Leaking nappies

My 14 week old son has started leaking through his nappies every night.
He is currently in size 4 pampers dry, he was originally wearing size 4 little angels but began leaking and waking up wet. Just out of curiosity, is there much difference in size between little angels and pampers? Size 3 little angels does not fit him as he was having leaks through the day in this size, but could size 3 pampers be okay? Not sure if it's worth sizing down in another brand???.....

If not, is there anything else I could use that may help with leaks or different brand of nappy that are good through the night? I never had an issue with pampers with my first so was shocked when I changed over and these also leaked.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated as he is getting wet and 9 times out of 10 he will just stay asleep and in the morning wake up very wet and cold and I am worried of him getting unwell due to lying in cold wet clothes all night.

TIA x

@Caspianberg

If he has last mil k at 6/7pm, can you just change him in the dark around 10pm before you sleep. So he’s peed majority into first nappy
It's the waking him up that I'm avoiding, I've never been a one to wake a sleeping baby, not even for feeds as I've never had to as both of my boys were big so never had to ensure they were feeding in the night. If all else fails then I will start waking him so he isn't wet, but I am hoping the other options work so I don't have to start changing routines as we are big on routines in my house.

If he's having a hungry day and he starts to twist an hour or so after he's been put to bed, I will go up and change him, but again, it doesn't help as it's only been an hour or 2 give or take

I feel your pain, I have a similarly chunky baby boy who was in size 4 nappies quite early (he has such a big tummy) and feeds a lot in the night so often leaks. ‘Luckily’ he’ wakes up for an hour between 8-9 so we change him then and that seems to help. If that’s not feasible for you, have you tried nappy pants? I always find the leak comes at the bit where we do he nappy up.

Haven’t rtft so sorry if it’s already been mentioned but definitely try nappy pants instead of nappies.

My son was in them from 5 months for the same reason, leaked through every brand, every size etc.

We used Aldi to start with but now pampers. Both are good but pampers NP are better.

Nappy pants have been mentioned several times so I might give this a go!
I used pull ups on my oldest when he started potting training and wearing no nappy through the day and I really liked them

They definitely have a lot more give for night time sleeping I found, so even when he woke up full he hadn’t leaked - despite moving around the cot all night.

I’d try Aldis first as they’re much cheaper than pampers, see how you get on, even if just used at bedtime. Pampers are more expensive so I stock up when they have deals on but I do find they’re much better especially day time as they don’t go so heavy.

Your 14 week old is 22lb? Are you sure op?

My 8 month old is 19lb and she's 98th percentile.

Not having a dig, just a bit confused with it all!

Aw273 · 28/02/2022 11:42

When mine was in size 4s they would leak because he would sleep on his side- it was always the same side so I would wrap a second nappy around that side and close the outer nappy over it. Now he’s big enough for size 5 nappy pants they’re much more absorbent so no more leaks!

Sorry, what's confusing? He was 10lb 14oz born so he has only just doubled his birth weight really. He is also very long.

My oldest was the same, always bigger than other babies his age.

They are good because when they wee their tum goes down and the waist shrinks with them

I found it helpful to use the + size ones for nighttime, they’re the same size just with extra absorbency. So once the size 4 we’re leaking by morning we used 4+ on a night, but stayed with the 4 during the day as they get changed more often.
We use the pampers active, which are more expensive but we’ve barely ever had any leaks.

Boys charts are different as they are bigger/heavier as babies.

My boy was 98th centile and was 19.8lbs at 14 weeks. He then went off the top of the chart for while.

Also a baby girl turning 8 months old today and weighing exactly 19lbs is 74th centile.

Mamk · 28/02/2022 14:48

I think people are following these charts a little too closely. Baby's heights, weight, body shape all varies just like adults. Some 6m -2year olds weigh around the same as people have mentioned but I'm sure that's ok, I would say his weight is absolutely normal and I'd probably say anyone older who is the same weight/in the same size nappies are on the small side but that's just from experience with my 2 boys being big.

From his birth weight and length to his current weight and length it is completely fine and healthy, so I'm struggling to understand why there is confusion surrounding his weight, especially when the post was about other brands of nappies....

Im pretty sure all your babies are healthy whether they are 6-12 month just gone into size 4s or if they are 2-3 years old in size 4s, but in addition my 14 week old is also very healthy in his size 4s and being over 20lbs.
If we all followed the charts we all wouldn't wear different size bras/clothing to our peers, especially when we were teens. What might be the norm for other babies might be different for your own!

I am so glad there are several parents on here who have responded positively and offered advice and those who also have bigger babies who understands as the negative ones just try to make you feel stupid and have responded to my post like I've said the absolute impossible! Some babies are bigger, some are smaller, so really struggling up understand these comments that are telling me to double check his weight, go to size 2 nappies or asking if I'm sure because of course I am sure, he has been weighed several times and they have all lined up. I appreciate you may think it's hard to understand how your older baby is the same if not lighter than mine but that's just how it is

Thanks for responses

Pampers are rubbish for leaking. I switched to Lidl's brand and they are much better. Tesco brand is also pretty good.

lboogy · 28/02/2022 14:51

Don't know why ppl are giving you a hard time op.
You know your child better then strangers. If you say the nappies are not too big then you're correct. Can't believe such a fuss over nappy sizes. Not all babies fit neatly into categories

SatinHeart · 28/02/2022 15:08

Another vote for nappy pants - pampers baby dry ones always worked great for my two.

NameChangeCity123 · 28/02/2022 15:21

I liked the Aldi nappies on the first few sizes but not after size 3. I switched to coop own brand, boots own brand and pampers at size 3 and 4 and all have been much better. Maybe try some of those?

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 28/02/2022 18:06

Aldi nappies are the worst nappies we ever tried! Always leaked. Lidl are absolutely amazing!

Sounds like he's having a big milk feed before bed. The nappy probably just can't conta8n that amount of wee. Try changing to 4+ which absorbs more. I used to have to change my DS nappy while they were sleeping when he went through this, managed to do it in cot without waking him, you could try this? I'd do it just before I went to bed & nappy was often already full.

jannier · 12/02/2023 09:51

Get the plus size they are the same size and more absorbent.

MooMa83 · 12/02/2023 21:34

Rascal and friends nappies are the only brand that haven't leaked for us...they are only sold in Tesco. The other thing to consider is reuseables as people rate these for not leaking....we couldn't quite get on with them though.

bravotango · 12/02/2023 21:46

Aldi nappies and leave the vest unpoppered! Big baby here too Grin
