Nappy rash won’t go

Hello everyone,

My 6 week old has had nappy rash for 3 weeks. The skin is broken and looks so sore. It's only between his bottom cheeks no where else. Have tried, metanium, Bepanthan , sudocrem, Daktacort and timodene. No difference! Change nappy regularly and have nappy free time at least two hours a day. I have been doctors who prescribed some of the above creams and did a swab which came back with no infection etc. Have tried different brands of nappies etc. Can anyone suggest anything else?! It doesn't seem to bother him generally only when nappy changing time comes but it breaks my heart to see it!

Did you mean to tag me or @Beckabub ?
I have nothing to add to my previous comments tbh!
Hope you can sort it, good luck.

Hiya,

Sorry to hear you are having these problems too. It's awful isn't it.

After I posted, about a week later it started to heal very slowly. I think it was the timodene cream that finally started to help. And after that had applied and soaked in a bit I literally lathered the sudocrem on so thickly. And increased the no nappy time as much as possible. Having him on his front on my chest whilst he slept for example ( with his legs under his bum so his bum was in the air as I thought that would maximise the air circulation to the sorest parts!)

It did take a very long time to fully go away, but once the broken skin had healed it was so much easier to control.

pampers were the worst nappies as they seemed to have a netting in them that clung to the sore skin when changing. That's what I used since he was born so I think that kickstarted the issue.

Would definitely try timodene if you haven't already. But you might have to be patient with it before you see a result.

Hope you get it resolved.

@brookedavis12

Also apart from having sensitive skin in general like allergies, he's now three and has no food intolerances or allergies. So ours wasn't to do with that.

But lots of people did suggest maybe a dairy intolerance through their own experiences.

Sounds like we have had such a similar experience thank you so much.

yes, I stopped pampers last week and it has massively improved so I do think pampers were making it worse (how awful!) I know have 240 pampers and not sure what to do with them haha

going back to the gp today and will ask for Timodene as read alot about this and will keep calm and carry on.
just a lot when they’re so young, feel so trapped in a world of rashes and nappy free time.

Thanks so much :)

Same, I had so many nappies left over too! Luckily a family member had a baby six months later so I gifted them - and their baby was fine using them.

I understand completely how you feel. I was in tears over it at times and just felt helpless and that it was taking over our days.

But it won't be forever, it won't be much longer hopefully when you find something that works. Just lots of trial and error for their delicate little skin on what helps ..

@Beckabub @brookedavis12

Hi both, I have a three week old boy with the same issue- terrible nappy rash that nothing seems to be working on. Weleda worked briefly but then we tried yellow metanium and the whole thing got much worse. :-(

I’m taking him to the GP tomorrow, but we’ve been using pampers since he was born and I’ve noticed the mesh sticks to him as well. It’s so sad. Would you mind sharing what nappies you moved to and had a better result with?

Many thanks, K

Hey K!

it’s Brookedavis12 but seem to have lost this account.

yep, so pampers for us were definitely the reason why it didn’t get better. We moved to Sainsbury’s nappies and they were life changing. We now use Amazon brand as they are also very similiar and easier to get!

we went to the gp, was prescribed a cream called Timodene (seen a few other mums use this and asked for it!) and was gone within a week. I tried EVERYTHING, It lasted 7 weeks and was hell I have press from it I’m sure.

best of luck xxx
