Giving 7 month old pizza for tea

Tea time is approaching and dc1 has been asking for pizza. With solids for dc2 we’re pretty much giving him what we have as finger food and he’s doing really well. But pizza, is that ok?

for the record it’s not a takeaway pizza, will be shop bought pizza base with homemade sauce and toppings, probably no meat as we don’t have any in.

It's literally processed junk food. No way.

Not necessarily , it depends on what you buy/ prepare!

Pizza is a firm family favourite here and we bought an outdoor pizza oven in lockdown. We make the dough, the sauce etc from scratch, so I know what goes in it! Pizza dough is usually fairly salty even when made from scratch so before he was one we would prep separate dough using the natural yoghurt and self raising flour method. We started him on just cheese and tomato with herbs and flavourings and then gradually introduced him to baby safe toppings.

Now he’s coming up to two, he has proper pizza dough, we just prepare some with a bit less salt. He literally will eat any topping on it. Recently, we made a cheesy garlic bread in the pizza oven and added a bit of Stilton and rosemary! He wolfed the lot down! I wouldn't have given that to a seven month old as stilton is salty but he’s 20 months now, there wasn’t much on there and It’s not like he eats it every day!

Certainly nothing processed or junk food about that.

@miltonj it was not home made she brought it from the shop. An how do you know, even if it isn’t the main cause it’s still not going to help with the Babies recovery. They find it hard to digest shop brought pizza. It’s a fact I’m not saying it to be a see you next Tuesday. I’m saying it because it’s true

I only bought the base and we chose the lowest salt on we could find, it has less salt and pita breads. Sauce I made myself from tinned toms, Olive oil, garlic and herbs. We’d have it with some mascapone as part of a pasta bake the day before with the aforementioned grilled veg

It's not a fact. Unless the child in question has coeliac disease. Obviously salt levels are to be kept an eye on but a shop bought pizza base with homemade toppings is not especially hard for an infant to digest in comparison to any other food you would feed them. It's not a problem if you don't feed pizza. Your child, but it's not the cardinal sin you're making it out to be.

@Ohshitiveturnedintomymother

There is nothing poor about my baby she eats better than yours do clearly and actually a lot of pasta sauces are bad for babies under one year too so do your research

We can all post random screenshots. Here’s one for your hysteria

This thread is amusing me no end Grin

Crack on OP, I'm sure your baby will demolish the pizza (mine was eating homemade curry at 6months old and would eat an entire punnet of cherry tomatoes in one good I let him, no issues at all)

NHS guidance says to feed baby whatever you're eating within reason, it's the best way to expose them to a wide range of tastes and textures and get them used to eating normal family meals.

You need to read again pet, before you go patronising people.

Oh and it’s BOUGHT.
Brought is the past tense of bring. Maybe more time should be spent on your SPAG than berating others online?

roarfeckingroarr · 17/07/2022 15:56

I don't think it's great. At that age I was really careful with how much salt and additives I allowed. Everything was home made.

As a one off, not too bad.

roarfeckingroarr · 17/07/2022 15:58

Home made sauce and added veg sounds ok

BabbleBee · 17/07/2022 16:01

This has brought back lovely memories!! My now 19yo DD loved a hard pizza crust to chew on when she was teething. As for babies never eating cat food, well no DD1 didn’t. She was angelic though. DD4 on the other hand…. Cat food, fluff, anything she could get her hands on went in her mouth, and she moved at lightning speed too. She’s a robust 10yo old now.

Our daughter has had both.

Tomato pasta, flour, eggs, tomatoes, mixed herbs.

Pizza, flour, yeast, tomatoes, mixed herbs, peppers (we’re dairy free, so no cheese).

Yep I agree, the ingredients are completely different and not at all similar.

Megapint · 17/07/2022 16:15

Hope you all enjoyed the pizza 🍕 sounds lovely. There are some odd ideas about food for babies on here. I have some crackin pics of my kids when they were babies covered in orange cheesy goodness after sucking down a packet of wotsits, they seem to have come out of it ok.

BertieBotts · 17/07/2022 16:29

Solid Starts is so OTT. I really dislike this current trend where to back up your "expert credentials" and justify charging ridiculous prices you have to make every possible decision parents make sound incredibly high stakes. It's tomato sauce FGS, not a Lambert & Butler with a Vodka marinade.

GretaVanFleet · 17/07/2022 16:34

KurriKawari · 16/07/2022 18:01

Put some pineapple on it.

Now that would be child cruelty 🍍❌😂

DockOTheBay · 17/07/2022 16:38

I don't think you know what the word "fact" means...

fyn · 17/07/2022 16:53

@BertieBotts Solid Starts app is completely free, their guides have a price but if you can’t afford it you just email and they give you full access for completely free…It also says 6 months olds can have pizza!

Some people on here are mental. Of course home made pizza is a perfectly fine finger food for a baby! I walked into nursery to find my 11mo DS eating just that on Friday. I also often make him a quick lunch of 'pizza toast' - a slice of bread toasted under the grill with tomato puree, grated cheese and a sprinkle of mixed herbs on top. He loves it!

That was a favorite lunch here too!

I thought this was going to be about a 7 month old pizza. I'm pretty easy going with a best before date but was going to say probably not advisable.

User2145738790 · 17/07/2022 17:40

Don’t be so ridiculous pizza is definitely not a good idea for a baby, they need simple plain foods that they can easily digest

What do you feed your child? Plain porridge every day? Babies need to try a wide variety of food.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 17/07/2022 17:42

People on MN are so weird about food.

sleepyhoglet · 17/07/2022 17:50

Is it a choke hazard?

Melassa · 17/07/2022 17:58

Pizza is fine if home made. I used to give mine my pizza crusts to chew on and she survived.

perfectly digestible unless a Domino’s meat feast, how do you think Italian kids manage?

gogohmm · 17/07/2022 18:08

It's fine, as long as it's not a daily staple most foods ok even take aways
