Im a 3rd year maths student and single mum to bean, 22wks. Only been a student parent for 4 wks but it's hard! Can't imagine it's going to get any easier either but i'm sure it's worth it.

What is everyone else studying? Oh, and where? I'm at uni in edinburgh.

Done a Women's Studies Degree, PGCE, Post-grad diploma in Youth & Commmunity work and MA in Research Studies & 1st year of a PhD. Had to give it all up to take care of grandson - recently returned to study and now doing another degree, plus a LeTTOL Course.

Goingcrazy · 13/11/2004 21:28

Doing a PGCE, currently on 1st placement. Have two DDs, 10 and 8

Kif · 14/11/2004 20:11

Dh is a PhD student. Which has actually been helpful as he went a bit AWOL for the first few months of Dd! Working v. hard to catch up now, poor thing.

Sandi102 · 15/11/2004 16:36

hi all. its great to c so many inspriring mums, who i dearly admire for juggling work, study and life with kids and family.

I started my p/t degree when ds 1 was 9 months. I'm now in my final year and ds1 is 5 and ds2 is 6months.

My degree is in Information Studies, and i also work as a manager for the mobile librray and housebound library service. My dissertation is on recruitment and retention.

ScummyMummy · 15/11/2004 20:01

Ooo, granarybeck, I'm doing the same course as you (in London, tho). Are you enjoying it? I've just started to find mine interesting after a good few weeks of finding things simultaneously strange and dull!

slink- why are you leaving social work? Is it so bad?!

Hi to all the students, btw.

slug · 16/11/2004 14:40

Part time MSc in computing at the University of Greenwich, while working full time, supporting a SAH Dh and one DD aged 3.

lilibet · 16/11/2004 22:30

I'm new to this board but I am studying two levels in accounting and business studies through distance learning. However, I am applying to do a degree in accounting next year. I am a bit unsure though that I will be able to cope with the workload as I am struggling now.
I have a ds 2 years old.

amynnixmum · 25/11/2004 17:13

Hi, I'm doing a Masters in psychology with the OU. Am about 1/2 way through and this last course was a real toughie - tbh I would have given it up if it hadn't cost so much money. Finished it in oct but have to wait till week before xmas for results. Next course starts in feb.

DonnaLouise · 26/11/2004 16:07

How wonderful that I'm not the only one! There is life after children! Is this a new area to chat on? I haven't been online for a few months.

I'm a second year student midwife and it's tough. Unlike other university courses where you have a 6 week summer break, 3 week christmas and 2/3 weeks at easter, we have 7 weeks a year total.

And, because the uni isn't the best in the world, we're not in on set days which would have helped with childcare costs, cos as it is, ds has to go to nursery every day eating up all of my £6k a year bursery plus an extra grand.

And bereavements! Well, losing your mum like I did in July doesn't do much for your stress levels.

Thank heavens for my wonderful dh who is supporting me financially through this, as he did with my first degree. Wouldn't mind bit more help around the house though...!

Like tiredemma, "I WILL be a midwife"...

ScotsBird · 26/11/2004 20:54

Hi everybody, I am studying an OU masters in psychology (same as amynnixmum i think). Am awaitng results from this year's exam with dread adn have one more course to do starting in feb. Hopefully after that I will get on to the Doc in Clinical Psychology. My wee one is 15 mths and it has been hard going studying all through pregnancy and especially sitting exam last year when she was 8wks and boobs were full to bursting by end of exam!

MamaMaiasaura · 27/11/2004 05:00

I am in my second year mh nursing.. absolutely snowed under with work!! NOte the lateness of this posting.. been doing nights and also wokring on Essay.. arrgghh

Dev81 · 29/11/2004 01:06

i'm a single parent to ds ages 20 months and studying interior design home stiudy thinkgin of going back to college next september to do an access course in science as i would like to study psychology and chemistry but i know it will be hard work but every day is a small victory and a step closer to the finish line

Dev81 · 29/11/2004 01:13

reading through maybe i should do psychology as a home study course..then again i like the social interaction of a college.. but then i won't have to worry too much about child care as i'll be studying once ds goes to sleep... hmm i'll have to look into this (sorry just thinking out loud )

Tess04 · 29/11/2004 01:19

hi i'm new here too, i am also studying well actually just finished current course but that takes me half way through my degree. As it's with the OU this is a six year commitment, i also have children 4 but not as young as yours but it is hard going but it will be worth it. Keep going, and good luck
