C section and baby allergies poll

Rubiales678 · 17/03/2021 00:07

Hi just very curious to know anecdotally if there are others who had c sections and their baby ended up having cows milk protein allergy (CMPA) or other allergies not in the family.
Did you have a c section? Yes /no
Does your baby have any allergies? Yes/no
Do you have a family history of allergies?
Did your baby grow out of allergies if they had any?

Thanks for any responses!

Both me & my sister born by c section - I've got no allergies but she's got loads

DS: vaginal birth, eczema as a newborn which is definitely improving, no allergies that we know of
Baby DD: c section, nothing yet

Frontgardenhelp · 17/03/2021 07:21

2 c sections, no allergies of any kind.

Boringnamechanging · 17/03/2021 07:24

No c-sections
2 children with cmpa
No family allergies but looking back I had many of the signs of cmpa myself as a child but I'm fine with milk now.
Neither out grown it yet

1st child - section, no allergies
2nd child - Vbac, dairy, egg, tree nut and peanut, tomato and potato allergies

Danutaisabully · 17/03/2021 07:26

Vaginal birth and breastfed. Daughter has sesame, peanut and treenut allergies.

Eileen101 · 17/03/2021 07:28

My second child was a vaginal birth and has allergies to milk, soya and wheat.

megletsecond · 17/03/2021 07:37

No family history of allergies.

14yr old DS was an EMCS at 37 weeks, no problems at birth. Lots of expressed milk and mixed fed until 3 months then formula. Handful of food allergies and he carries an epi-pen, that has thankfully never been used.

12yr old DD. Planned cs at 39 weeks. No allergies. Easy BF until 4 months then formula. No allergies.

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2021 07:41

Family history of allergies. I had 2 CS, both dc have no allergies.

I have two nieces, both vaginal births, both with allergies (egg, dairy, shellfish).

PenguinMama · 17/03/2021 07:53

I've had two c/s, neither have any allergies yet (3y and 7m). DBs children both were v/b and have cows milk allergies (growing out of it now). I was lactose intolerant as a child but grew out of it (c/s); DB (c/s) and DM are still lactose intolerant.

It's tricky to decide with small samples though; you need to look at the large scale studies as it's really easy to overextrapolate from anecdotes.

DS born by emergency section.

He's 3.5 and no allergies.

I was very worried about allergies because my DH is allergic to everything so I:

  1. Used probiotics
  2. Didn't go crazy with hygiene (pre Covid)
  3. Let him play in dirt when he was a baby
  4. Introduced allergens before 6 months

No idea if any of it helped!!

FelicityPike · 17/03/2021 07:56

1 section.
Child has no (known) allergies.
Her dad & I are both allergic to penicillin....but no, no CMPA.

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 07:57

CMPA is just more prevalent than HCP seem to be aware of, lots of the ‘baby symptoms’ like spewing, crying, burping, snotty, farting and staying up all night always get brushed off as aww that’s just what babies do.

No, they’re allergic to the alternative mammal milk your giving them either directly or indirectly.

Vaginal birth. DC has CMPA. Not grown out of it yet 9m

AdditionalCharacter · 17/03/2021 07:57

Three c sections, no allergies, no family history of allergies

Phillipa12 · 17/03/2021 07:57

4 c sections and only dc4 had cmpa, outgrown now though. No other allergies in any of the other dc.

Cornishmumofone · 17/03/2021 07:57

DD born by caesarean. She outgrew a loose cooked egg allergy and a peanut allergy but has an auto injector for her walnut and pecan nut allergy. She also has asthma and hay fever... and occasionally eczema.

I have asthma and hay fever and grandparents on both sides have severe psoriasis. My mum is allergic to macadamia nuts; my sister is allergic to coconut.

Twizbe · 17/03/2021 07:59

Both children were standard vaginal deliveries
No allergies in immediate family
DC1 has CMPA and hasn't grown out of it
DC2 has no allergies

Thatwentbadly · 17/03/2021 08:18

DD1 emcs and I had spesis so I had a huge amount of antibiotics after birth which would have transferred through my milk. Although on reflection I think she has CMPA before I developed spesis. Just outgrown it now at 4 and 3/4. Other than hay fever no family history of allergy.

DD1, vaginal birth but I had surgery immediately afterwards and would have had one antibiotics IV. She has CMPA and is allergic to soya and coconut. She is 20 months and has passed stage 4 of the milk ladder but I think she has reacted. Although yesterday I cracked and ate something with soya flour in - I’m so pissed off with myself.

Thatwentbadly · 17/03/2021 08:19

Second one should be DD2

Babyiskickingmyribs · 17/03/2021 08:26

Why not look up research that’s already been done properly rather than attempt to collect anecdotes pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16076303/

Sls668 · 17/03/2021 10:54

Baby was emergency section, she’s only 4 months but has no allergies at present (breastfed).
We don’t have a family history of allergies.
Here’s something interesting, I’ve worked in childcare for 15 years and there tends to be ‘trends’ of diagnoses given by GPs, currently, it’s CMPA. If we have 10 babies start, 5 of them will have been told they have CMPA! When I mentioned this to my HV, she said the exact same thing and said that, if parents persevere avoiding CMP until child is old enough to be seen be a dietician/allergy team then it’s very rare that they actually get an official diagnosis as they very rarely actually do have an allergy.

DwangelaForever · 17/03/2021 11:10

2x c sections and no allergies although I will say they both had bad reflux

Glitterheart · 17/03/2021 11:15

I was a c section baby. No allergies.
DD1 c section - egg allergy, outgrown by 5 years.
DD2 c section - no allergies
No family history of allergies

Smiling89 · 17/03/2021 16:57

1 CS, child has no allergies so far, but I have loads of allergies (nickel, hay fever, eczema, cats, penecillen....etc)

CreosoteQueen · 18/03/2021 04:35

I had a c-section. No apparent allergies yet (my baby is nearly 4 months). No allergies in the family.
