We're lucky enough to be on holiday. It’s such a beautiful place by the sea and amazing pool with loads of entertainment for the kids. Big restaurant with lovely local food on offer.

So far my one year old has played with rocks, and eaten baked beans.

We took DGS (3) to a lovely zoo. I asked him what he’d liked best, expecting him to say lions, tigers, elephants or whatever. No, what he enjoyed most was watching the ants crawling over a sweet that he’d dropped ... we live in a hot country with millions of ants in our garden Confused

BlowDryRat · 29/08/2021 13:03

It was busy. She was at the edge of the pond looking at the fish and turtles and this guy just shoved his way past her, knocking her in Angry Luckily he had amazing reflexes and grabbed her as she fell and he was also very apologetic, but really!

I took DS to Lough Key forest park last week. Boats, fishing, Zipline, historic tunnels and ruins.

The next day my SIL said "So you went to Lough Key! Tell me about it!" and he said "What? Where? No. Haven't been there."

On prompting, the only thing he remembers is that 120 people were killed in a lightning strike on Castle Island in the 12th century. And that our pass didn't work when we were leaving the car park, so we caused massive delays.

Today I'm just taking him and his friend to the park in Chingford and saving myself the effort and expense.

We took ours to Australia to visit cousins when they were young. The four year old remembers only one thing. The picture of a monster on the pillowcase.

DD went to a zoo with school, when I asked what animals she had seen, only one answer ‘a wasp’.

RubyFowler · 29/08/2021 13:18

My DS 13 described in great detail the burrito he had at Eden Project to his grandparents when they asked him to tell them about our holiday to Cornwall.

Knitwit101 · 29/08/2021 13:19

My 9 yr old went on a school trip to an amazing forest adventure park he'd been desperate to go to for ages. The only thing he wanted to talk about that night was that every seat on the bus had its own phone charging socket. He doesn't even have a phone.

This is my favourite so far Grin

I took my Brownies to London. We did loads of exciting things, but when they wrote about their trip to thank the Mayor for the grant that enabled us to go, the squirrels in Green Park featured very heavily.

We might have been from quite a poor area, but we had many many squirrels of our own.

Browniegal13 · 29/08/2021 13:22

I took my daughter for a weekend away at the seaside. The best bit … the toilets in sainsburys as the lights came on automatically!

Carboncheque · 29/08/2021 13:32

My mother’s a retired teacher. She went with a yr4 class on a school visit to the safari park. It was followed by the usual writing exercise about what they’d seen and done. Almost every account was about how ‘when we were eating our lunch a pigeon pooed on Claire.’

SoupDragon · 29/08/2021 13:35

I had plans to wean DD on freshly picked Bananas when on holiday in the Caribbean. She spent two weeks shovelling sand in her mouth and refused to eat any actual food.

snowgirl1 · 29/08/2021 13:37

We took DD to Greece when she was 3 or 4 - she went on sailing boats, speed boats, floated on windsurfers, fed wild tortoises lettuce... the list goes on. What did she like best about the holiday when asked? The wardrobe 😆 - it was one with sliding doors; she could go in on one side and pop out the other. Oh, and the pancakes for breakfast.

OnlyFlans · 29/08/2021 13:39

Took DS to New York age 11. His main memory is the bagels we had for breakfast.

🙄

When visiting my sister in Canada some years ago, we went on a day trip to Niagara Falls. On the way there we stopped at a car wash.

When asked later what we did that day, my 6 year old DD and her cousin talked excitedly about having gone to the car wash!

Pumpkinstace · 29/08/2021 13:42

Yep, spent £££ taking them to a theme park and all they wanted to do was play on the play park you can find for free in almost every town.

VienneseWhirligig · 29/08/2021 13:43

My DS doesn't remember going to Malta when he was 2, and only remembers Tunisia at 5 because the camel licked his finger as it took food off him. He doesn't remember the catamaran where he lay on a net over the open sea to watch dolphins swimming, the camel trek where he led the group on a donkey before going on the camel DH was riding, the trip to the Sahara and the Star Wars set, the beautiful beach. None of it. Just being licked by a camel Grin

We took my friends 4 year old on a day out at a well known local attraction on the drive there we saw a squashed hedgehog on the road. All day she asked if we would see the squashed hedgehog on the way home!

janj2301 · 29/08/2021 14:03

Daughter, now 40, still remembers the tigers mating at Woburn.

thanksamillion · 29/08/2021 14:03

When my 3 were younger we did an epic road trip across Europe visiting castles, historic cities, boat trips etc. The only thing they remember is that the apartment in Budapest had a bed on a kind of mezzanine level above the bathroom.

twinguilt · 29/08/2021 14:06

My parents took my sibling and I to the Grand Canyon when I was 7. As an adult now I look at it and marvel at it, but as a 7 year old, all I could tell you about was the chipmunks running around the coach park...🤦‍♀️

Sounds like my DS. We've done lots of London trips over the years, seen all the landmarks, done some very cool things and if you ever ask him what he likes about London, he'll tell you about the halloumi burger he had in Borough Market in 2015
ShippingNews · 29/08/2021 14:11

When I was 8 my parents took us on a cruise around the world. Stopped at multiple interesting ports in many exotic countries.

I remember nothing except that I learned how to play Scrabble in the games room, and how to crochet in the Kids Club.
