DS1 pulled DD1 off the kitchen work surface while she was in her bouncy chair once yes, I know they're not supposed to be left on kitchen ork surfaces...)

Have also forgotten to do seatbelts up.

And buggy straps....

MingMingtheWonderPet · 16/11/2007 20:32

bohemianbint - I swallowed the spring from a peg once when I was little. Had to be kept in hospital and had my poo checked to wait until I passed it (lovely)
Just goes to show, out parents were no better or worse than we are!

Hi Bumbly,
Just wanted to say that although most post are light in tone we all have the luxury of knowing the mistakes we made had no after effects. Had we done this today, like you have we would have been wracked with doubt and guilt. As you can see from the number of posts children everyday are sliding around car interiors, banging their heads, being sliced by zips and generally having their edges knocked off and they are all fine.

(The DS I spoke of so lovingly earlier threw a pair of shoes at his 1 week old cousin a few weeks ago and hit him on the head and I'm still worrying about it and asking questions about his development. Irrational I know but....)

Glad these posts are making you feel better Bumbly, it's SO horrible to feel guilty about your DCs (although I'm sure we've all got a lifetime of that to come!).

My DS is 2 and lots of the things on here have happened to him - the worst being trapping his fingers in a door which I'd shut really firmly, blood everywere, trip to A&E etc, thought I'd broken his hand (hadn't, it was just his nail).

It's funny but the physical side of things doesn't worry me too much at all, kids are incredibly tough. What does keep coming back to me is the time when he was just a few weeks old and had been crying all evening. DH had him for a minute to give me a chance to eat something, but then DS started crying again so DH tried to pass him back to me. I just snapped 'I don't want him!'. Felt so awful and ashamed of my reaction. I know he's had two years of (hopefully) good and loving mothering since then, but think that will haunt me forever!

Forgot to strap DS1 into his buggy once so as I tilted it to go out the front door, he fell out onto the pavement

Made DS1 and dd1 bleed when clipping their fingernails.

Have forgotten to strap the kids on a few occassions as well.

dd666 · 17/11/2007 00:55

he didnt get hurt so all was well not worth worrying about you will dbl check from now on! iv bashed dd's head so many times cant count on one hand and had the carseat not strapped in right before or another time not tightened the straps

susiecutiemincepies · 17/11/2007 01:24

*Cut Dd's finger tip when clipping nails t 3 weeks old.. lots of blood.
*`got into bed with Dd already in it, ( in hotel) and mattress springy.. dd sprung really high and landed on the floor with a huge thump.
*Fell asleep feeding her, sitting upright, and she fell out of arms, with a bump on the floor.
*Watched helplessly as Dd crawled very fast off the end of bed onto head ( did get concussion ) but i knew i couldnt have stopped her.
*Rolled off the other side of bed ( when coudlnt roll yet )
see a theme? thats why we now have safety rails on both sides of bed... guess what? dd stood up holding onto rails fell over the top luckily onto huge pile of pillows

your LO will be fine Bumbly. really, please dont worry

Done most of the above Our worst moment ever was when I was fixing the new spark plugs on my very heavy old motorbike, which was on a 'spring stand' ie the stand springs up when you rock the bike away from it.
I went in to get a spanner, ds was 1 and trotted out the gate, climbed up said motorbike and was sat on the seat when I returned. The idea of what could have happened had it rocked slightly will never leave me.

Horrific.

I believe in guardian angels now.

Columbia · 17/11/2007 06:01

Oh and he also fell head first in a bucket around that time, when I was on the phone. It only had a few inches of water in it but still.

Please don't phone social services!

Columbia · 17/11/2007 06:02

...am sitting here rocking and squirming as I type that first post...I will never forget.

systemsaddict · 17/11/2007 07:07

On a long (7 hour) drive back from my mum's house ds was OK to start off with but after a rest stop got increasingly screamy. I drive, so dp was trying everything to reassure him - distraction, food, drinks - all helped for a few minutes but the screams just got worse and worse. Eventually (and this is a LONG eventually - we were just desperate to get home) we stopped again and got him out of the car seat to find we'd strapped him in ON TOP of one of his stacking blocks which had been digging into his back for HOURS.

Have also recently done the cough in the night - pool of sick in the morning one - twice!!

meglet · 17/11/2007 09:18

bumbly i've done it too, DS not strapped in car seat, although seat belted into car. realised what i'd done when he seemed to be wiggling about in the mirror.

I'm sure your DS will be ok. Babies are quite sturdy.

You could get one of those rear view mirrors for babies so you can see what he's doing. Although if you're anything like me you'll double and triple check your ds every time he goes in the car now!
