DD was 22 mths

DS is 2 next week and still in his cot. However he has been able to lower the side and get out for a while now Probably should do something really!

sarahlou1uk · 30/10/2007 22:24

Ds was 2 and we had the bed against the wall and one of those bed rails at the other which stopped him falling out. Never looked back.

pooka · 30/10/2007 22:25

DS is 2 and still in his cot. Have no plans to move him imminently. He is still in a grobag and doesn't climb out. DD was only just 2 when she moved into a bed (ds was born a couple of months later and we wanted her to get used to a bed before the cot was conspicuously used by ds.
We're planning to replaster and decorate a bigger bedroom for him in the NEw Year, and I think then we'll have the cot and a bed in there until he makes the transition.

ds was three! and dd was almost three!. They loved their cot and nver tried to climb out so left it as long as I could

Olihan · 30/10/2007 22:29

Ds1 was 17mo and dd was 15mo - both evicted by the imminent arrival of new baby. If she can walk and climb on and off the bed then she'll be fine.

dd666 · 30/10/2007 22:31

my dd was 14mo she was climbing and fell more than a cpl of times it took her a little while to get used to it but she has acot bed so i put the base as low as poss and theres a spare quilt on the floor for rolling accidents, and its so much better on my back saves the lifting in and out if she wakes i can sit by her stroke her eyebrow cause i can reach now hth

choosyfloosy · 30/10/2007 22:33

18 mo. Kind of had to as he had fallen out once, and was waking himself up when he rolled over and hit his arms against the bars (sleeping to ds is a martial art, frankly, he spins like Jackie Chan). But also because I foolishly thought he would entertain himself in the mornings if he could get to his toys!

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH

It was much too early and we spent a nightmare 5 months when he literally would not spend a moment in the bed when he was awake. Possibly cot sides would have helped but I don't believe so myself.

If I were you, I would stick a mattress by the cot to catch her if she falls, and spin it out as long as possible. But I know I wouldn't have been able to do that myself. And some children apparently do stay in their beds much more than ds.

19 months. She has never once fallen out

omeN666 · 31/10/2007 15:35

cotbeds..both ds and dd1 where in it by 13mths as they both tried to vault over the sides. DD2 is a bit smaller and at 9mths even though she is semi walking is too short to see over the side of the cot..lol

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 · 31/10/2007 15:39

ds was 18 months. he fell out a couple of times but got the hang of it pretty quickly.

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 31/10/2007 19:02

Just done it a few days ago at nearly 20mths, she loves it! Haven't bothered with bed guards and so far has not fallen out .

BJB21 · 31/10/2007 19:09

HE was 15 mths and got one of those low beds from ikea. he was fine. its started off small but extended bigger as he got older

tassisssss · 31/10/2007 19:15

ds was 3 months short of 3 when he went from cot to proper bed (with bed rail)

think that was pretty late, but worked for us and he was still napping for 2 hours at lucnhtime.

ellehcim · 31/10/2007 19:22

DS1 was just 2. we probably would have had him in the cot for a bit longer but wanted him settled in his new room before DS2 came along. We had no problems and he took to it straight away. We have a full sized single with a bed rail.

sallyf104 · 31/10/2007 19:29

Both DD1 and DS were 22 months when they worked out how to climb out of the cot - so didn't really have a choice. I would leave as late as you can but if showing signs of climbing out, best do it now

juuule · 31/10/2007 19:48

I think the youngest was almost 2 and the oldest is part-time cot, part-time bed at 4.

shortly before ds was 2. he decided - i was pregnant and one night he said "no cot, baby sister have it" and that was that.
but he had a [double!] mattress on the floor rather than a real bed.

LoveAngel · 31/10/2007 20:05

2 yrs 7 months. He climbed out his cot (surprisingly late consideirng what a little adventurer he is) and so a bed it was. It took about 2 weeks of him coming downstairs at night, crying, generally pissing about etc before he settled. He loves his 'big boy bed' now, though.

busybusymummy · 31/10/2007 20:40

DD was around 2 - it was her 2nd birthday present. We had it made for her at a pine shop near us, and he built a side rail into the design.
DS (15 months)nowhere near, although he's wuite close to being able to tip himself over the top of his cot.

chankins · 31/10/2007 20:42

dd1 was 16 months - we had to put her in big bed to make room for her little sisters imminent arrival ! She was fine and did not get out at all - even in morning she just called us to get her even though she could climb out herself.
dd2 was 19 months, and that was because we moved house and couldn't be bothered to put cot up again. She got out a few times the first night and then was fine.
They both had those side, barrier things up to start with incase they fell out.

annieshaf · 31/10/2007 21:11

Just converted DS2's cot to a cot bed last weekend, he is 21 months old. So far not too many problems. Didn't bother with the barriers as he is good at turning round to climb off beds so thought we would try to manage without.

madamez · 31/10/2007 21:16

DS is 3.1 and still in a cot. I have bought a bed (or rather my brother has got it for me and it's in his garage at present) but want to crack potty training first. DS doesn;t climb out of his cot and reacted with a bit of anxiety to the suggestion of having a big boy bed, so I'm in no rush.
