Will I need a double buggy?

Just looking for advice from people with the same age gap between siblings I'll have.

I have 2.5 year old, he will be 3 in December. And I have a little girl due middle of August. Is it worth getting a double buggy or shall I not bother?

Jack only uses his stroller if I need to get him to nursery fast or if it's more convenient for me for him to be in his stroller, he'd happy walk anywhere.

I've got the new baby a pram, I don't know wether to just get a buggy board for Jack? Double buggy's are sooooo expensive and they're huge I dont wanna get one if it won't get used and I'm struggling to find one that will be small enough for a newborn but big enough for a nearly 3 year old.

Advice?

I shouldn't say small enough for a newborn I mean suitable for a newborn? If you get what I mean? They all seem to be for older babies

I would just get Jack a scooter.

It sounds to me like you could manage with a buggy board

I'm due in august with DS2 and DS1 will be 22 months, we've used his pram about twice in the last 4 months he's really good walking and holding our hands.

I was kindly given a second hand doubly buggy but it's not suitable for a newborn.

I was hoping to use a pram for the new baby and see how DS1 can cope with walking, we really stay relatively local and do a lot of park trips.

But I'm following this thread because I'm not sure if I should get a newborn suitable double buggy but it's a lot of money when DS1 barely uses his pram as it is

Sorry for the long rambling unhelpful post OP

Buggy board. Just means you can keep him safe on a busy road or get somewhere fast when you need to but doesn't get in the way too much.

Spied · 24/06/2021 09:10

I needed one but there's only 18montgs between my dc.
If your older child is almost 3 I'd say a buggy board would suffice.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/06/2021 09:11

@Ragoo do you drive? I don't. We are having a 21 month age gap and i have bougjt a pram which converts single to double. Our one year old is not a good walker and i have school runs to do etc plus i was thinking of when the weather is bad.

MindyStClaire · 24/06/2021 09:15

If you don't go long distances, you might get away with a buggy board and scooter. Ours are 3 and 1, we use the double at weekends for walks that are too long for the three year old. Sometimes she just goes in it for the walk home from the park with a snack. We're gently trying to reduce her dependence on it but it's not a big deal.

Consider how often it would be a problem if he just refused to walk one day. That will be your answer!

Another thing you might consider is chucking a carrier in the basket of the buggy, then the 3 year old could go in the buggy and the baby in the carrier in case of emergency.

Check whether a double out n about or baby jogger would be worth picking up second hand to get you through the first few months and then sell on again after.

3years 3 months between mine and DS was still napping in the buggy.I had single first and when tired,he crawled in the basket underneath and slept there ( basket was huge though).Depends on the child and how often you are walking.I was walking everywhere, frequent days out so it was useful to have double one when he was tired.

ShinyGreenElephant · 24/06/2021 09:25

Do you drive? Does he ever nap in the buggy? Mines been absolutely invaluable but our gap is smaller and my 2yo still naps every day. We have the bugaboo donkey which is brilliant but was quite expensive and I'm always getting stuck in doorways

SoloMotherofFour · 24/06/2021 09:32

With a 2.5 year age gap, toddler just walked everywhere. 2 year age gap I got a buggy board.
Walked everywhere.

Graco stadium duo is very unfashionable (I do not care personally haha) but has lovely roomy seats, sounds like it would fit the bill. But it doesn't sound like you need one. Probably a buggy board at most.

Topjoe19 · 24/06/2021 10:59

Buggy board with a saddle was fantastic for me with a 2 year gap. Although there were times I wished I had a double buggy to strap the toddler in! But at least with the saddle I knew she had a seat when tired. And then we moved on to a scooter when she was 3 and a bit.

Jacky209990 · 25/06/2021 04:10

I have a 9 week old and 2.5 year old. Didn't have a pram for first few weeks and it was a nightmare. 2.5 year old is a really good walker but suddenly wanted to be picked up on walks. Going to the shops was hard, has she just tried to grab everything. I bought a second hand phil and teds, it's heavy but can be used as a single. Dd1 has actually used it quite a few times.

grey12 · 25/06/2021 04:21

For the firsr few months yoy can carey the baby in a sling.

He's getting a to the age where he doesn't need the pushchair. My 4yo doesn't use the pushchair when we go to the park or the mall, she'll walk. But then I have a 3yo and a little baby, eldest needs to grow up Grin even the 3 yo, it's mainly to avoid her touching everything when we go out.

grey12 · 25/06/2021 04:24

Btw I got the Joie double pushchair. It's quite cheap and cheerful. Awkward to put things in the basket but besides than it has been good

Caspianberg · 25/06/2021 07:23

Could you get a secondhand one? Then if it’s just used infrequently for 6+ months it’s not a problem and you can resell afterwards.

I think I would like one. Not for everyday maybe, but those days when 2 year old isn’t feeling 100%, or it’s pouring with rain, or you need to contain for safety.

Roselilly36 · 25/06/2021 08:08

Unsure, I had a double mountain buggy, but DS1 was only 21mths when DS2 arrives. It was worth every penny, made my life much easier. Perhaps wait till baby arrives and then see how you feel OP.

PoppenhuisStories · 25/06/2021 08:15

I didn’t bother in the same situation as you and am glad I didn’t. As a pp mentioned, it’s good to have a sling for the baby as a back up in case you really need to put the toddler in the pram for some reason but I don’t think I ever needed it, it was more for my own peace of mind. I always need a plan b! I found even when I needed to contain the toddler, they still stood on the buggy board with no issues.

grey12 · 25/06/2021 13:26

Oh just came to me, I didn't get the double until DC2 was over 6months. They had 18months between them.

I used the car to go everywhere, first of all. Otherwise I used the sling or if I was with DH, one child could be carried if needed

DeltaVariant · 25/06/2021 13:29

Depends on the child. My DE is hypermobile and at nearly 4 still requests time in the toddler carrier we use but we walk 5-10 miles a day. I have a P&T double I use as an off roader which I set up as double when taking a friends DD out with me on long walks. She is 4 and not used to long walks and ends up in the buggy.

If you're in and out of a car rather than walking distance it's probably not necessary to double.

mimofboy2 · 25/06/2021 18:26

I have a 2 and a half year gap ds1 great walker but went for a double buggy (out and about) and have found it really useful. Sometimes ds1 doesn't want to walk especially when the baby is in the buggy. Also if I need to keep ds1 in one place it's very useful.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 25/06/2021 18:36

I bought a second hand city mini, we've used it for nearly a year and are just graduating to a buggy board. DS is 4! but we walk miles

RugratMum · 25/06/2021 18:40

Buggy board. If toddler wants the buggy, just pop the baby into a sling.

LittleBearPad · 25/06/2021 18:42

I wouldn’t bother.

Get a buggy board and a sling and you’ll be fine.

Absy · 25/06/2021 18:45

We have a 20 month age gap between our two. We decided to see how it went. In the end we just got a buggy board or (most of the time) the baby was in a carrier and the toddler in the buggy. Occasionally I think it would have been helpful but they are really clumsy. That being said, if i had known about this www.vidiamo.com/products/la-poussette-limo I maybe would have gone for it.
