Good baby clothes brands for longevity

Amber17 · 19/08/2022 13:47

Expecting my first baby in a few months so have been buying baby clothes on Vinted eBay etc and am keen to be able to keep them for a second child or resell them.
What brands should I look out for that are particularly good at keeping their quality?

When I've sold or handed down my kids old clothes Next and M&S have lasted well and sold for most(still not talkng about a lot of money though!). H&M, George at Asda etc are cheap new so don't sell well as second hand bundles etc. Toby Tiger used to have some lovely things too.

Teacaketotty · 19/08/2022 14:01

Echo the PP, Next & M&S tend to wash well and sell better than others. Worst are Asda/Matalan - I really hate the quality of them both and seem to fade so fast, I wouldn't bother trying to resell them. JoJo maman resells well but is expensive in the first place.

Totally agree with Next and M&S. And they have really gorgeous pieces.

Primark and Asda have seen me through 3 babies and have now passed on to my dsis for her next baby. They wash and wear brilliantly, absolutely no complaints.

Cluelessfirstimer · 19/08/2022 18:11

Yup I've gotta agree with the previous post.

My sister had all primark, George at asda, h &m, matalan etc and they have been passed to me for my 10 week old. All are still absolutely perfect

Cluelessfirstimer · 19/08/2022 18:19

And yeah if it's designer you can probably sell but otherwise it maybe better to save them for another baby. I see soooo many baby clothes on line being given away (and some of it really nice stuff) to be honest I'm only on 0-3 months but I'm almost begging someone to come take all the newborn stuff away from me!

A lot of people don't like to spend a lot because it literally lasts a week sometimes

TheWayTheLightFalls · 19/08/2022 18:40

M&S, Boden. I’ve got Boden stuff which my four year old received second hand, I used for my twins and am now passing on again and it looks perfect. I don’t know if their new stuff is like that but whatever they were doing 5/6 years ago clearly lasts!

Puffykins · 19/08/2022 19:00

Boden. The Boden clothes I bought DS have also done DD and my two nephews. Also Petit Bateau and Marie-Chantal for special occasions (their tweed coats have lasted super well - they're now in moth balls for the next generation.)

LdnReno · 19/08/2022 19:11

Mori and m&s both wash well.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/08/2022 19:18

Jojo, Kite, Toby Tiger, Frugi, John Lewis

Boots, Sainbury's, Next

Amber17 · 19/08/2022 19:46

Thanks - there’s a few brands I’ve not heard of there that I’ll keep an eye out for! Was particularly interested in how well the supermarket stuff held up against higher end so it’s good to hear some of it is ok.

Boden
John Lewis
M&S
JoJo

MsSquiz · 19/08/2022 19:52

Next & M&S are mainly the ones o kept from DD1 for DD2.

I buy a lot of pre loved JoJoMamanBebe & Biden for them both from Facebook groups as well as getting them handed down from my niece.

Cluelessfirstimer · 19/08/2022 19:58

I've also found nutmeg at morrisons pretty decent

Redkite11 · 19/08/2022 20:01

For higher end brands, I definitely recommend Mori, Kissy Kissy, Purebaby and Jojomamanbebe.
Little Green Radicals and Frugi are also good. Little Green Radicals do wonderful snowsuits (don't bother with the matching mittens as the cuffs have fabric you can fold over the hands. Same with the feet),

John Lewis & M&S are always reliable. Next has varying quality I find. Some of it is great but some is poor.
Surprisingly, supermarkets like Sainsburys and ASDA do good things.

In general, I prefer to keep a baby in sleepsuits and bodysuits until they are one year and not bother with outfits until they turn one year.
It's such a bother putting socks on a baby.
Try and get sleepsuits which cover the feet.

YaaYaaYaa · 19/08/2022 20:02

Definitely Next! I've got DC3 in stuff that both DC1 (6yo) and DC2 (2yo) wore.

PutOnAHappyFace · 19/08/2022 20:06

For jumpers and t-shirts I've found Zara washes extremely well but I do find them pricey for basic baby clothes.

PinkPlantCase · 19/08/2022 20:10

Joules and boden have been the best quality I’ve found so far.

HewasH2O · 19/08/2022 20:14

Frugi & Lizzie Shirt. We used to pass these through 5 or 6 babies, toddlers and small children. www.lizzieshirt.co.uk/

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/08/2022 20:41

Kite, Picadilly, alba, frugi, Maxomorra, Joules

Haudyourwheesht · 19/08/2022 20:47

Baby Zara is appalling quality.

Next is good. Primark is very good quality but comes up small and shrinks in the wash. Still looks great but small.

fufflecake · 19/08/2022 20:49

White company
Mori
Next

glamourousindierockandroll · 19/08/2022 20:49

If i buy second hand I search for M&S, Zara, Joules, Jojo Maman Bebe and Next.

Jxtina86 · 19/08/2022 20:51

Sainsburys Tu range - DD is 3 and her wardrobe is 80% TU. It's long lasting, washes really well and I've sold on or handed down the baby stuff that looked brand new still. Also find it's more reasonably priced than M&S/Next but the quality is the same. The sizing works for DD too - I found primark to come up quite small and then everything shrinks in the wash (which is then useless to sell on).

JaninaDuszejko · 19/08/2022 20:53

Can't believe all the love for NEXT. I think it is at best variable. Sainsburys is much more reliable and cheaper. 0The more exclusive brands tend to be good quality and I've generally found supermarket stuff OK quality but heavily gendered in the main but the middle market is where things can really vary.

Reality is of course that babies wear clothes for a very short time so are unlikely to wear anything out. Go gender neutral (white, green, yellow, red sleepsuits) and get your money's worth by putting both your sons and daughters in the same outfits.

Save your money for the years when you need good quality jeans where they don't go through the knees after two minutes.
