Leaking nappies every night

What am I doing wrong?!

My 6month old sleeps through the nice and has done since the early weeks. But only if I give him a 10pm dreamfeed, else he wakes hungry at 1amish.

I always change his nappy before the dreamfeed but when he wakes in the morning he is soaked! His nappy is full at the front, empty at the back and leaks up his back and side! He has a 6oz bottle for his dreamfeed but this happens every day!

Any advice, tips or ideas where I might be going wrong? Nappies fit him and he's ok the middle of the recommended weight (6.8kg).

This seems to happen wether I do the nappy tighter or looser...Willy is always pointing down. Frills pulled out.

Size up at night or double up- one nappy on top of another.

Showpan · 02/01/2022 07:05

Double nappies. Helped us, plus pointing penis in opposite direction to the leak.

It was so frustrating changing him 2-3 times a night and both those things stopped (mostly) leaks.

Why not try a different brand of Nappy? Some are far better at absorbing a greater quantity of fluid than others, maybe just use a better more expensive brand just for nighttime, as they are lightly to be thicker than say a supermarkets own brand.

If you can go up a size and nappy fits this can help. Or try a different brand.

You used to be able to buy a pad that you put inside for extra absorbency, can you still get them ?
I found pull ups were better at preventing leaks for some reason.

I've just seen actually that you can now get pull ups in smaller sizes so might get a pack and give them a go! Thank you x

Tried going home a size, even though he's smaller than the lower end of the weight scale for them, but leaked more than normal. Going to try a different brand...currently using pampers

Check that popper vests/baby grows aren't too tight - that can cause leaks too

Jobseeker19 · 02/01/2022 08:13

Put the nappy on backwards for sleep.

Dahlia5 · 02/01/2022 09:38

Regular Pampers frequently leak for my lo, but the pants version have never leaked, maybe try those and see if any better?

Liamsmumny · 02/01/2022 12:15

I started using terry nappies when my little one turned 2 years old and have never had any leaks in over a year

LakeShoreD · 02/01/2022 13:30

What pampers are you using? I’ve always found Active Fit, especially the nappy pants, best for overnight especially for wriggly sleepers. Baby dry and the so called overnight ones always leaked for my eldest so haven’t tried them with my second. That said, it’s also about the fit of the nappy relative to your baby so you might need to do some trial and error to find the best for you.

I swapped to pull up nappies very early because of this problem. Helped massively and we have never had a leak since.

User310 · 02/01/2022 13:43

The active fit pampers ones I think they are.

MustStopSnacking28 · 02/01/2022 13:46

We have had the same problem. Swapped to Tesco own nappies as they seem to have a larger waist band at the back and that helped but the real game changer was adding a night time ladies incontinence pad into his nappy overnight. No leak since and no rashes either, I think he was getting sore from the nappy being so full that it was rubbing his skin! I would recommend this option, I think I saw it suggested on here in the first place

DSGR · 02/01/2022 13:47

Swear by Pampers, never had any leaks

ladygindiva · 02/01/2022 13:49

My twins were always in a size bigger nappy than they were supposed to be and this stopped the leaks. If the leaks started again I sized up again and it stopped.

gamerchick · 02/01/2022 14:02

I never rated pampers. They're not very good nappies imo. Aldi ones are decent though. Or they were 14 years ago I also tended to stay at the lower end of weight for size.

cherrypie66 · 02/01/2022 14:08

Nappies are not fitting properly. They shouldn't leak try a size down if not a size up or change brands

Tittyfilarious81 · 02/01/2022 14:13

Pampers always seemed to leak I never had the problem with Aldi mamia nappies

iloveayankeecandle · 02/01/2022 14:13

Happened to us. We use pampers extra dry during the night now.

GiltEdges · 02/01/2022 14:25

Pampers nappy pants worked for us. I think they start at size 3.

ImustLearn2Cook · 04/01/2022 01:58

@TGLucie Did you end up trying the nappy pants? Did it work? I’ve found nappy pants better for overnight too, but only used them when dd was a toddler so I didn’t know that they were available for little babies.

I also used cloth re-usable nappies at home and overnight when dd was a baby and found that they never leaked. But they did add to my daily laundry a lot so it is a personal choice. I also used disposable nappies when out or when I was under the weather and needed to lighten the load a bit.

You know, it's weird but I've had that in reverse! We always seem to get leaks from mamia.
