Is it safe to hang pictures above a cot?

That's it, really.

Would you hang (framed) pictures above baby's cot? If not, and the wall space needed filling, what would you put up in that space?

I wouldn’t. I’d pop up some wall stickers or something if it needed something there.

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 18/02/2021 11:28

I wouldn't put anything there just yet, personally. It doesn't have to be filled. My son's walls were basically empty until he reached about 18 months, then I put up some shelves and pictures. I still don't have his cot under the shelves, though, just in case. Which is silly paranoia but I needed some shelves in his room so couldn't just leave it!

I may be being dense, but i don't get why you wouldn't!

I wouldn't attach anything to a wall above a cot.

A painted scene or stickers instead.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 18/02/2021 11:29

I wouldn't.

Just leave it blank. If you want pictures, put them on a different wall.

Harrysmummy246 · 18/02/2021 11:29

I'd go for it depends on the state of the walls and the DIY ability of the person putting it up.

TierFourTears · 18/02/2021 11:29

I wouldnt do wall stickers either, having found some which had fallen off the wall into the cot. Thankfully not when baby was in there (one benifit of a minimally sleeping baby!).
So, I'd leave it empty.

I’m assuming the risk of the picture falling off the wall? I wouldn’t personally especially not with glass in them. Wall stickers a good option
statetrooperstacey · 18/02/2021 11:30

I wouldn’t, I’ve seen a few mirrors/ pictures randomly fall off the wall. It’s a really small risk but it’s easily avoidable so no.

DoodleLovin · 18/02/2021 11:31

I did. It fell in the cot at night. Thankfully not on the baby but boy did it give me a fright! Learnt my lesson!!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 18/02/2021 11:31

Nope it's not a good idea. I'm personally fine with a plain wall, but if you really want something then wall decals/stickers are the best option unless you have the skill to pain something yourself.

I was the same. I did once have shelves come off the living room wall that I had thought were so secure an earthquake wouldn't shift them, so I couldn't get the what if out of my head.
floppybit · 18/02/2021 11:31

I don't put pictures above cots or beds, I thought that was the norm. A huge mirror fell down a few years ago and nearly hit my son on the head so I'm particularly paranoid about this...

Needsleeeeepsendheeeelp · 18/02/2021 11:33

DH says no to it, in case it falls down etc. I think as long as it was properly hung (not using command strips, for instance) and the frame had perspex not glass in it, it would be OK to. We have lots of pictures up in the house and none have ever fallen down barring one using command strips, and that's because I used the wrong sized strip for the frame.

I know we don't 'need' anything up there, but the configuration of the room means it would look odd not to.

I wouldnt do frames, glass etc but a mural or a small textile hanging would be fine.

ekidmxcl · 18/02/2021 11:35

I’d leave it blank.

Needsleeeeepsendheeeelp · 18/02/2021 11:39

Fair enough 🙂

A poster? Maybe careful what you use to attach, you wouldn't want your baby eating blu-tac (other brands are available).

Heyha · 18/02/2021 11:45

I wouldn't, not just because of the obvious clonk on the head concern but also when they can stand up in the cot they will undoubtedly sabotage your attempts to hang it safely and securely.

I'd possibly consider a small canvas but nothing in a frame with corners. Why risk it just to make the room look nice, the baby won't care.

firstimemamma · 18/02/2021 11:48

No I wouldn't do it. Surely just put lots of pictures everywhere else in the room.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 18/02/2021 11:50

I can’t sleep with anything placed in a room that could possibly fall on my bed. No bookcases, no picture frames, no shelves, nothing. It amazes me how other people can. But then I have lived through earthquakes.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 18/02/2021 11:51

I wouldn’t. But I also wouldn’t have a framed picture above my own bed.. wouldn’t be able to relax sleeping under it.

ivfbeenbusy · 18/02/2021 11:53

I've been having this internal debate for months - I've decided against it and will get some wall stickers or a fabric name/initial

megapack · 18/02/2021 11:54

I did but only because baby's cot is on wheels so I move it out and away from the wall for sleeping. I also didn't hang anything heavy.

AlexaStop · 18/02/2021 11:55

No! My 19 month old kicks the wall through his cot bars and shakes the house. A picture would definitely fall
