It's not needed really.

NutCheeseBag · 22/02/2022 12:21

Pointless and unnecessary

IstayedForTheFeminism · 22/02/2022 12:21

Newborns really don't need TV.

Nope.

LimeSegment · 22/02/2022 12:22

I'm not precious about no TV for kids or anything, but yeah this really isn't needed. Are you going to prop their head up in front of the screen?

LaLaLouella · 22/02/2022 12:23

Nope! Why on Earth would you think it's a good idea for a newborn to be propped up in front of a tv!

NerrSnerr · 22/02/2022 12:23

If they're a newborn just watch what you want to watch. They may like to look up at the flashing images.

I watched a lot of box sets when mine were tiny.

1940s · 22/02/2022 12:24

In a small handful times of desperation (baby screaming in car seat whilst DH frantically tried to get to next service station so I could breastfeed I quickly searched in YouTube for some sensory tv to provide distraction and a break from the ear splitting screaming. I'd not have considered it in any other scenario

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/02/2022 12:25

Babies aren't that discerning on TV and music. Just watch and listen to what you want.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/02/2022 12:27

Why?

nameisnotimportant · 22/02/2022 12:33

They can't see that far at this age. You would have to sit them pretty close to even see it. I'm not precious about tv time really but at that age it's not necessary

gogohm · 22/02/2022 12:41

Why. I'm not precious about tv and children but babies are too young, just watch what you want to watch, or better still listen to music (apparently Mozart is goodGrin) and interact with your baby - experts say your baby seeing your face and talking to them is the best thing you can do

blueoranges · 22/02/2022 12:43

Would a newborn even be interested?
I've nothing against children having screen time but it seems unnecessary for a newborn.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 22/02/2022 12:44

I am not precious about TV but absolutely no need for it at all and probably overstimulating (even things like Hey Bear).

Music, flash cards, basic baby sensory, cuddles!

mindutopia · 22/02/2022 12:46

No point, they don't care and can't see much anyway, and it's boring.

No harm in having the tv on though. I shamelessly spent a lot of time on mat leave with a feeding/sleeping baby, watching documentaries (and maybe a bit of Jeremy Kyle too). Dh watched loads of Game of Thrones. If you are sitting down, with a baby, might as well have snacks and watch something you enjoy. After the teeny baby stage, you don't get much sitting down/tv time anymore.

HalloHello · 22/02/2022 12:50

How newborn are we talking? When mine was NB, he slept or fed constantly, no time for TV but it was on so I could watch it, or my toddler. Now he's almost 6 months, I do put that dancing fruit on YouTube so I can make my lunch or run the hoover around.

Krustykrabpizza · 22/02/2022 12:54

Why? What would be the point?

On the off-chance you're genuine... A newborn hasn't the ability to focus on a TV screen let alone take in any information (audio or visual).

BertieBotts · 22/02/2022 13:05

Newborns are amazed by trees and ceiling lights. TV is probably a bit too overstimulating for them.

Don't feel that you need to provide constant entertainment, babies often like to "just be" - often from a safe base (e.g. your arms) - normal life is what they want to watch :)

Timeturnerplease · 22/02/2022 13:09

DD2 has watched a lot of tv due to having a 3yo sister who needed entertaining while we were trying to get through milk refusal and weight loss. Can’t say she was bothered early on, but now at 6mo she does love a bit of Bing.

I’d watch what you want to watch tbh, there’s plenty of time later to suffer through kids tv.

What are you actually asking? What are your thoughts?

Hugasauras · 23/02/2022 18:53

Do you actually mean newborn? Like a week or two old? Pointless.

We did use the dancing fruit and veg on YouTube when she was older if she got upset in the car and we couldn't stop though!

Hugasauras · 23/02/2022 18:53

Oh and yes I had the TV on plenty but I was watching stuff I wanted to watch on it!
