Just dropped my 26 month old at nursery

For the first time. I have never left him alone with anyone before. Luckily he ran off to play and I bolted as he did, as they don’t offer settling in sessions due to covid.

I feel like I’m missing my little mate and I hate it.

We are sending him because he’s such a sociable little boy and we hope, will enjoy it.

So, this is week 2 and whilst he stays for his whole sessions, he now sobs on the way to nursery and at drop off. As soon as I said we are going to nursery, he says “no nursery! Go home!” then today as we got closer he started sobbing and saying “no nursery!” again. 😪

Today is the first day I haven’t called to check after 30 mins or so, because he’s always been fine and always happy when I arrive to collect him. He’s bouncing around and enthusiastically saying his goodbyes to everyone.

is this normal? He really is so distraught at the idea of going there but when he’s there he is ok. At least that’s what I’m told.

OP Normal.

My DD has been to a CM part-time since nearly 10 months. She had a few days of upset at around a year old but otherwise has always been happy at the CM. From about 18 months she would bounce into the CM house. Now she even shuts the door on me when she arrives.

She started going to nursery on the other days a few days before she was 3 and was initially upset to go in. Now she bounces in as she knows she has friends to play with.

She likes going to both of them because she gets to do completely different things and gets different amounts of attention from the adults in charge.

Some people are ridiculous.

You need to know months because there are children like my DD who will be the oldest in their school year going to nursery with those who will be the youngest in their school year.

Nurseries have to put them in the right groups due to age particularly for school preparation, but also need to be aware of the developmental stage they are at so need to know the child's age in months.

Bless you OP. My DS was the same but once he was there he was fine.

It's so hard but definitely give it time
