still not crawling

My 7.5 month old DS has been fixated on trying to crawl since he was 2 months old but he’s still not crawling. He can roll both ways and reach for toys from a sitting position, but he can’t get onto all fours and he can’t bum shuffle or belly crawl or pivot. It’s difficult to get the housework done because he always wants some toy that’s out of reach and goes absolutely berserk trying to get to it so I constantly have to run back and forth to hand him toys.

He has been able to stand with support since he was 6 weeks old and he’s been early with all his other milestones. I don’t know if his size is holding him back; he’s 99th centile for height and between the 75th and 91st centiles for weight and he wears 12-18 month clothing.

7,5 months is early for crawling in my opinion. I've had 4; 3 of them crawled around 10/11 months old and 1 only ever bum shuffled. Give him time! They're an absolute menace when they get on the move!

Santaischeckinglists · 20/11/2021 22:38

All dc are different op. One of my ds's walked at 9 months. His ds walked at 7 months.
Ome of my ds didn't walk until 15 months.
Stop worrying op.

Twizbe · 20/11/2021 22:38

Try not to worry about it. Both mine crawled at 11 months. Both took their time to walk as well.

This is all very normal and nothing to worry about.

Neither of mine crawled until at least 9 months & walked at 12 - I thought that was within normal expectations (& now at 12 and 18 years old they are both fine!)

MartyHart · 20/11/2021 22:45

Some kids don't crawl at all.

Timeturnerplease · 21/11/2021 05:47

I feel your pain OP. DD1 sat independently at 5 months and was desperate to move from then on, but the moment she reached forward and fell on her tummy she would projectile puke (reflux baby). She was ANGRY from 5-10 months until she could pull up to standing and cruise. My MIL displayed enviable patience with this when I went back to work at 9 months. DD2 not even thinking of rolling yet at 3.5 months so likely to be similar.

Fingers crossed it resolves itself soon.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/11/2021 05:54

7.5m is no age at all!

DD1 didn’t crawl until around 9m and then took her first steps just before her 1st birthday. She sat up unaided at around 6m.

DD2 sat up at 4m and crawled at 6m. She’d been trying to crawl for over a month before she finally did it. I bribed her with something she really wanted - my phone with the front camera on so she could see herself. She took her first steps at 8m but walking started properly at 10m.

Babies are all different and do things in their own frustrating ways.

4amstarts · 21/11/2021 06:24

I'm not sure about the whole standing with support thing from 6 weeks - his muscles just wouldn't have been developed enough for that and it's actually probably quite dangerous

My twins were 6 weeks premature - the bigger one was crawling at 9 months my little one looks like it will be more like 11 months

RedwineforSantaplease · 21/11/2021 06:30

7.5mo would still be on the early side, he'll get on the move at some point.

It’s difficult to get the housework done
You can't get anything done once they can crawl because they gravitate towards danger at every turn so I'd make the most of it now.

AliceW89 · 21/11/2021 08:19

DS never crawled. He was very, very angry about it, until he started cruising at ~11 months before finally walking at 15 months. I kind of knew by about 9 or 10 months he was never going to crawl - he found being on his tummy completely intolerable and much preferred being upright. I’d say 7.5 months is still too early to tell.

I’ve never really been able to get anything done with DS. When he was immobile he was too furious and needed so much calming. Now he’s mobile I need eyes everywhere. Housework is naps and nights here.

ThirdElephant · 21/11/2021 08:26

Yeah, you imagine that once they're crawling they'll be happier and it'll be easier to get things done. This is wrong- they just want to be on the move all the time and it gets even harder to get anything done!

FWIW, my DC were both a similar size (91st and 99th centiles, 2/3 clothing sizes ahead), and both commando crawling by 7 months, properly crawling by 8 months. I don't think his size should hold him back. Just try and be patient, tough as it is.

Heruka · 21/11/2021 08:26

I think this is early. I’m sure mine were both 8 months and that was earlier than some peers. Hell get there!!

Mammma91 · 21/11/2021 08:29

Don’t worry just yet OP - they get so frustrated when trying to crawl/walk/talk. My ds is 2.5 and not talking yet, but he hits me now out of frustration.
My DS didn’t crawl until i think almost 10 months old - and was walking at 15 months. They get their at there own pace. X

Also - crawling stage is 100% harder than the walking stage! I don’t know why, but by god he got into everything when he was crawling around!

TulipsGarden · 21/11/2021 08:29

7.5 months would be quite early. Mine was 9/10 months, walked at 14, seemed about average within our NCT.

You'll need a playpen once he is on the move...

clarkkentsglasses · 21/11/2021 08:31

My DS didn't crawl at all.

Abetes · 21/11/2021 08:35

My dd started crawling at 5m. She was happy but it was a complete nightmare and she had to be watched all the time.

YukoandHiro · 21/11/2021 08:39

My eldest didn't crawl til 11 months, walk til 20 months and jump til she was 3. She's totally fine, just a little slower than the average on gross motor (she's 4 and in reception and still struggles with self dressing, although she's finally fine with getting undressed)

Leafblower14 · 21/11/2021 08:41

Mine crawled at 16 months and walked at 26 months, will be interesting this time round to see what age my daughter does stuff lol

TeddyBeans · 21/11/2021 08:44

DS started crawling around 11 months and walking around 15 months

mynameiscalypso · 21/11/2021 08:44

Does he have a big head? DS definitely struggled with crawling because of his giant head (my DM always says that I never crawled because I was too fat and didn't have the strength to life my giant tummy off the floor)

Parky04 · 21/11/2021 08:47

A friends DS didn't crawl and only started to walk at 2 1/2 (bum shuffled everywhere). He is now 18 and can run the 100 metres in 10.7 seconds!

Jujujuly · 21/11/2021 08:47

8 months is about average from all the (many!) babies ive known, but crawling isn’t even a milestone so not something to get worked up about.

My daughter crawled at 6 months, first steps at 11 months, but didn’t walk properly/full time until 13 months. My son crawled at 8 months, first steps at 12 months and was walking properly within days. They’re all different.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 21/11/2021 08:50

7.5 months is early to crawl. Why rush him? He will get there in his own time.

And babies aren't meant to weight-bear at 6 weeks.

Chr1stmasCarole · 21/11/2021 08:54

It's too early to worry about this but also be careful what you wish for. If you think getting housework done is difficult now, wait until the baby is crawling...... it gets trickier!!

DollyPartonisabeauty · 21/11/2021 09:18

My son crawled at an early age and was walking at 9 months.

My husband, my daughter and I never crawled.

My daughter still wasn’t crawling or bum shuffling or moving anywhere at her 12 month check. She was busy developing in other areas.

At 14 months she just got up and walked. She has never had any other “delays “ and is now a very active sporty talented dancer.

Hope this reassures you.
