What do you do for the Easter Bunny?

Just looking for idea and opinions about Easter. My DD is 6 and pretty switched on so to me it seems a bit unbelievable that a giant bunny will leave chocolate eggs around the garden? Especially as it's the same chocolate eggs that the supermarkets have been filled with for weeks 😂

I don't grudge getting stuff from the Easter bunny or hiding it around the place but I wondered if doing things like that at her age would start to cast doubt over Santa etc??!

I've done the Easter bunny stuff every other year and more than happy to do it but part of me thinks if she finds out that's not real she'll put 2 & 2 together about Santa. I'd rather sacrifice the Easter bunny stuff for a few more years of believing in Santa!!

Any other ideas or traditions I could do instead?

On the Saturday night we used to say to the dc that in the morning the Easter Bunny will have been. Then on the table were a few eggs from family and we would say who had given each egg

Then I would organise an Easter egg hunt with my dc and nieces and nephews etc the garden.

We didnt really buy into the whole Easter Bunny thing. I think possibly because it was never a thing for me as a kid and as a Christian family. Easter is about Jesus.

I am sure there are lots of people who do a lot more and that is their thing. Which is fine.

BunnyRuddington · 30/03/2021 21:12

Mine are 14 and 17 and the Easter Bunny still hides Easter Eggs for them to find. On reflection, I may not be the best person to ask...Grin

EskSmith · 30/03/2021 21:16

The Easter bunny still hides eggs here, my dd's are 12 and 14, they seem to suspend disbelief for chocolate ;)

We do big chocolate eggs and an egg hunt with small eggs, but we’re pretty clear with the DC that it’s family organising it rather than the Easter Bunny.

Their enjoyment doesn’t seem to be reduced by knowing it’s us rather than the Easter Bunny putting eggs out.

Itlod1982 · 30/03/2021 21:45

Thanks everyone!!

Haha I think I'd still believe it was for the chocolate 😂😂

I've already got one big egg and some smaller ones for my DD, I just didn't know if trying to convince her they were delivered by a giant bunny would make her question the tooth fairy and Santa etc (I'm not that bothered about the tooth fairy either tbh but LOVE Christmas and want her to believe for as long as possible!) I have never gone along with Easter bunny. It isn't believable at all.

I do a hunt most years but this year I am going to get absolutely loads of balloons and fill some of them with tiny Lindt bunnies, creme eggs, malteaster bunnies etc and get them to pop all the balloons to get the treats. In those with no treats I will put letters that will spell out the location of their eggs.

Throughabushbackwards · 30/03/2021 22:21

We do it a bit like Santa - we leave a carrot out before bedtime then we set out one large egg for each of us on the dining table and make a trail of small eggs leading off the table across the floor to the back door as if the bunny has come in through the cat flap (sod getting up early and traipsing about the garden).

Easter bunny absolutely was not a thing when I was young in the 70s, we got eggs from relatives but didn’t have a hunt or anything, so it didn’t occur to me to do anything Easter bunny related for mine. I’ve done mini egg hunts in the garden since the oldest was 2 but I just say “right, I’m going to hide the eggs now!”. We might wear bunny ears while searching! Then relatives either give them eggs when they see them or give them to me in advance and I say “here’s one from Aunty Marie” or whatever.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 30/03/2021 22:28

I don’t think I know anyone who goes along with the Easter Bunny come to think of it. I don’t really push the idea of Father Christmas either.

We do an egg hunt with clues in the garden.

mynameiscalypso · 30/03/2021 22:31

I never realised that the Easter Bunny was a thing! We just got lots of chocolate when we were kids but we never thought it was from a bunny.

LifesLittleDeciders · 30/03/2021 22:32

@RoseMartha
“Easter is about Jesus.”

Incorrect. Easter is about chocolate, hot cross buns and a lamb roast with the posh ‘extra special’ mint sauce from Asda.

I wish people would at least do a bit of research before commenting Hmm

Same here.

The only Easter bunnies I know of are made by Lindt or are pictures on Easter cards. I always assumed that was because there are plenty of rabbits around in the countryside in spring, along with the daffodils etc.

Having said that, someone on here was talking about having a bunny for dinner at Easter the other day......

Puffalicious · 30/03/2021 22:43

Seems an unpopular opinion, but we still do EB . DC are 16, 14 and just turned 9 (I do think the 9 Yr old still wants to believe). I have never had the conversation with the older 2 that he doesn't exist! Grin.

We have favourite sweets wrapped by us on the table (none of them are huge choc fans ) and lots of little eggs in the garden to find. We also 'plant ' jelly beans in the grass and the next morning, lo and behold, lollies have grown!

We go to a local park with a huge hill and roll painted eggs. Usually with my large, mental family- but not last year or this sadly- then we cram back to mine or my sisters and eat a lot. There's then a hunt around the garden but just clues to the next clue etc- big kids join in too (16-18s as well who compete!). Kids all give eggs/ small gifts/ something crafted to each other. I buy my sisters an Easter candle.

I suppose Easter was always a big thing growing up as we were brought up Catholic. I'm not religious at all but the getting together as family is great (there's 5 of us , partners and loads and loads of kids).

UnderHisAye · 30/03/2021 22:52

Nothing! Bloody Easter bunny, yet another thing mums are supposed to make mythical and magical and worthy of #makingmemories

Fuck that, I buy the kids Easter eggs, they are grateful, we get on with our Sunday.

😂😂😂 chocolate is probably the only bit they're actually interested in!!

We do an egg hunt but it’s pretty clear that I hid the eggs. A treasure hunt would be fun too, I think.

Mine are bloody mercenary sods and are definitely not interested in anything but the chocolate and a big roast dinner Grin

I remember believing in the Easter bunny at age 2 when at daycare, they got us all to sit on the floor facing the (second storey) window, and lo and behold a pair of ears bobbed up and down all the way along the window. Then when we turned around all the Easter baskets we painted had eggs in them!

Potterythrowdown · 01/04/2021 13:14

Nothing. We'll have an egg hunt but I'm not letting another pretend character take all the credit for my hard work, I have enough trouble with that Father Christmas bloke.

For you and your kids maybe but you're wrong. Have your own opinions and raise your kids how you like but don't teach them to be rude and dismissive about other people's faith. In Christianity, Easter is about Jesus and Easter is the most important event in the church calender. Do a bit research about how Easter Eggs originated...
Also we are Christians, I am a practising Catholic but guess what, being a churchgoer and having choc, eggs, hot cross buns and a lamb roast aren't mutually exclusive. Shocker: You can do both and we do.
