Huggy Wuggy in hiding

Hi all

I've read a few threads on this but given that the posts were entirely "why are you letting your children within 50m of the internet", I thought I'd shed some real light life on this.

Huggy Wuggy is not only on his own videos on youtube and tiktok (please bear in mind that primary school children show each other things) but he is now hiding in plain sight. Something like a peppa pig episode online has Huggy in the middle 5 minutes by very creative, very sick people. Many children fully believe that huggy is a good guy (there are ACTUAL SOFT TOYS OF HIM).

I work in a summer setting for primary school children and believe me, 5 and 6 year olds are very well aware what Huggy Wuggy does (He talks about squeezing you til you die, coming into your bedroom, taking your last breath). And from direct experience, very few of these children had direct access to you tube or anything at home.

Don't be naive, don't be judgemental. Having watched a child draw the creepy thing today, please do not underestimate it.

Cartoon Cat and the cartoon cat song was also a fave for a while.

It's not that it's controversial, it's that your arguments and thought processes are very muddled.

Fair enough if all you want is to warn parents that their kids might stumble onto this , and possibly the effects seen on the children in the playground if they watch this stuff with permission.

However, you're making it sound like some kind of wide spread epidemic, that's somehow making it's way into children's homes, minds and actions.

As for hidden , that video has huggy wuugy right in the title. On it ,there's a 13+ sign. I can't check right now if it's accessible on youtube kids but I will check.

DarkCharlotte · 29/06/2022 19:41

And yet there's nothing in that video that deserves that rating imo.

I just watched the whole video. It is clearly labelled as a Huggy Wuggy video - a far cry from the dramatic 'huggy wuggy in hiding' thread title - it is marked as 13+, and none of the Peppa characters were harmed in any fashion. Much ado about nothing.

My 3 year old daughter begged for a Huggy wuggy cuddly toy from a stall in Spain. She doesn't watch you tube so had never seen it before but she loved it, despite the creepy smile and sharp teeth 🤣 I bought her it and it's her favourite toy at the moment but I don't let her take it anywhere in case it's scares other children Blush I only learned it was 'Huggy Wuggy' when a woman I work with was telling me about it

rifling · 29/06/2022 20:02

I'm in Italy at a holiday resort atm and all the touristy shops have them and I've seen lots of young children with them. Ds12 keeps on saying he's going to buy one to wind me up as he knows I think they're creepy.

Kindofcrunchy · 29/06/2022 20:08

We often watch peppa pig on YouTube and have never seen any inappropriate episodes with scary characters "in hiding". You have to literally search for them in order to see them, so why would they come up otherwise? They don't just appear by accident.

There you go. Your own words.

Sorry - did i say they didnt have internet? I said they didnt direct access - in opposition to PP who was claiming they're all just left unattended and thats how they're finding this stuff.

I typed huggy wuggy peppa pig in. Hardly an unlikely search for children when people like PP claim hes perfectly innocent.

Yes, because 13 plus regularly search for peppa pig, so its not that that MAN knows exactly what hes doing (as proved on this thread!)

Are you also completely naive to the many, many videos of Peppa pig being inappropriate? That was far more widespread than this.

I still don't know what your actual issue is.

Do you think that children are actually going to squeeze each other to death?

OK.

Let's assume for one second it is much ado about nothing.

Why?

What would I, or anyone else, have to gain from it?

If it was a controversial topic I'd understand but why do you think I who currently works with children 7 hours a day (giving up my summer holidays, btw, before anyone else tries to poke holes) would make this up? Do I have an agenda against blue monsters?

Re your stupid comment about me being "dramatic" - its in hiding because he deliberately doesnt appear at the start because parents very rarely read the video titles and instead glance at the beginning at the video. This is a grown ass man who knows exactly what he is doing.

I honestly can't believe what imr eading here. You guys carry on being "cool mums", my time is too valuable to waste on people who just interrogate and attack anyone who dares to come on.

0h my i have bought my son a blue and a green Huggy..

He watches Unspeakable(American Youtubers) and that is how he found out about Huggy.
He sleeps cuddled up to the two toys and thinks they are cute!
Are you trying to say I have got a future Serial killer in the making because he likes some silly cuddly toys from a daft computer game?

beautyisthefaceisee · 29/06/2022 20:25

I'm done.

AmbushedByCake · 29/06/2022 20:30

Interrogate and attack? Or, you know, discussing on a discussion site? MN isn't an echo chamber. We all know there's loads of shit that is inappropriate for children on the internet, I happen to think that you're wildly overreacting about this particular thing. There's always been creepy things, there always will be, there's always been kids exposed to stuff they shouldn't have, sneakily watching Nightmare On Elm Street when I was about 8 scared the shit out of me but it hasn't done me any long term damage. A bit of perspective is needed here I think.

ApricotSuite · 29/06/2022 20:30

I told you previously I wasn't engaging with you. it still stands.

Oh yes, because I said that the children who didn't watch YouTube would be able to run faster if a classmate was attempting to hug them to death as they would be more active.

DelosParks · 29/06/2022 20:35

its in hiding because he deliberately doesnt appear at the start because parents very rarely read the video titles and instead glance at the beginning at the video.

That's not responsible parenting and these four and five year olds you speak of should not be having unsupervised access to the internet anyway. Their adult should be with them.

There are plenty of other ways to watch Peppa Pig other than YouTube, a platform that is not for children.

Ionianprincess · 29/06/2022 20:40

You’re coming across as quite hysterical and rather rude op.

Kids have always enjoyed things like huggy wuggy. I think if you try to ban it you just make it more attractive.

DS knows about huggy/poppy playtime because of the stupid fan creator stuff on YouTube (what a load of garbage that is) We talked about it openly and we actually looked up who the creators are, how video games are made. Think he’d quite like to become a developer now. At least I know he can talk to me.

Well, I laughed at your post but you've been told off now so you better shush.

Or Huggy Huggy will get you...

I also work with children. It's not some kind of trump card.

ApricotSuite · 29/06/2022 21:14

I hope the OP doesn't find out I'm a year two teacher. She will be even more cross.

ApricotSuite · 29/06/2022 21:18

Also OP, you LITERALLY asked how not watching YouTube was going to 'help them in them in the playground'.

That was my answer to your question.
