charmkin · 16/11/2007 11:26

i've done that
except with straps on but carseat not strapped onto carseat

Marina · 16/11/2007 11:30

I think there is probably not a person posting on Mn who has not done one or both of the following once in their lives:

  • carefully strapped baby into Group 0 seat and driven off with the seat and baby not secured by the seatbelt
  • what you did, forgotten to strap in the baby after carefully attaching the seatbelt

Rear-facing seats for babies do help with safety, I am sure your baby is fine

Please don't feel guilty you poor thing - save it for when the little rascal has his first tumble down the stairs or rolls off a bed or sofa. These are incredibly common and understandable oversights, and happen to a LOT of parents

MamaG · 16/11/2007 11:31

bumbly I did it once - never did it again, and I'm sure you won't either

please don't beat yourself up over it

I did that. We drove all the way back from Legoland in Windsor to Wimbledon.

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 · 16/11/2007 11:32

ive done this too (a couple of times) . Dont beat yourself up about it, luckily he's absolutely fine so try not to dwell on it.

Marina · 16/11/2007 11:32

My trip of shame was home from Bluewater with an NCT friend and we were both so bombed from lack of sleep that she had done straps and no belt, and I had done belt and no straps

gscrym · 16/11/2007 11:33

I carefully strapped DS into his chair then left it sitting on the kitchen floor. I realised just as me and DH drove off in separate cars.

MadLabOwner · 16/11/2007 11:35

One of my friends did the same with her baby at around 10 months old, but the poor baby tumbled out and fell under the seat. Please stop worrying! If your baby wasn't happy he would have let you know

MerryAnnSinglemas · 16/11/2007 11:36

don't beat yourself up - to my horror I did this a few times too

justaphase · 16/11/2007 11:37

I did this... but the baby was in the seat on the back of my bike!!!

SoupDragon · 16/11/2007 11:48

I did it 2 mornings running with BabyDragon recently. And I've done it a few times with both DSs too.

Habbibu · 16/11/2007 11:50

Bumbly, I'd been walking with baby in backpack for ages before realising she wasn't strapped in... It does give you such a sick feeling... gscrym, I guess your little one was at least strapped in!

Lulumama · 16/11/2007 11:51

you have not hurt him, the fact he was asleep is good !

of course you can live with yourself ! it is not the worst mistake ever, we have all done it

DH dropped our DS on the floor when he was a few weeks old, and he is perfectly fine...babies are actually a lot more robust than they look

please try not to be so hard on yourself

if you need more reassurance, give NHS direct a call, but i am sure you have nothing to worry about

chisigirl · 16/11/2007 11:54

If that's the worst mistake you've ever made with your baby, you're really doing a fantastic job!

Dinosaur · 16/11/2007 11:58

I let DS1 roll off a bed when he was a few months old. Felt absolutely dreadful, but he survived (and when I rang the out of hours doctors service, they said dont' worry, it happens to most of us, and he will fall down the stairs too in due course).

chisigirl · 16/11/2007 11:58

If that's the worst mistake you've ever made with your baby, you're really doing a fantastic job! honest.

chisigirl · 16/11/2007 12:05

oops, double post. oh the shame.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2007 13:34

Actually, Bumbly, if you like I can post a long list of crp things I have done to my children over the last 8.5 years You're just starting out on this long journey of guilt filled days, a few years into the future you'll be posting "Oh, he'll be fine*, I did XYZ to my child(ren)..." on a similar thread
