DS is 15 months and LOVES books! We read each one multiple times daily and I’m getting a bit fed up with our current selection!

What’s YOUR favourite book to read your child? And what’s your child’s favourite?

He’s a big fan of all the Julia Donaldson ones - especially Tabby McTat 🤣 we have a great litter secondhand book shop in our village so would love to go a walk today and hunt for some of your recommendations 😊

Hairy Maclary and Slinky Malinki books by Lynley Dodd are lovely to read. Very rhythmical.

HotHointheavo · 07/02/2022 13:23

Keep love in your heart
No Matter What
Room on the Broom

I like books where the rhymes are satisfying- tyrannosaurus drip is my favourite Julia Donaldson, closely followed by tabby mctat.

They're a bit older now, and it's all about Harry Potter 🧙

The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch is lovely.

pompomseverywhere · 07/02/2022 13:57

Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson is my favourite

mogschristmascalamity · 07/02/2022 14:02

The runaway dinner by allan ahlberg. After a recommendation on here i can concur it is the best book ever.

Dont worry about repetition DD insisted on 'what pirates reallly do' every night for 6 months (another good book). 5 years on i can still recite it. Dd is a fluent reader and adores books.

ladygindiva · 07/02/2022 14:15

I first read "guess how much I love you" to Dc1 over 20 years ago. Still can't get through it without getting a wobbly voice when I read it to my 5 yo twins now.

10 little fingers and 10 little toes at that age.

Conflictedingrief · 07/02/2022 14:57

The Book With No Pictures - guaranteed squeals of laughter from all ages!!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 07/02/2022 15:00

The Book with No pictures by BJ Novak is great for children 4+ getting to grips with how books work, so funny and had my Dd in stitches, especially when I put on an indignant voice at having to read such ridiculous words.

I also loved the Albie books by Caryl Hart it looks like there are a few more in the collection now compared to when DD was little.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 07/02/2022 15:01

@conflictedingrief great minds think a like ☺

CampervanQueen · 07/02/2022 15:02

We all love the JD books. The Highway Rat is my favourite.

The Black Dog by Levi Pinfold is a nice story and has the most beautiful, whimsical illustrations which made reading it over and over and over and over a pleasure!

BFPDec21 · 07/02/2022 15:07

'Oi cat/dog/frog, etc.' or Monkey Puzzle

stayathomer · 07/02/2022 15:25

Used to love the large family, now I think it's actually really negative (always about the parents getting away from the kids, ends nicer but not enough for me!!!!) Love The Gruffalo, Owl babies and one that I think is called Goodnight little bear

Rosebud1302 · 07/02/2022 21:45

Literally all the Julia Donaldson books!! At that age my son loved Room on the Broom, Monkey Puzzle and A Squash and a Squeeze the best.
Supertato series.
"There's a.....in your book" series by Tom Fletcher.
Oi frog series
Diggersaurs
All the "Ten Little" series
Dear Zoo and Oh no!

Children's book are the best. I could go on and on 🤣🤣

FlowerPig · 07/02/2022 22:01

DD is same age, she loves any flap book but we always finish with Goodnight Moon before bed, I know it by memory now but never tire of it and she likes to point out the things we say goodnight to now too.

My favourites are Nancy Tillman books, On The Night You Were Born, I'd Know You Anywhere and Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You are my favourites.
Also second Love You Forever, as mentioned above.
And Ainsley Earhdart - Take Heart My Child and Through Your Eyes.
I often end up blubbering reading these though 😳

Phos · 08/02/2022 10:31

The wonky donkey ones are fun, we also like anything Julia Donaldson (except Princess Mirror-Belle, that one does my head in).

Aside from that I like Some Dogs Do, Penguins Can't Fly and How Big Is A Million.

stayathomer · 08/02/2022 10:43

Sorry, forgot The Day the Crayons Quit and Dear Zoo!

shivbo2014 · 08/02/2022 11:30

Goodnight Digger, never get bored of it.

WhiteHorse92 · 09/02/2022 11:44

Another one for the 'Oi....!' series. I got my little one Oi Cat and Oi Aardvark for Christmas and I really enjoy reading them to my 11 month old, I love the rhyming words and illustrations.

BuddhaForMary · 09/02/2022 12:05

Meg and Mog. I love the illustrations and they were my favourites as a child. I get to read them all over again Grin

ImSoMagical · 09/02/2022 12:08

Don't know if it's been said, but Meet the Parents by Peter Bently is a favourite, my daughter is 9 (and its perhaps too young for her now) but she still loves it!

Chickenpoxtwins · 09/02/2022 12:09

Snail and the whale is my favourite. It's so beautifully written.
