Present ideas for a 5 year old girl

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/05/2021 20:20

My daughter turns 5 soon and I'm really struggling with birthday present ideas!

She has asked for a mermaid costume, a microphone (which frankly she doesn't need and might not get 😂) and an outfit for her our generation doll

Struggling for ideas for a main present but don't have to get her one, could stick with smaller gifts. She already has a bike and a scooter and doesn't really need anything. Don't want to spoil her too much and am reluctant to buy too much plastic and tat.

So....those with 5-7 year olds, any ideas for great presents for this age group? What are your children's favourite toys? What do they play with the most?

Thanks :)

Barbie Dream House. I resisted, but she loves it!

Oh gosh, she has mentioned these and drew a very detailed picture of one when asked to draw her dream house at school!!! Maybe one day......not quite ready yet!

Jigsaws, polly pocket, handbag or purse, new lunch bag for school, Lego. We don't normally do 'main' presents yet because then you've got the pressure to outdo it every year.

My DD really liked OSMO, great if you have an iPad. You can get a lot of the stuff 2bd hand on Ebay. It's fun and educational.

Undersnatch · 08/05/2021 20:31

My 5yr old dd got this for Xmas and honestly it’s part of the family, gets dragged downstairs and into the garden daily and is so much loved! Got it on eBay for £40. She also has a giant stuffed unicorn she dearly loves.

Sulvainian families? Only if your child is into imaginative play with toy though.

Playmobil fairy water garden?

Barbies and clothes

Fun/sparkley head bands, bobbles and clip

Aqua beads?

Make your own jewellery sets ?

Nice paints and pens esp gel pens

Lego

Polly pockets

Marcydarcy7867 · 08/05/2021 20:32

MamaWeasel · 08/05/2021 20:33

A mermaid tail blanket

mizzles · 08/05/2021 20:33

How about a ukulele? You can get decent starter ones online for £20 or so, plus a book to help her learn chords. I'm sure there are kids' tutorials online too. Great way to start learning about music (plus they are super fun to play, so you might even find you like playing it too!).

Dd is 5 and really like Hama beads

MeadowHay · 08/05/2021 20:34

My niece is about to turn 6, for her 5th birthday her parents told us she wanted board games so we got her Buckeroo and possibly Hungry Hippos? Games like that. For this birthday she wants Lego dots.

Ostryga · 08/05/2021 20:35

I got Dd a Toniebox which is adored. The little characters which are the ‘cd’s’ as such are lovely, and she really likes being able to pick out the music/stories etc she wants. Big fans!

Chocolategirl19791 · 08/05/2021 20:35

DD was 5 today. She got (from us and family) Barbie limo (we already have the dream house from Christmas which has been so worth the investment), vtech kidi superstar DJ/microphone, Lego friends and Disney Lego, Baking set, paw patrol bits, sprinkler thing for the paddling pool. Some clothes, t shirts with anything sparkly on wee a big hit

Lego
Sylvania families
Both have lasted for years in our house. From 4-10...

NannyR · 08/05/2021 20:38

A tin of mid-range watercolour paints and some nice brushes (not expensive artist ones, but not cheap toy ones either - I've bought these in The Range before).

Umberellatheweatha · 08/05/2021 20:38

Tbh at her age, stickers and colouring in stuff got way more use than most stuff that was way more pricey.

A sticker maker maybe? So she can colour in/draw her own cartoons and stick them on things. They were something like 10-20 quid last year in argos.

EcoCustard · 08/05/2021 20:39

Dd5 loves her playmobil pony farm and hospital, Lego dots is very much enjoyed too. Also plays with her interactive globe a lot.

Ilovemaisie · 08/05/2021 20:41

She wants 3 things. Get those 3 things or if you really don't want the microphone get 2 outfits for her doll. That's what she has asked for - why get something else.
You could add something like a mermaid colouring book or stickers to go with the mermaid outfit.

Following for extra ideas! PFB used up all of my good ideas, so for DD2's 5th next month she is getting more to add to existing collections, plus sizing up her scooter. She will be getting yet more Playmobil (FB Marketplace bargain!), yet more Lego (a £30 set), a little ice cream van for her Polly Pocket collection (thank you Argos clearance!), 2 wheeled scooter, books, some little bits for her Sylvanian Family stuff (maybe the street light, not decided yet!), and a space hopper. She doesn't have GPs, so that'll be all she gets bar the odd £5/10 given from friends/family which will go in her money box never to be seen again as she refuses to spend it! .
We got her 2yrs older sister a Nintendo DS for Xmas, and I know DD2 would love her own. We are waiting until this coming Xmas to get her one, but she is more than capable of playing it - might be another idea if you're not screen averse? DD1's was about £30/40 from CEX, and many of the games cost

SkankingMopoke · 08/05/2021 21:37
