Just started to use Swaddlebees AIOs on DS - they're great, no leakages, nice fit. Only problem - been using for 2 days and DS is getting quite bad nappy rash, so I've put him back in disposables for now so I can put Sudacrem on him. Am I doing something wrong? I am using them like disposables, but should I be changing after every wee to keep him dry? Any advice very welcome .

What and how much powder are you using?

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 18:09

No powder - should I be?

Oooh! Thought you meant talc, which I thought was a little odd!

Sainsbury's own non-bio, half a tablet per wash.

what sort of nappy rash? around the legs, or where his poo would be?

you can use sudocrem better with terries than disps btw - it's disposables that become less absorbent with it.

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 20:12

Where his poo would be, but he hasn't been sat in poo - only done one today and was changed straight after it.

I thought I couldn't use Sudocrem with washables? That'll be handy if I'm wrong.

you can use sudocrem with washables.

is he teething perhaps?

there's no real reason that I know of for that kind of nappy rash to be more common with terries other than that you can't always smell it as quickly, so they sit in it sometimes. wee on its own doesn't cause nappy rash (so no, you don't need to change after every wee). airing their bottoms out does help, but I guess you know that.

lailasmum · 08/11/2007 20:16

It could just be the change of environment if its his first day or two. It will sort itself out, else just make sure his bum gets cleaned thoroughly when he is changed. You can use the thinner barrier creams, its just some of the really thick ones block up the fabric.

NowKnownAsMummy · 08/11/2007 20:18

No, you can definitely use sudocrem with washables. Though I find it can clog up fleece liners a bit but it does wash off. Maybe you could try an extra rinse after washing to see if this helps? Don't think you need to change after every single wee (unless you can tell they've just done a big one!) as long as they are changed after a poo (as with disps).

octo · 08/11/2007 20:18

Some babies do get a red bottom when your first start using cloth - not sure why - but they do tend to get over it - would carry on using them and put some sudocrem on as a barrier. Barrier creams can block the wee getting through the fabric sometimes - so occasionally rinse them through without any dtergent or do a pre-wash to rinse them properly.

Havn't used swaddlebees - do they have a fleece inside? If not, try a fleece liner.

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 20:20

That's useful, thanks.

He is definitely teething, I thought it was too much of a coincidence though that the rash started when I changed the nappies. Coincidences do happen though! I air him as much as I can, he does have a habit of weeing at inappropriate moments though.

I'll persevere and use the Sudocrem if it gets bad.

some serious x-posting!

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 20:22

Yes octo, they have fleece inside.

Sorry forgot you ,but you got all the responses anyway

Flame · 08/11/2007 20:23

Swaddlebees AIOs have organic velour rather than fleece

octo · 08/11/2007 20:24

Ah maybe some fleece is required then!

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 20:25

Soz Flame, shows what I know!

interesting - do you think the ov is slower do mop up the wee as my boy (who is one today yey!!) leaks always with his swadder and has red bits after too - just a thought from my head (which is soaked in cava tonight!)

lailasmum · 08/11/2007 20:28

The fleece is hidden under the organic cotton.

Flame · 08/11/2007 20:32

I only found out recently

MonkeyTrumpet · 08/11/2007 20:32

Perhaps I'll try a fleece liner then. And/or some sudocrem.

OP posts:
Flame · 08/11/2007 20:32

Is it?

Flame · 08/11/2007 20:33

Ooh yes, so it is

nappyzone · 08/11/2007 20:35

i am lost now. If it is under does that mean it has to pass through o cotton then fleece so slower then ??? oh god maybe i should just go to bed.
