When did your baby grow out of newborn?

My son is now almost 3 weeks old. He was born early and he weighed 5lb 1oz. He is still in newborn and I'm wondering when your babies grew out of that size. I know that all babies are different obviously!

My twins were 6 weeks premature - little twin who was born at 4lbs is just out of newborn depending on the brand (she's 12 weeks now)

I didn’t buy any in the advice of my midwife which was good because was right in predicting that they never fitted into them.

Few days. 8lb 8oz born. He was just too long and like the hulk bursting out of them

Roselilly36 · 22/04/2021 18:36

DS1 & DS2 went straight into 0-3mths.

I find Newborn in the UK so strange because it can refer to either EU size 50 or EU size 56. If it refers to size 50 then the brand often has an in-between size called "Up to 1 month". If it refers to size 56 then the brand often calls size 50 "First size" or "Tiny baby". But all UK 0-3 months is equivalent to EU 62.

So for size 50:
2 weeks, but I birth them on the small side of medium and then they hulk out :o

For size 56:
Fit fine from birth up to about 8 weeks.

About six weeks. He only grew out of up to one month at three months Smile

Chelyanne · 22/04/2021 18:52

Our eldest was 7lb 7oz and in them about 4/5 weeks. Our 2nd was 10lb 12oz and only fit in the up to 1 month for a couple of weeks, same with 3rd who was 9lb 10oz. Our twins were 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz and fit newborn for a couple of weeks. Expecting another singleton and doubt she'll need the newborn stuff we have in storage.

Vicky1989x · 22/04/2021 20:20

My DD was 3lb 9oz at birth so didn’t fit into newborn until she was about 6 weeks old and was in them (and up to 1 month) until she was 3 months!

Twins over 8lb each! My goodness! Shock

@Chelyanne

Twins 8lb each!!! You're a warrior! Mine were only 4lb and 6.5 lb!

Iampicklerick · 22/04/2021 20:42

Eldest was in newborn for about 2 months, as he didn’t grow much on my milk Sad
Second never went in to newborn, straight in to 0-3 and was out of that after about 2 weeks. He was 10lbs 2.

Littlest one was in them for maybe a month. She was small for ages too.

miliie55 · 22/04/2021 20:47

First baby 8lbs outgrew around 3 weeks. She was in bigger sizes from about 5 months and was in 12-18 at 9 months. Growth slowed down about 18 months and she's now small for her age 25th centile.

Second baby was early and 6lb10 she outgrew some about 4wks others at 5wks. She's still quite small even at 17 months now. Still wearing some 9-12 clothes, mainly 12-18 now but plenty of room!

Lelophants · 22/04/2021 20:48

4 weeks, average size

miltonj · 22/04/2021 20:50

My 8lb baby was wearing it for about a month. All shops are different though. My 7 month old baby has 0-3 stuff from Asda George that still fits her whilst Tesco stuff she's in 9-12!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 22/04/2021 20:58

Born 8lb 11 and long, newborn size lasted 1 week.

RandomMess · 22/04/2021 21:04

Before birth Sad 10lb6oz and very very long had to put her in her going home outfit and her trousers were literally half mast at mid calf length!

SeaTurtles92 · 22/04/2021 21:12

About a month I think. He was in first size up until around one month. 7lb 2oz at birth he was just a little dink. He still is dinky Grin.

SeaTurtles92 · 22/04/2021 21:16

@Csx99

About 2-3 weeks 😂 he was 8lb11oz and very long. He's now 9 months old and 24lb8oz and 31 inches in 12-18 so he's always been huge!
I went straight off to google to check my 21 month olds weight and height was correct for his age.

They're exactly the same 😂.

110APiccadilly · 23/04/2021 02:32

About 6 weeks I think. She was 4lb 7oz at birth but grew pretty quickly.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 23/04/2021 02:43

As pp have said, its not a standard size or fit so it will vary hugely! It will also depend on whether or not they are brand new and still true to size...

MySocalledLoaf · 23/04/2021 06:08

Mine was 5lb and also early, we were really pleased he was so heavy.
I remember my 7 lb full term daughter being in newborn size for about a month and my sone was not much different.
The growth rate was not the same, though, early babies can have a big growth spurt and my son tripled his birth weight and went up 72 percentiles by 3 months.

20viona · 23/04/2021 07:23

My 5lb3oz baby was in newborn till about 12 weeks

NickieBBB · 23/04/2021 07:27

After two weeks with my son, he was born 54 cm.

CouldItBeJeffrey · 23/04/2021 07:34

DC1 was 6 weeks. DC2 was bigger at birth and grew quickly so only 2 weeks.
