Am i strange?? all of mine have been in cloth from day one, with the dt's i had back-up sposies, but dd has never had one near her. I am expecting dtd's in march and will be using cloth (cheers flame!!) from the moment they're born.

A friend came round to see me the other day and thought it was frankly bizarre that i no longer keep a sposie back-up of nappies or wipes. Dos anyone else rely entirely on cloth nappies and wipes or am i just a fruit loop

We usually have a half-pack of paper nappies hanging about left over from the last holiday /weekend away (though frequently dd outgrows them before they're finished).

Not wipes though - use cotton wool & water when not using washable ones so never need them.

morocco · 08/11/2007 16:19

i had a back up pack of newborn ones - never worn, then dh opened them so couldn't return them , then got next size up, kept returning and exchanging etc. i did keep the sample ones you get given in the change bag and used one once so does that count?
i'm just too tight these days to pay the extra money, that's mostly why

bigmouthstrikesagain · 08/11/2007 16:22

yes - In my defence my dd is so huge that she has outgrown a lot of her cloth nappies so I am struggling to use cloth all the time at the mo. Need some more.

Errr - oooops. DD wears them at night and when I've been a Bad Mother and not got hers dry in time.

bagpuss · 08/11/2007 16:27

Wipes yes, nappies no (unless you count the outgrown 1/2 pack of moltex from when he was about 8 months). We only use cloth at night now but for me it is the principle of using paper pants that I'm against. I even shelled out for a set of size 3s which we used for about 7 weeks before he trained .

I only have them atm because DS has thrush and I want to throw away the nappies rather than wash em hot iyswim (and he has antibiotic poo).

I had to go and buy them though - if you kept a back up pack they would keep being grown out of.

As it is I have to stare blankly for 10 mins working out what kind of disposables I need (I actually asked a woman the time before last because the ones I had bought before weren't there She looked at me like I was insane as I had an 18 month old with me )

I use disps when I go to my mum's because otherwise she'll wash them for me and/or buy me some disposables. I have some left over from last time.

nappyzone · 08/11/2007 20:32

We have a small pack in the house for when i forget to wash but i havent used them for a week or so - i probs use 1 a week on average - i was at a party the other day and someoen asked to borrow a nappy of me as there child had pood - i pulled out a bumgenius and they looked at me like i was an alien when i said wash and send back via my sil when used and promptly trundled of to the garage while there dd sat in sh** for half an hr - NICE!

moljam · 08/11/2007 20:34

i have a pack of disposables at the moment because i have had enough of washing ds diarhoa from his nappies.im not odd,bad or slightly embarressed.

yep loads. dd1 we must have used less than a pack in total from birth to potty. but dd2's been about half and half paper (moltex) and cloth, cloth when i can be arsed, paper when i can't

bristols · 08/11/2007 20:52

We use disposables at night. DS is just soaked through in cloth at night. Use Nature Babycare ones so it helps with my tree-huggerness a bit...!

Flame · 08/11/2007 22:29

Do you find the tabs snap off them Bristols?

Maveta · 09/11/2007 06:36

Yes, ds wears them at night, not yet found a night nappy that can keep up with his mammoth wees! I fought against it for ages trying out different combinations and then stopped and realised it really was so not a big deal him wearing a disposable now and then.

NAB3littlemonkeys · 09/11/2007 08:05

In answer to the OP I have no disposables for my youngest. All 3 of mine have been mostly cloth with disposables when we were on holiday and when the washer broke but I really do hate them.

claireybraxtonhicks · 10/11/2007 17:27

For a long time I had back up nappies just cos I had a whole load left from before I started using cloth then took part in which nappy trial and was given 2 packs of disposables. They soon got used up though as dh kept using them rather than the cloth ones and havent had any since. LO due in dec will also be in cloth from day 1 and am not intending to buy disposables

I always have a packet of Moltex for when I haven't got organised enough to wash, dry and bring a load of nappies back upstairs. Also for days out, and when DS goes to the creche (they don't do cloth).

I'm a nappy tart

Washersaurus · 10/11/2007 21:43

I usually have a pack of Nature baby disp nappies knocking around as my washing machine has been rather unreliable lately and it is always good to have a 'Plan B'.

I do buy some babywipes for DS1 to take to nursery, but I don't like to use them really - I mostly stick to flannels and water.

Flame The tabs DO always tear off the Nature Nappies. I contacted them about it when I had a particularly duff pack and they sent me some vouchers for my trouble.

DynamiteDaisy · 10/11/2007 21:47

I'm using "sposies" at the minute as my poor DD has ongoing rash problems that seem worse when using real nappies.

I think she may be allergic to elastic

ib · 10/11/2007 21:58

We always have some moltex around but they leak and give ds nappy rash so we only ever use them when we're really short on cloth ones and he's going to be changed again really soon - eg. if he poos shortly before his bathtime.

I always keep one in my bag for emergencies when out too.
