Nursery renamed my DD

Apparently today at pickup DH was told by the nursery that theyre renaming DD and from now on will call her Boudicca...

For context, she's 14m and the size of an average 8m baby according to the red book, but she is So Feisty.

According to them, she wants to get in the middle of everything, and if someone takes something she's playing with, she doesn't give a monkey's how big or how old they are, she goes and tries to take it off them, and usually manages it.

DH said the keyworker was laughing when she told him, he thought it was hilarious and i do too, I'm proud of my tiny daughter taking no shit, but my mum made a bit of a face and said she thought it was kinda rude of them... i can almost see why? Maybe? But not really. It's not a negative name, and they're not branding her a troublemaker or anything, it just seemed like a joke. I doubt they actually call her Boudicca anyway. I'm overthinking it now.

I’d just think it was a joke. Wouldn’t bother me!
Could be worse, nursery nicknamed my friend’s daughter ‘Jaws’...

CorianderBee · 19/01/2021 20:10

It's a joke move on

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/01/2021 20:10

I don't think they're actually changing her name though, it's an affectionate nickname if anything.

Oh don't worry too much.. Every morning they say "hello trouble" to my daughter because she's a little madam at nursery. I know she's a good girl though and she just wants to be centre of attention 😁

Oh12lookanothernamechange1234 · 19/01/2021 20:14

It’s an affectionate joke name, they won’t call her it, they will be showing how independent she is. My dd is similar, 17 months and comfortably is the size of an average 11 month old.
She’s a sassy princess and nursey proudly tell me all the stories of she stands up too all the boys. She does me proud.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/01/2021 20:22

It's a joke, please don't give it another thought.

Math years ago when I worked in a nursery one little girl was known as Martha Moo. Confused so it could be worse.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/01/2021 20:28

My mum wanted to call me Boudicca. For real. Am so thankful for my Dads reasonable influence.

ForeverBubblegum · 19/01/2021 20:29

A friend actually was renamed at nursery. His official name is just Tom and until age 3 he was called Tommy. On his first day they told him they already had a Tommy, so from now on he would be Thomas, and he still is 30 years later. No idea why his parents were ok with it. (Not actual name, but similar giving a longer version that wasn't his name)

I know someone who's actually called Boudicca tbf
CaptainMyCaptain · 19/01/2021 22:07

Boudicca is a great name.

EssentialHummus · 19/01/2021 22:10

I’m another one who knows a Boudicca. coriander are you in south London?

A friend’s son went by Godzilla at his childminder’s.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/01/2021 21:53

It IS a great name but just not for me!

peasoup8 · 21/01/2021 09:40

I’m another one who knows a Boudicca.

Anyone who admits to knowing a Boudicca is definitely going to be outing themselves - I mean, how many Boudiccas can there be? Grin

DifficultBloodyWoman · 21/01/2021 09:43

How do you pronounce it? I remember being confused by this at school as teachers said it differently.

Is it Boo-Dee-See-Uh or Boo-Dick-Uh?

DifficultBloodyWoman · 21/01/2021 09:43

I think Bow-Dee-See-Uh was also an option

peasoup8 · 21/01/2021 09:46

I’ve always pronounced it “Boo-Dick-Uh” but I think both ways are right.

reprehensibleme · 21/01/2021 09:48

I would be wearing that as a badge of honour tbh. Boudicca - warrior queen - fantastic!

ProudAuntie76 · 21/01/2021 09:52

It was a joke and (hopefully) won’t stick but when I was working with little children I had a colleague who always used to do this and it was really irritating.

So the Martha Moo was a perfect example of the kind of thing she’d do, Haribo instead of Harry, Alfie became “Sir Alfred” (he’s name was just Alfie), Mikey was Michaelangelo.. then some kids became “monkey”, “trouble” etc.

I thought it was really unprofessional and really irked me. It was an especial problem as she was working almost exclusively with children with SEN and physical disabilities so they would become genuinely confused about their name or not like the change and weren’t able to explain in a way she’d listen too. Complaining got none of us anywhere as she was only in the job because of nepotism.

Babdoc · 21/01/2021 09:54

Years ago, I knew a baby called Sybil. Her health visitor always referred to her affectionately as Mrs Fawlty. Grin

Santaiscovidfree · 21/01/2021 09:58

Maybe feel reassured they really have gotten to know your dd!!

Topseyt · 21/01/2021 10:07

I'd be flattered. It is a joke and a compliment. I have called my own children a variety of things over the years and they seem to have survived to reach adulthood.. 🤣

I wouldn't give it any further headspace.

Lucieintheskye · 21/01/2021 10:07

My niece is 'affectionately' called Adolf by her childminder as she's going through a phase of raising her hand as Hitler did. She's a bit of a Boudicca too though...

Pebbledashery · 21/01/2021 10:14

Adolf Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/01/2021 10:18

@Lucieintheskye, has she by any chance been watching the Sound of Music?
My Gdd did this at nursery at not quite 3 - complete with the ‘Heil Hitler!’

Luckily, since she was also endlessly singing S of M songs, staff realised where it had come from and just found it hilarious.
