No

Zero need for it.

Hugasauras · 23/02/2022 19:03

Do you have any experience of newborn babies, OP? I'm just asking because I can't imagine anyone who has one thinking their baby is watching the TV!

Sorry I should have give background. 2.5 months so maybe not so newborn. She has been sooo alert very early. she is glued and I mean glued to TVs, lights, mobile phones, and other contrasting things ..

I just meant things like baby sensory tv, you know the ones with the fruit and music etc.

No need absolutely no need! And yes if you must know, I am a first time mum, thanks for your input though :)

It wasn't intended to be rude, more that if you have no experience of babies (I didn't before I had mine) then it's something you might wonder and then when they're here realise it's not what you expected!

There's plenty of ways to stimulate young babies' senses without the TV. Those black and white books and coloured scarves and things can be good.

00100001 · 23/02/2022 20:31

It's the contrast in light. You'll notice they'll stare at windows/sky as well

Just be aware that the TV shouldn't be used to "entertain" a wee bairn. They have no need for that

CaMePlaitPas · 23/02/2022 20:33

Just lie them on a towel on the floor and give them a cardboard tube. That's if they are awake that long.

I recommend a disco light op.
My son absolutely loved his.

Not even 3 lonths old and already glued to the tv... really sad.

My son loved Peppa Pig from ten weeks. He was memorised. Gave me ten mins to have a wee and make a sandwich without him crying.

I think if you're aiming for your DC to be addicted to screens at as young an age as possible, it's brilliant way to start.

Frazzled2207 · 23/02/2022 21:05

Insane.

As a new mum YOU definitely want tv when you have a newborn. Whatever you like on Netflix and you won’t have to worry about the content like you will when the dc are older. Baby will not care.

Sure once a few months old a bit of cbeebies or whatever is fine.

But when they are newborn and can barely focus let alone hold up their heads….bonkers

MrsTimRiggins · 23/02/2022 21:07

I wouldn’t aim to have my tiny baby watching tv, no. My boy is (nearly) 16 weeks and is also fascinated by the tv, but that’s really only because he likes lights, moving ones especially.
I suppose he’s watched several rugby matches, and the Super Bowl, but only by way of being in the room while they were on.

OtiMama · 23/02/2022 21:11

Personally it's a no from me unless they are frantic and then hey bear sensory can be useful to distract and calm. At a couple of months old they can be easily entertained even if alert by toys and day to day things.

I read that if you put it on too much babies find it harder to be content with less stimulating non electronic things and get bored easily. Not sure how true that is but my son didn't watch TV until he was over one and he's always been good at just playing but I might just be lucky!

ShetlandPony1 · 23/02/2022 21:33

I will go against the grain of most and say that my dd loved the dancing fruit on the baby sensory tv videos on YouTube from only a few weeks old.
She had horrendous colic and reflux and spent hours upon hours screaming and crying. This was the only thing that seemed to distract her enough to stop crying for a few minutes.

Erictheavocado · 23/02/2022 22:42

I wouldn't normally think it necessary, however, it was an absolute lifesaver for dh and me when our dil was rushed into hospital when dgs was just six weeks old. We ended up looking after him for three weeks so that DS could split his time between work and hospital. There were nights when the music on baby TV helped to soothe our precious, new dgs to sleep like nothing else did. Honestly, it was a massive help to us and helped get all of us through a tough time. Thankfully that is now a distant memory and dgs is a happy, healthy little boy and dil has made a full recovery.

Strokethefurrywall · 23/02/2022 23:14

Meh. I put both DSs in front of Baby Mozart DVDs as soon as they could watch something.

In fact DS2 was utterly mesmerized by Toy Story 2 from a young age because DS1 was watching it.

Gave my plenty of peace to make dinner, have a drink, sort DS1 out.

Tiny newborns won’t watch anything but if they’re happy watching baby lights/sensory stuff then crack on.
