £30 last summer. I use it all the time as it is much lighter and less cumbersome than the britax one we bought when lo was a newborn. We took it on holiday and it was great, I wouldn't be without it now.

we bought a 2nd hand McClaren buggy to go to California. While we were waiting on the plane prior to take off, we saw it being hurled around by ground staff outside. It was structurally unscathed, but a bit dirty after a 10.5hr flight.

it's now our back up buggy, stashed away for another flight in the future, or a quick trip out on a bus etc.
