Baby will only eat crisps

Really not what I thought would happen when weaning. Six weeks in and he won’t eat anything (he is seven months.)

I have tried purées and non purées, pouches, just putting food in front of him, giving him the spoon (he throws it on the floor!) - he just won’t eat.

But he will eat melty puffs. Sad

Can anyone give me some pointers - I’m really worried.

If it helps OP my brother wasn’t weaned until 9 months. He’s about 6 Ft 2 now as a grown man.
I agree wirbt he posters who say stop the weaning for a couple of weeks.

@FizzingWhizzbee123

Just to add - please don’t wean in a Bumbo!

I’ve seen that suggestion several times but it’s not safe. Aside from just being bad for baby’s posture, they are not safe for eating in. Bumbo seats curve baby’s spine and put them in a position that they can’t gag safely when eating.

If you get a floor seat, please get one which has a flat seat, keeps the back straight and doesn’t tip baby’s knees above the hips. There’s a few safe seats out there, you just need to research it.

Shock. I did this, sometimes...

The advice / information on this is utter shite.

The pressure there is to not give solids til 6 months old, makes you assume that theres something wrong with you / them if they don't eat things.

DS wouldn't do purees. Just wouldn't happen. We only managed to get him to willingly eat custard.

The stress of it was horrific.

In the end he skipped the slop and when straight to finger food and eventually started eating at 10 months. Still wouldn't (and still doesn't) touch fruit or veg willingly unless disguised. He's 6.

Stop worrying. Forget about it. Try again in 2 or 3 weeks. As long as they are getting enough milk its all that matters.

Can I pick up on a couple of things that have stood out in your posts @reallybloodytired?

You mention that you can’t use the dining room as your DH is WFH? Can he move somewhere else, at least for lunchtimes?

Also, you said about being ‘pushed’ to use formula? Are you talking about health professionals or family?

You’d much prefer laminate floors instead of carpet for practicality. Can you not change the carpets because you’re renting or does your DH not want to?

Is your baby breastfed? If so I'd be less concerned as there's still a lot of good nutrients in breastmilk. If formula fed I'd try and keep them hungry and introduce food in a fun way , so just for texture , different tastes etc. They are still very young but good to get used to different tastes etc. In general breastfed babies get more variety of tastes from breast milk vs formula which is the same taste.

My oldest is nearly 3 and he still loves his melty puffs 😅

@Drainedagain2 but they get very little iron which is essential when little. My childs iron levels didn't sort themselves out until he was 15 months. Prior to that he was anaemic. An iron rich diet and prior to that iron supplements sorted that, but it was the food that actually had more effect

My little one was the same. He would spit everything out and did so until about 9 /10 months ole. He's now nearly 2 and doesn't stop eating (helps himself to snacks much to our dislike!).

All you can do is keep offering and don't worry when he refuses. They say with babies that age it's all about exploiting and exposure. Is just keep at it and relax
