How old were your children when you got to have a lie in?

I don't mean the kids coming into your bed with the iPad and you going back to sleep. I'm talking they can go downstairs and fully take care of themselves without setting the house on fire and you could have a peaceful lie in.

6 of them, youngest is 7mth eldest 16. They are quite happy to sleep or amuse themselves upstairs until 9 or 10 on weekends/holidays.

@Pyri

I’ve had weekly lie ins since my baby was born, every weekend husband and I take it in turns to have a lie in / get up with the baby. Do you have a partner to have a similar set up?

Otherwise I am longing for these days!

Same here. Our lie ins were sacrosanct. We were in turn undisturbed until 9am at the weekend. Then the parent who was up with the kids would take a brew and breakfast to the one having the lie in. Worked for us until such time as we could trust them alone - ie when they were about 10🤣🤣🤣

Do you not have a partner that can look after them in the morning some days?

My youngest is 3 and she occasionally gets up with my eldest and they watch TV together until about 8.30 so that feels like a lie in. We live in a small flat so I guess it's easier for me to just stay in bed without worrying about what they're doing because I can see them from my bed...

I love this thread and looking back to when I first wasn't woken up by "3-4 year old toddler sharks" pacing round and around my bed at 4.30am waiting to see which one of us parents might flinch our sleepy (but knowing) eyes. Standing staring at us . Mum. Mum. Mum. Mum... - well yeah by my side...
mostly all a blur when they first didn't wake me up before 6am, as by then I was an early bird happy to shower and cook breakfast at silly o'clock too...

Because.... later year when you Hit 13/14 years old ... they become bed slugs! Who can't enunciate.

Your early risers flip the rules!
You get all the lay ins you want. And the late nights saying "umm lights out please, it's past midnight"

Once 17-19 when in PT jobs as well as studies, it's all a mix of getting up early for work or college/ uni and laying in bed until mum wonders " if they'd like to see the sun and maybe eat some lunch? "

You'll get your sleep back one day..!

She 6 for making his own breakfast for my pfb and turning telly in to catch what he wanted to watch, ofc ghis was at 5am. 🤣

Age 6 and 8 for DD2snd DD3 but they both put their breakfast orders into their older brother. Who would diligently make them. At 5.25am. Mum got to clean up the milk spillage etc. as mum got up too. Mum was an idiot and realises this was prime sleeping in time especially at weekends as their body clocks worked all week.

'She' = Age, sorry autocorrect

Mine did it for nearly a year at age 4-5 but is now incapable of it at age nine. Grrrrrrrrrrr
