For the first 2 weeks i would only do lunch, after two weeks add in breakfast or dinner and then following another 2/3 weeks add in another meal.

For food I would do vegetables if possible rather than anything too sweet.

Cereal wise my LO love weetabix with whole milk and blueberries etc added in.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 03/03/2022 13:29

Are you doing blw or purees and finger foods? If you are doing purée you go to 3 meals from 9 months.

Start with whatever meals are easiest.

What do you want to know about milk?

Thank you very much for all the info. I will try him with some vegetables first, I'll look up some recipes 😂 xx

Sorry what does blw mean? I think would be best with doing the puree, not sure i could handle him or me with him having finger foods. With the milk was wondering when would i introduce the whole milk to him? Xx

Basically don't over think it.

No blue cheese, no whole nuts (though peanut butter is fine) and no honey.

Other than that, offer what you eat and / or some purées either that you make yourself or buy.

We had dietician help to wean eldest due to allergies and she told me to start with breakfast as you're always at home. Weetabix with whole milk is fine. Do some toast as well if you want.

When the like this introduce dinner as again you're nearly always at home.

Leave lunch until last and put off food outside the home as long as you can lol.

Twizbe · 03/03/2022 16:09

Whole milk in food from 6 months. As a drink from 12 months.

Bow is baby-led weaning, where you give them normal food, not slop, and they learn to chew instead on gulping down paste. Just give them what you eat.

Careful on the judgement there.

BLW and traditional weaning are just two methods of doing the same thing - feeding your baby.

One isn't better than the other and whichever you do baby learns to chew, baby learns to eat and baby is fed.

OP - pick whichever works for you. It really doesn't matter.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 03/03/2022 16:34

Blw is giving finger foods/family food. You do need to start giving finger foods after a couple of weeks. Some babies will only accept finger food. If you are worried about choking the British red cross have videos on YouTube about what to do and it’s a good idea to look up videos of the difference between gagging and choking in babies. Gagging is scary but can be very normal.

Thank you very much, appreciate all the help. With the toast, it will be like solider size pieces so he won't choke and would be able to grab it? Xx

Yeah, just cut it up into your finger sized strips.

We did brown toast with butter and marmite or with peanut butter. They loved it.

They might gag a bit but it's very unlikely that they will choke.

Op didn't ask for judgement over BLW or traditional but you gave it anyway.

We do a mixture of BLW and purée but on the whole DS prefers BLW. We are cautious of salt.

Breakfast: weetabix, porridge, toast with toppings like avocado
Lunch/tea:
-filled pitta bread (hummus, egg mayo, purée veg, fish paste, tuna mayo, cream cheese),
-mashed or puréed veg with finely chopped sausage or chicken (I can feed this with a spoon if I need to)
-pasta with tinned tomatoes, puréed veg (so as part of the sauce), peas and tuna
-poached eggs with cooked cherry tomatoes and spinach all mixed up.

I also give him veg and sausage in batons. But if I don’t mix it up a bit he’ll just eat the things he likes. We follow most meals with fruit. DS doesn’t have teeth yet.

PurBal · 04/03/2022 07:22

I should add that these are things we eat so he’s eating broadly the same as us. He likes curry but he rubs food all over his face so often I don’t give it to him much.

Thank you very much for the ideas. I'm excited to try him with food, i think he will be excited too he constantly watches us when we eat 😂 i would like him to eat what i have as I'm back on my slimming world. Ah that is so cute that he like curry xx

@Twizbe anyone can judge anything they want. To clarify, I don’t give a shit about your thoughts. HTH

Ok .... I obviously hit a nerve.

I hope everything is ok for you as we all know how we feed babies is a very emotive topic.

RandomQuest · 04/03/2022 17:45

I second the advice to start with breakfast since you’re always home. You can offer a variety of spoon fed and finger foods (which is just traditional weaning!) and see what goes down well. Like mashed avocado on toast fingers to self feed or porridge made with whole milk and fruit to spoon feed. One of mine would only be spoon fed before 1, the other one would only self feed.
