What do you do for the Easter Bunny?

Just looking for idea and opinions about Easter. My DD is 6 and pretty switched on so to me it seems a bit unbelievable that a giant bunny will leave chocolate eggs around the garden? Especially as it's the same chocolate eggs that the supermarkets have been filled with for weeks 😂

I don't grudge getting stuff from the Easter bunny or hiding it around the place but I wondered if doing things like that at her age would start to cast doubt over Santa etc??!

I've done the Easter bunny stuff every other year and more than happy to do it but part of me thinks if she finds out that's not real she'll put 2 & 2 together about Santa. I'd rather sacrifice the Easter bunny stuff for a few more years of believing in Santa!!

Any other ideas or traditions I could do instead?

@Puffalicious oh dear. They might teach you about Nessus is catholic school but they certainly didn’t teach you about sarcasm or humour.

I’m sorry if I offended you, I’ll be more careful to pic my audience next time Grin

We have never done the Easter bunny, eggs on the table from us and family and a few little ones for a hunt when they were younger

sunshinegirl28 · 01/04/2021 18:27

I asked Alexa how many days until Easter today and it did an April fools joke saying the Easter bunny was on strike this year and wouldn't come. My 6 year old burst into floods of tears poor thing! Didn't realise it would traumatise her so much!

Lifeslittledeciders I don't understand, I was defending your comment.

Salarymallory · 01/04/2021 19:31

Goodness
Mine never ever believed in the Easter bunny

But without fail.... Easter egg hunt (fiendishly difficult these days!), hot cross buns, and eggs and decorations on the breakfast table

Merename · 01/04/2021 19:33

Wow yes I’m amazed how many of you do it like Santa! That was never a thing when I was wee. They get eggs from us and family.

FurrySlipperBoots · 01/04/2021 19:35

@BunnyRuddington

Hehe, that's lovely! I remember when I was in my early 20s moaning to my mum about how I was craving chocolate and really needed some, and she came across with a bag of Easter eggs she'd had put away for months. She'd bought them in case I'd wanted an Easter egg hunt that year (I guess she chickened out of suggesting it in the end though, as I hadn't had one!). It was hilarious and sweet in equal measure.

Salarymallory · 01/04/2021 19:36

Easter takes me 15 mins prep - to include the seconds to throw in eggs and hot cross him
Plus to hide around home and garden

Love Easter - nice injection of “fun” for minimal effort and expense

Salarymallory · 01/04/2021 19:38

@HarkAVagrant

Easter bunny absolutely was not a thing when I was young in the 70s, we got eggs from relatives but didn’t have a hunt or anything, so it didn’t occur to me to do anything Easter bunny related for mine. I’ve done mini egg hunts in the garden since the oldest was 2 but I just say “right, I’m going to hide the eggs now!”. We might wear bunny ears while searching! Then relatives either give them eggs when they see them or give them to me in advance and I say “here’s one from Aunty Marie” or whatever.
What you describe is an Easter egg hunt?
Salarymallory · 01/04/2021 19:40

@RoseMartha

On the Saturday night we used to say to the dc that in the morning the Easter Bunny will have been. Then on the table were a few eggs from family and we would say who had given each egg

Then I would organise an Easter egg hunt with my dc and nieces and nephews etc the garden.

We didnt really buy into the whole Easter Bunny thing. I think possibly because it was never a thing for me as a kid and as a Christian family. Easter is about Jesus.

I am sure there are lots of people who do a lot more and that is their thing. Which is fine.

What is your approach to Christmas?
FionnulaTheCooler · 01/04/2021 19:47

I don't do the egg hiding thing because my garden is pretty small and there aren't any good hiding places. I leave a few Easter bits for DD in a gift bag for her to find on Easter morning, in the past it's been an egg and a couple of small pocket money toys, this year it's an egg and a new hair band, lip gloss and bath bomb.

1starwars2 · 01/04/2021 19:57

Easter Egg hunt, IMHO, is the best part of Easter.
Mine are 11 and 13, so no longer care about the Easter bunny but enjoy a competitive Easter egg hunt. 1 big egg each and lots of little ones.
We count them up at the end and then they share them out fairly (so oldest doesn't get all the chocolate).
Make them work for their eggs!!!

I have silver eggs for one and gold eggs for the other. Then I hide 8 of each, assigning each a colour. If one comes across an for the other, their choice if they point it out (they don’t!)
Liverbird77 · 02/04/2021 08:42

We have small and medium sized plastic eggs. We are filling them with little treats.. some edible, some toys...matchbox car, small squishy football, medal etc.
There are 24 in total. 12 for each child.

UnderHisAye · 02/04/2021 08:52

I get my kids to hide the eggs for each other, then they get the fun of hiding them and their own hunt too.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 02/04/2021 09:05

I wondered that too...
On a similar vein and all that... Smile

We don't "do" the easter bunny. My preschooler was quite confused when I picked him up from school the other day. He handed me an Easter egg and said "a rabbit gave me this" Grin

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 02/04/2021 09:06

Oh the quote didn't work... In was in reference to a pp's approach to christmas

GrumpyHoonMain · 02/04/2021 11:32

DN is nearly 10 believes in easter bunny poo chocolate. I usually melt chocolate coins and set them into poo shapes when she’s at her friends then hide them everywhere.

Oh I am stealing this idea for next year! Love it!
HarkAVagrant · 02/04/2021 23:29

@sallorymallory Yes. I do an egg hunt for my kids. The bunny is not involved. I didn’t have egg hunts when I was a child, or the bunny, neither was a thing. Is that confusing?

LargeYorkshirePuddingAndGravy · 02/04/2021 23:38

The Easter bunny brings one or two eggs here and leaves a little hunt in the garden or living room depending on the weather.

It also brings the kids a new toothbrush each year, a fancier light up one or electric one which they get more excited about than the eggs tbh

It makes them clean their teeth extra well the month or so before Easter too because we said the Easter bunny only brings chocolate to children with good teethGrin so bonus!

We leave a note out and a veg snack too like with Santa. My son likes to ask the bunny a multiple choice question each year and then leaves a box for the bunny to put a paw print in for an answer. We used to use the dogs paw but she's died now so actually I don't know what I'll do this year Confused

DateStamp · 02/04/2021 23:47

Yes, the Easter bunny poos in our house too. Little piles of chocolate raisins all over the place.

It gets in by jamming a carrot in the window to keep it open. Then it leaves chocolate paw prints across the path and up the window.

MixedUpFiles · 03/04/2021 00:52

We hide plastic eggs of various sizes with candy, coins and gifts inside (I have a couple of big eggs). I never really hyped the Easter bunny or Santa, though she did pick it up from nursery and believe for a few years.

Dd is 12. I asked how much longer I need to keep hiding eggs, she said forever. I joked that I’ll end up putting tiny bottles of liquor inside some day.

Kittens30 · 03/04/2021 10:57

We do Easter bunny

Silverfly · 03/04/2021 10:59

We do Santa and the tooth fairy, but for some reason we've never done the Easter bunny. I'm not sure why. We just hide eggs in the garden and the kids look for them.
