Leaking nappies. What to put over?

Ds (15m) wees through everything on a night and regularly wakes up soaked.
He is in 6+ nappies which are fine in the day.

I have tried different brands, sizing up, sizing down but the only thing that works is a bamboo nappy liner. However, I hate having to clean the liners, especially as he sometimes poos as soon as he wakes.

Is there anything that I could put over the top, instead of inside to stop the leaks?

Double nappy or use a reusable nappy cover. But the problem is that if he's soaking the initial nappy, he's going to be sitting in wee regardless of what you put on top, which won't be nice for his skin. He might just need a middle of night nappy change! DD went through a phase of this and I would do a nappy change on her about 11 or so when I went to bed, which did help.

We are planning on using reuseable nappies, I've bought disposable nappy liners for the inside. Could you use the bamboo booster with a disposable liner on top, and then just throw the disposable bit away? You don't have to clean the bamboo liner itself then.

I always used a massive cloth nappy for overnights with a motherease wrap as more reliable. Not anti-disposables as they have their place for convenience when out and about and for certain outfits, but I never found one that didnt leak overnight or contain explosive poos

I really don't want to wake him for a middle of the night nappy change.
The liners are ok but I was hoping that there was something that went outside so wouldn't be soaked through.

I'll have another look at reusables to go over. I was just a bit confused by all of the options.
Any recommendations would be fab.

Oh I'm going to follow as my little one is 7 months and has started leaking through. He was not impressed at 2am this morning🙈 nappies are fine during the day. like you I have tried sizing up, nappy pants, not doing up the vest to allow the nappy to expand.
Wonder if it's a boy thing?
My sil never had this problem with my nieces .

Have you tried going up a vest size so it’s not as tight on the nappy?
Lidl nappies with the magical tubes are really good. If it’s still leaking out a bigger nappy on over the top.

You would still need to clean the bamboo booster and nappy shell. Wee soaks straight through the liner. It is just there to stop as much poo getting on the nappy (which it doesn't stop much of in the newborn stage!).

Have you tried the pull up nappies? I found them better for leaks.

When my kids were small we used waterproof rubber pants, can you still get those?

I'm an finding these are getting a bit small on my tall and thin 18m old. They are quite stiff.

I now use a tots bots all in one, with the night time nappy's booster pad tucked inside.

No Leaks and looks comfier.

These were the only thing that worked for us. Tried every nappy, pull ups, waterproof pants, liners, nothing worked! Except a very big nappy pant (size 7!) with one of these pads inside. Someone suggested trying tena ladies instead as they’re cheaper and presumably the same thing!

Not a chance. He's a really light sleeper. Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm just going through them all to try to find something that would work. I've tried all of the obvious- vest undone, pull-ups etc. He just wees a LOT, I think.

Have you tried drynites boys? We put one of those (the age 3-5 one) on over my 1 yr olds size 6 nappy, specific nighttime nappies hold more I think? Obviously not reusable but has stopped us from having to run the washing machine for sheets & pyjamas every single day.

Leave vests and sleepsuits unpoppered at night so that there’s more space for the nappy to expand.

If its leaking through he needs changing. If he's a light sleeper then surely having a soaking wet nappy disturbs him.

My son has leaked through from early age so I've always used double nappies. Usually use a pull-up over a regular nappy. Seems to do the trick. Must be a boy things as my DD never did

Depends how old he is but we find motherease duo microfibre with a booster work well. Do the nappy lady questionnaire or just email them for advice.

Are you using normal nappies or nappy pants? I switched to nappy pants once they were active and didn't have another leak afterwards

I've tried both nappies and nappy pants. In all sizes and brands.
I will try with vest left open but have already sized up with vests so they are not too night.

I think that the soaking through happens very early morning and doesn't wake him but I wouldn't be able to change him without waking him.
He is a front sleeper so I wonder whether it's something to do with that.

I used to change DS1 when I went to bed, I developed excellent ninja skills. Putting the nappy back to front helped too as they seemed to be more coverage at the back. And yes to loose vests/PJ's to avoid compression leaks.

Is size 6 right? We use Tesco nappies and their size 6 is for 15kg+, is there a chance he's weeing out of it?

My son leaked a lot before especially if he also did a poo in the morning. We put a nappy over the top backwards, holds it all in tight. I sometimes think they leak because they are weighed down by the wee.

2 brands isn't a lot to try op. My ds used to leak a lot with lidl and morrisons nappies. But pampers, Asda and tesco all fine but had to down size. Hes almost 2 and hes tall and hes in 5 plus
