In regards to choking (not health/ sugar) what age would you let your child eat haribo

I took my son to get his haircut today. He is 2 next week. The barber bribed him with a pack of haribo. He has clung onto them ever since.

I normally wouldn't allow him to eat them, I'm not fussy about the health benefit but would be worried he would choke.

Can anyone advise me? Have you let your 2 year olds eat sweets like that and is it ok?

Though I have 2 little cousins who are 2 and 2.5 who eat hair I with no problems chewing etc so maybe I’m being over protective!

I let my 2.5 year old have a couple of haribo last week but I selected them carefully (bear/bottle shaped ones).

He's good at chewing... Although I still cut grapes and tomatoes. DC1 was definitely getting them at school nursery when she was 3

I take a snack to the hairdresser for DS or his current favourite toy, I always say no thank you to the sweets and lollies. They're terrible for teeth nevermind the choking hazard

I wouldn’t give them whole at 2. Could you cut them up into small pieces?

What's the choking hazard if they're tiny ones, like the little bear ones?

I'm considering giving my 2yo the vitamin gummy my 4yo has because I can't bear giving him the syrup in a cup any more as it goes everywhere but his mouth. They say they're for 3yrs plus - would cutting them it in half make it ok?

Swap for a packet of chocolate buttons

Being small doesn't make it less of a choking hazard - small items can still block the airway. Peanuts are smaller than mini haribo but are considered a choking hazard.

Vitamin gummies have specific strength for different ages so I'd ask your health visitor if it's suitable.

I'd say age 5 but even then I'd encourage them to swap them for some chocolate. Lollies I'm tempted to ban, I've seen an 8 year old have the whole thing come off the stick and choke on it.
