Baby won’t nap in cot and starting nursery

Hi all- so we are starting my girl in nursery in a few weeks and she only naps in her pushchair, and I’ve just found out nursery don’t use pushchairs for naps.

What are we going to do???

This happened to me years ago with DS.

You won't believe this, but they WILL nap in a cot.

Along with eating things they refuse to eat at home.

MelonTits · 18/01/2022 19:37

Yeah, just let them get on with it.

User0ne · 18/01/2022 19:39

They'll be fine. Try not to stress about it but do make nursery aware that they're not used to sleeping in a cot.

Nursery workers are ninjas as getting kids to sleep. She might still refuse to nap for you anywhere other than the pushchair, but I bet nursery will get her napping not in a pushchair.

Hohofortherobbers · 18/01/2022 19:39

They all lie down on little padded blankets and fall sleep on the floor upon command. It's witchcraft.

tvcc · 18/01/2022 19:39

It's magic how they get them to sleep at nursery

Bobbybobbins · 18/01/2022 19:43

They will fall asleep, don't know how they manage it. So cute when they are all sleeping together on those little mattresses!

oneconcernedmama · 18/01/2022 19:44

From experience working in a baby room you will be very surprised how quickly they get into their new nursery routine and they will sleep, if not in a cot straight away then likely in someone's arms/on a cushion/ on a mat. Don't stress about it!

TheGriffle · 18/01/2022 19:46

Both of mine only ever fell asleep on the boob or in the pushchair/car for me, never in a cot/on a bed. Mostly, bar the odd day, they slept fine at nursery. They are miracle workers!

Timeturnerplease · 18/01/2022 19:52

Nurseries have magic sleep ladies. Eldest was a bloody awful nap refuser and needed vigorous buggy rocking and white noise to send her off (while she howled in protest). Nursery nailed cot naps on the first day there with just the white noise and some bottom patting. She still only slept for half an hour but I was astounded at the Tapestry photos of her happily napping in a cot. She never once napped in a cot at home, ever.

I repeat: nursery ladies are MAGIC.

ellesbellesxxx · 18/01/2022 19:54

I was flicking through my daughters learning journey and found a picture of her first sleep at nursery, in the baby room, on a cushion 😁 apparently she didn’t want to go in a cot but they bewitched her into sleeping in there (despite the fact that it would have been busy!)

Fallagain · 18/01/2022 19:57

They have some kind of magic one. DD1 wouldn’t sleep in a cot at all, naps where cuddles or in the pushchair. For the first couple of weeks they rocked her in the pushchair and then she slept in a cot. One day they forgot to give her a dummy and she slept fine.

DappledThings · 18/01/2022 20:07

Yep, as everyone else has said she will nap in a cot there and you will consider the staff to have witchcraft/ninja skills!

ShirleyPhallus · 18/01/2022 20:10

Yeah nursery staff are utterly magic at baby sleep, I don’t know how they do it

KO2018 · 18/01/2022 20:14

Hah well I am still skeptical tbh but the vote seems to be unanimous so I will take everyone’s word for it. Will let you know how it goes….

You'll be surprised what your DD will do at nursery but not at home.
As others nursery workers are magic

MONSTERSALAD · 18/01/2022 20:27

Another vote for magic nursery workers. My DD started nursery at 1yo, having NEVER slept apart from on a caregiver, and her key worker said she was one of the easiest babies they'd ever had to get to sleep and that she was out like a light after a couple of nose strokes.

They have strange powers

Glendaruel · 18/01/2022 20:33

Our of interest, if anyone out there works in a nursery, can you take your magic power home or doesn't it work on your own children?

Namechangedforspooky · 18/01/2022 20:34

Neither of my children ever napped in a cot
Nursery used to point at the mat and say sleep and they did!
They are nap ninjas!

busyeatingbiscuits · 18/01/2022 20:36

It's not magic Grin Just routine and consistency. And yes it does work at home!
Katjolo · 18/01/2022 20:37

I echo what has been said. Nursery staff are sleep magicians!

Kitkatchunkyplease · 18/01/2022 20:41

I agree. They are magicians and will do all sorts with your child that you will not believe possible!

GiltEdges · 18/01/2022 20:42

Yup, just to add to the chorus. You will be AMAZED what nursery workers can do.!DS is still a godawful sleeper at home and he's 3 now, but as a baby he was utterly horrific, slept for no more than an hour at a time at night and never napped in the day. From literally day one at nursery they had him napping for two hour stretches twice a day in a cot. No idea how, but they did.

OpalOwl · 18/01/2022 20:45

Most nurseries will have cots on wheels for evacuation purposes. These can be rocked like prams. There is also magic and witchcraft involved Grin

Danikm151 · 18/01/2022 20:58

They are miracle workers.
My son is horrendous at naps and he has a nap at nursery.
He also won’t eat sandwiches at home but eats them there!
It’s a total betrayal 😂
