How often do/did you clean floors with crawling baby?

Little one has started crawling.
Maybe I'm thinking into this too much but I can't help but think about what could be all over our floors (germ wise). We have a dog who is outside regularly so obviously that can't be avoided really and I'm certainly not washing his paws down every time he comes in.
Along with our shoes (we generally take them off at the front door and have slippers on in the house but may have to run into the kitchen for example after putting shoes on).
Did any of you bother paying this much attention to how 'clean' your floors were? What were your routines if you wouldn't mind sharing. Just don't want to be exhausting myself cleaning if I don't have to 😆

We have a strict no shoes policy in the house shoes only go on the mat by door

Hard floors mopped daily with antibacterial solution

Carpets hoovered daily and I antibacterial mist them each night before I go to bed

FoundlingFather · 26/11/2021 13:09

I sweep my floors every day and mop once a week or so. Only because my LO loves to pick up random floor bits and eat them, I wouldn't bother doing it so often otherwise. I believe a few germs are good for babies! This week he's eaten bits of dried mud, a leaf and carpet fluff, seems to enjoy them more than actual food

MotherOfDragon20 · 26/11/2021 13:10

We have hard wood floors and I’ll be honest it never really occurred to me to clean them any more regularly than I was already doing Blush. I was definitely more mindful of hoovering more regularly and having a good look on the floors at least a few times a day but that was more for choking hazards than germs. Mopped every few days and wash her hands regularly and before meals was all we done.

We have a no shoes in the house policy and we hoover every night and mop every other night, we have a dog hence the constant cleaning.

Tee20x · 26/11/2021 13:12

We also don't wear outdoor shoes in the house but sometimes it can't be avoided - already dressed to go out and forgotten something in the bedroom I'll quickly pop back in wearing shoes. Also when we come in with the buggy - it's parked in the hallway but again wheels have been out on the ground.

I sweep to make sure there are no choking hazards or bits of old food but don't clean my floors that regularly tbh - all hardwood.

I second the fact that some amount of germs are good.

Hoover every day usually. Mop once per week.
By the time Ds was crawling he was also eating so the kitchen floor needed wiping down with a cloth around table also after most meals as half the food ended up on the floor.

No dogs or shoes in house

Recycledblonde · 26/11/2021 13:17

I used to do them a couple times a week, we had a dog too. Used to prefer to scrub the child as I’d rather wash something I love! The 3 infants were rarely ill and never had a tummy bug so my slatternly behaviour obviously didn’t do them much harm. It was 25-30 years ago and thankfully anti bac stuff was only just becoming popular, soap and hot water was perfectly adequate.

daisypond · 26/11/2021 13:19

We didn’t do anything different. Hoovered maybe once a week - and probably less. Kitchen floor mopped less often. My DC are grown up now and I still don’t possibly have time to hoover and mop daily.

ToastCrumbsOnAPlate · 26/11/2021 13:19

We had a no shoes rule in the (gated) living room and cleaned the floor every evening.

Nazz10 · 26/11/2021 13:21

Thanks everyone. At the moment I'm hoovering and steam mopping once a day. Not sure how long my floors will last with the steam mop every day though. I'm a bit anxious about germs and stuff (getting better as time goes on though) so I'm not sure whether to do a simple mop every other day and steam mop twice a week instead

@FearBreedsCompliance what antibacterial solution do you use if you don't mind me asking?

@Tee20x yes the pram wheels give me anxiety. Don't really fancy cleaning them down every single time we come in from outside. We only have a small hallway so we have to bring it into the living room to prevent blocking the front door with the pram

Hoover every day because the dog sheds quite badly, mop a couple of times a week (wood and lino downstairs). Hoover once a week upstairs but have to look out for lego as it gets everywhere.
I often need to walk through the living room with my shoes on as it's between front door and kitchen.

LakeShoreD · 26/11/2021 13:31

I’ve outsourced. The robot hoover goes round once a day followed by his cousin the robot mop.

sashh · 26/11/2021 13:32

I usually use a vacuum but do crawling babies do a better job?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

BrilliantBetty · 26/11/2021 13:35

Twice a week I mop. Hoover daily. I would mop / steam daily too if I had a dog or people we're coming in wearing shoes.

AliasGrape · 26/11/2021 13:37

Less frequently than anyone who has posted so far! DD was and still is absolutely fine.

Tee20x · 26/11/2021 14:48

I wouldn't worry about the pram wheels too much tbh unless you've gone through dog shit and can physically see it or something. The only time I've ever wiped them down is when I went through a patch of mud.

DD is almost 11 months now and has never been ill or had a tummy bug or anything from any germs picked up. Obviously she's had colds and stuff but that's been from other family members haha.

Change123today · 26/11/2021 15:07

I have a robot hoover and mop… that gets done everyday. But big hoover once a week. The robot hoover keeps the dog and cat hair at least more controlled!

FearBreedsCompliance · 26/11/2021 16:42

@Nazz10 i use a spray called sterizar (I got it off Amazon in bulk about 18 m ago) for the hard floors and for my carpet I most with the dettol in the big can.
I also use clinell wipes for the floor if I’m in a hurry

SamanthaVimes · 26/11/2021 18:47

We hoover a couple of times a week and don’t have shoes in the house. Unless the cats bring us a present, that’s when the antibac comes out Envy

Bobholll · 26/11/2021 18:53

We have a robot hoover who goes round daily but it’s not a very deep clean. Gets up the crumbs & cat hair. I regular mop maybe every other week but if the floor looks clean, I don’t bother! We don’t have shoes on in the house at all but I do sometimes run through to grab something with my shoes on..

Dirt is fine. Helps their immune system. 😂

Tonkerbea · 26/11/2021 19:01

I always think these threads attract people at the super-tidy end of the scale as they're quite happy to divulge their habits, but it's a totally skewed perspective.

I am not very tidy, but I try.

I hoover perhaps once, twice a week. I aim to mop once a week, sometimes once a fortnight if life busy, but spot clean in between. Hard floors downstairs, no pets, shoes off at the door. DC no longer crawling though!

PanicBuyingSprouts · 26/11/2021 19:12

You have to clean the floors if they're crawling?

EducatingArti · 26/11/2021 19:15

I don't think I've ever cleaned a floor with a crawling baby. I usually use a mop although I guess if you tied cloths to their knees it might be a good alternative to s robot cleaner!

DappledThings · 26/11/2021 19:39

Sweep/hoover once a week. Mop or steam once a month maybe. I dunno, I never really had a routine.

They also crawled round the floors at church, in cafes, at playgroups and outside. Doubt any of those floors were super clean.

User0ne · 26/11/2021 19:42

😂 I'm currently on crawling dc3. Hardwood floors, get hoovered once a week or twice if really minging. Mopped maybe monthly in summer, a bit more often now as it's muddier but definitely not fortnightly. Spot swept and wiped under the table 3 times a day - he's a messy eater.
