Best pushchair for rough terrain

Looking for a single pushchair / stroller / buggy for bumpy woodland roads. Not too keen on the out n about 3 wheeler look, but I am aware they're great for all types of surface.

Any suggestions would be great!

I had the Mountain Buggy Terrain, was brilliant, as long as you don't want it for going into shops/on buses as it's big! it comes with 2 sets of rear wheels, standard and extra large so you can change depending where your going.

We had a baby jogger elite which was good (so good we ended up with 2) and they last a long time so good for long days out etc even when they're older.

frodoxjodo · 18/08/2022 15:22

I don't think the Out n About will work for me as I will be using the buggy for shops as well as woodland / grassy walks. I need one that does it all, an all in one if you will.

I should have mentioned that it will be used for shops as well Confused

I had Thule sleek…great for shops but also dog walking including along canal paths etc

Out and about

MassiveSalad22 · 18/08/2022 16:14

Out n about are ugly but honestly they’re everywhere for a reason! The suspension and air tyres are great.

MassiveSalad22 · 18/08/2022 16:17

The carrycot converts to a parent facing seat which we’re currently using.

Yessss we’ve got the MB Swift, I really wanted a 3 wheeler which could parent face, soooo hard to find!! Swift not great for off-road really but glad we got it because baby was out of carrycot at 4 weeks old 😢😢 (hip harness meant she didn’t fit) but this way she could still parent face.

CrotchetyQuaver · 18/08/2022 16:21

One with fixed big wheels

NameChange30 · 18/08/2022 16:55

If you want an all-rounder, how about the Bugaboo Lynx?

The Fox is too big for shops IMO (I have one!)

Hugasauras · 18/08/2022 16:58

Out n About is our main pram, it's fine in shops.

oop · 18/08/2022 17:28

I did lots of research before getting our Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle and I love it.
It's brilliant off road although as my little one isn't even a year old yet I've mostly used it for shopping, road walks etc. It's fine for most shops although it is bigger than other prams so is a bit tight in little cafes and small shops with tiny aisles.

The offroading is coming into its own now my baby is getting bigger as he is in the main seat and can handle a wilder bumpy ride now! You don't really want to be proper offroading with the carrycot as they'd just roll around in there 😅

Littlegoth · 18/08/2022 17:30

We’ve got the icandy peach, it’s brilliant.

welshweasel · 18/08/2022 17:35

Out and about is great. We had it as our only buggy with my youngest, it’s great round shops, can take a buggy board, is fab over rough terrain. We had an icandy peach with my eldest, it was crap in comparison and about 4 times the price!

Mythril · 18/08/2022 17:38

If the terrain you are going on is pretty flat than I will second the suggestion of Uppa Baby vista. It's has big solid wheels so can do light off-roading, and has the biggest basket ever for holding a shop.

But it's much heavier than the Out n About Nipper, which I also had. I had the double Out n About and it was still super light to push on rough terrain with two kids in it.

ladygindiva · 18/08/2022 17:39

Another for out n about , I had the twin version, amazing on the rocky lanes and coastal paths where I live and lovely to steer.

Caspianberg · 18/08/2022 17:42

Depends on how off road you need.

We have the mountain swift. I needed something for woodland, dirt roads, and snow, but small enough for shops and car. I really like it, and Ds is tall, 2.4 years and still naps in it daily so fits fine.

I would consider a bigger urban or terrain if really bumpy. The Thule looks good too but was double the price. The swift was really good value, and we used with the parent facing seat the first year, but I wouldn’t bother buying the extra seat for 1+ year old as it’s only up to 9kg

MariaDingbat · 19/08/2022 10:20

Baby jogger GT2, great in shops (you can easily manoeuvre it one handed) and great off road. We've used it for our 20 month old since birth and live in a forest park so there was a lot of off road and mucky walks during lockdowns.

One handed fold is also great and it has a hand brake rather than a foot one. It has solid tyres so no worries about them deflating and great suspension so she will happily still fall asleep in it on long walks along the river a few times a week.

frodoxjodo · 19/08/2022 10:57

@MariaDingbat sounds good. Does the seat sit up straight as well as lie flat? My D is always trying to pull her self up in her current pushchair to sit up straighter

OP posts:
MariaDingbat · 19/08/2022 11:40

@frodoxjodo The seat doesn't sit completely upright, no. It's held up by a toggle so it's never going to be 90 degrees and my daughter is leaning back a bit. You can get a bar for the front but we haven't got one as she's not too fussed yet.

BammBamm · 19/08/2022 11:41

I think you can get sit up straps for the baby joggers?

frodoxjodo · 19/08/2022 19:19

Can air filled tyres be a problem? Do they pop or need blown up often? I'm leaning towards the Mountain Buggy Swift but I see it has air filled tyres

Caspianberg · 19/08/2022 19:23

@frodoxjodo - we have the mountain swift, but bought it with the aerotech tyres. You can buy together in the premium I think to add an add on.

MGee123 · 19/08/2022 19:24

In a year of use we've only had a puncture once and I was still able to push our Mountain Buggy Terrain home with no major difficulty. I keep a hand pump in the buggy and we have a spare set of inner tubes which we take on days out/holiday in case of any issues.

we have this version which came with the aerotech tyres
