Would you spend one night away from your 9mo?

My best friend's wedding has been rearranged for later this year, and so the hen party is being discussed at the moment. At the moment I have a 4 month old DS, and by then he will be 9 months old. I'm EBF at the moment. My question to you is, when your babies were 9mo, would you have been happy leaving them for one night? My DH would be looking after him, but I just worry that even with some expressed milk to hand he won't settle properly and it will just be a traumatic night for both of them. Has anyone done this before?

For what it's worth, the place we would be staying is about 45 minutes away from where I live, so I could come home in the evening if I wanted to. I would like to stay if it would work, firstly because I think we could all do with a break, and secondly because I want to be able to do it for her after a shit year of having to postpone it three times. But obviously my DS does, and always will, come first.

WWYD?

Mine were both 5 months when left overnight with DH and that was also with us being away all day at a wedding (GPs looked after them)!

I left my baby overnight (with my husband) at nine weeks!

Yes, my son was ebf and at 9 months I left him with his dad for an afternoon and overnight and went on my own hen do.

He drank lots of water and some milk from a sippy cup, ate loads of veg/fruit purée and milky porridge and was back on the boob by 10am the next day.

He slept like a log with DH only going in once and giving him a little drink of milk from a sippy cup before cuddling him back to sleep.

MIL spoiled her baby all day long so no doubt DS was in his element (we adore her btw).

Would I have done it frequently, absolutely not. Was it ok for a one off, 100% yes.

I had a fabulous time made better knowing he was safe and happy with his daddy!

Oh yes, take a pump! Your boobs will suffer more than your baby!

Smartiepants79 · 27/02/2021 20:59

Nobody can really tell you the answer to this right now.
It depends on-
Will the baby take a bottle?
How often is he waking in the night?
How do you get him to go to sleep?
I couldn’t have left mine as she refused bottles and was still needing feeding twice a night.
You won’t know how doable this is until a week or two beforehand.

I think one evening away is absolutely fine and if you change your mind on the night, at least you are only 45 minutes away. And agree with others, definitely take that pump, your boobs will thank you for it!

100%but we left dd overnight for the first time at 8 weeks, then once a month when she stayed at my mums so we coule have a date night.

midnightstar66 · 28/02/2021 07:05

Gosh yes, I bf my babies and dd1 stayed with my parents for the odd sleepover from about 5 months. She was fine taking a bottle when I wasn't around for the preferred alternative but don't forget by 9 months your baby will be well in to their weaning journey and be taking liquids from a cup as well as bf. it's worth maybe getting baby used to expressed milk from a bottle now anyway as there could be numerous reasons you have to leave them for a short while. Plus will be nice for dh to sometimes be able to do it.

Yes of course. We went to Barcelona for 2 nights when my daughter was 12 weeks old.

Xansaf · 28/02/2021 08:19

I was asked to go to Glasgow to appear on TV when my daughter was 7 months. I was away 2 nights. She had a great time with grandma. I wasn’t breastfeeding though so she was used to bottles and she had slept at
Grandma’s for one night before.

Marimaur · 28/02/2021 13:22

Mine was EBF and I wouldn’t have left them overnight as I seem prone to mastitis (had it three times!) .. which due to them going longer times between feeds (they were crazy nighttime drinkers).

If you're still breastfeeding at that point, bring a pump!
